It is a nice reel for the price paid. You can now find these on the used market, in good condition for a lot less than the original pricing - Thanks for watching - Dennis
Thanks for putting this together. I have this reel and its great. But what I needed to see you didn't show. Which was the how to put back together the spring mechanism in the bail. I was doing light cleaning and oiling of the reel put didn't notice how it came out, so I'm little bit of a tough time making it click in correctly. Anything you can do for me would be appreciated. Thank you in advance
I'm the frustrated owner of a CFT-4000. I bought it new 2 years ago and it caught mostly hundreds of weakfish and flounder and ran like a Swiss watch. It started to get a little stiff so it was time to do the servicing for reasons shown in this video. What I failed to catch when I bought it was side plate screws with malformed heads. And they were overdriven by the factory. I managed to get 2 of the 3 screws out but #3 got chowdered. I am still trying to come up with a way to grind off the screw head without destroying the side plate. Contact with Penn produced a clueless response. Anyone buying a new Penn should inspect the screws carefully before buying. I will never buy another new Penn. (As usual, I regard these videos to be the gold standard.)
That's a good tip. I haven't worked on enough of these to recognize the problem, but I certainly always look at the side plate screws when I am considering the purchase of a used reel. Thanks for pointing this out - Dennis
Chris Schwamb You are right- good call there. The review on J&H says the CFT is an upgrade to the Battle in that it has techno balance. The Conflict came out in 2013 and the Battle 2 came out in 2014.
@@2ndChanceTackle, I have indeed. I am enjoying using a Tsunami SaltX-4000 which was not cheap. It comes with a tool to open it for servicing and has several design advantages over the equivalent Van Staal at half the price. Cheaper than a boat and any aggravation resulting from poor quality control. Keep up the good work, Dennis!
I was watching a video on a high end sealed Shimano and it has an oil port on the side plate and the guy was putting mobile 1 synthetic in his reel like it was a transmission lol have you ever heard of that ?
Of all the Penn Reels, I always wished I had gotten a Penn Conflict. It seemed like a solid reel from Penn.
They are pretty nice, the conflict 2 is such a downgrade.
PhillyJohnny1825 its not much different than penn battle

chuck dumas the gearing was cnc cut. I agree now the battle 3 is better; but you can get an original conflict for 50 bucks used, it’s a good deal.

Nice looking reel
Looks nice and spins nice. I think it is well priced and a value in that class of reel. Thanks for watching - Dennis
Nice video once again Dennis!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching - Stay well - Dennis
For a Chinese Penn this is a decent design. Wonder what the gear metal is? Too modern for me though. Never seen this one before. Great video as usual!
The main gear is cast. In the CFT2 series it's machined from solid stock.
Thanks Chris - I hope you have found some time to get out fishing! Stay well - Dennis

I've heard of it, but do not do it.
Did this reel have no shins on the main gear?
The shims are installed at the factory and there can be 0-3 on the reel based on the side to side play of the main gear - Thanks for asking - Dennis
