it's unfair that safety related tutorial channel like this gained so less attention.

If i was an auto mechanic, THIS is a boss I'd like to work for.

Me too. Wherever I had to work, the boss would never maintain and repair the lifts properly. However, we were stuck working on them anyway. It is amazing that there isn't a death in every single repair shop.

I had to watch this video in 11th grade for mechanics class. We got a kick out of that intro. asbestos was already becoming a rarity in 2001 but then not long after I worked on a pair of rear drum brakes on a 1979 Chevy K-10 and had this video in the back of my mind the entire time I was working on them. I even stopped and got dust mask from the garage. felt silly but I don't regret now.

In Mechanics, they always seem to start off with them talking to someone getting them to sign something... haha.... possibly all set up :P

What about all the garages at home in the US? Brake dust get airbone anyway.

OSHA permits spray bottle, soap, wet towel to wipe down your brakes before service, despite the video saying its not good.

I don't know why break guys work like this because I've never seen any break people that use vacuums to remove brake pads with asbestos or no asbestos for example as you can still buy brake pads made with asbestos in it in 2019. It's crazy that why mechanics don't do this formula because it's the smart thing to do with every brake job

Not sure if they still use Asbestos brakes in trucks anymore. I read that Asbestos is still used in motorcycle brakes so not sure ....

No we dont use the vacuum stuff, we dont even have one in our shop and i work at a well equipped dealership.
Cars and trucks dont use asbestos brakes or clutches anymore so there is no worrying about it

fwddodge22 alot of china and cheap made brakepads still contain Asbestos

I have only seen wet collect systems. Also, just because new brake systems don't have asbestos, that doesn't prevent them from being hazardous. Any dust is potentially deadly. Alternatives to asbestos could also be deadly.

@@fwddodge22 you are very incorrect. Broom up a little pile of shop dust in your auto shop and take it to a lab to get tested. Should be about 40 bucks. Almost without a doubt there will be anywhere from 3-30% asbestos in there.

I don't care what anybody says, asbestos based materials make the best friction materials.

Asbestos is some of the best fireproofing insulation ever made, no one denies that. Doesn’t change 39,000 US deaths per year from Asbestos exposure though.
Fuck Reagan for allowing the leaders of the asbestos industry to be in charge of their own “safety regulations”, and fuck G.W. Bush & Cheney for interfering and blocking a 100% US Asbestos ban 20 years ago. Money over lives every time.

Did anyone notice when the person changing the collection bag wrists were exposed. Not the best PPE practice.
