I like the project, but I like it even more that you are starting a new chapter where there is space for building sculptures like this. We have often talked about what art is. Now we will find out and get to know a whole new side of you! ☺️
Welcome back. This is why I started watching Laura Kamph, this stuff and style. I love the house but I was missing the free thinking maker. Love your stuff.
Beautiful piece of art! I’d suggest a led bulb because the tumbleweed is very flammable and spreads fire often where they are located. Absolutely great idea.
you are fundamentally a movement artist. You express so much with your hands and body. I've missed these sensate videos where you dance with materials, tools and space.
As I watched I realised how much I have missed the slow, quiet, peaceful videos with carefully filmed close-ups of technique. I also love the hectic and humourous energy of the Felix/Simone collaborations but this solo Laura is so good to watch and your first sculpture is whimsical and wonderful. I agree that the rotation speed is too fast and lighting from below would potentially cast better shadows, so I look forward to the refinement of the weed.
In film, the tumbleweed is such a classic representation of a ghost town. No inhabitants, abandoned, extinct - all activity has ended. This is fertile ground for beginning anew, like a phoenix rising out of the ashes. I like this first sculpture very much. :)
I respect you don't allow your ideas to be limited by skillset; I think many people do the opposite. Thinking about the skill aspect of a project or idea only after it is ready for execution can make learning a new skill feel less like an obstruction.
I love “shadows”, so I love it! I look forward to sunset each day streaming through my dogwood pattern lace curtains, creating “wallpaper” on my wall! It’s remarkable how many variations occur. That’s the magic of shadows! 😁😁😁
I think the tumbleweed ball may be a response to all the rushing you've done in the last few years. As you said, a disco ball is excitement, but your tumbleweed ball is the removal of that. It's calm, non-specific clouds on the ceiling to let your thoughts drift as they want to. It's a wonderful way to reconnect more with your creativity. It's beautiful.
Be cool to slow it down - and make it wind powered. So add an arduino with some kind of sensor such that if there is wind (someone blows on it), then it rotates for a little bit, then slowed down and stops. When you blow it starts again. The strength you blow would govern how fast it spins and how long for.
Fun fact, "tumble weeds" are Russian thistles, and despite (and ironically) being now seen as the quintessential signifier of American westerns outside the coyboy himself, they didn't exist in America until well after the genre started, as they're an invasive species. A bit apropos too now.
This sculptural direction is so so good. IMO you've always made sculptures since the old videos but just embracing the sculptural elements of the work is beautiful.
For me, all your projects are some sort of art,the art to make, the art to create.I think your projects haven't changed, but you believe in yourselves much more that you are a crafty artist. Love the Tumblelight!❤
When I was starting out making "how to" videos were so boring. Your videos are full of tips and processes without spoon feeding. The extra layer of critique is super cool! ❤
Wow! That find was a gift to you. The fact that you recognized it and rescued it is half the battle. Keep the faith, you will "find" the peace you seek on the road.
YES YES THIS IS IT. YOUR CALLING. MORE OF THIS LAURA! Love everything you make but have been thinking, just wait until she gets fully settled. YOU are making such BEAUTY. Can we see the light throw shadow on a wall? Some glam shots for each project would be an amazing compilation video for the exhibition for those who can't make it. Again, watch every one of your videos and rooting for the beauty you create!
It's funny seeing people excited about tumbleweeds. As a child I remember spending many hours cleaning up thousands of them from our land. Nuisance. But now I live in a wetlands environment where tumbleweeds would be a foreign wonder, so I appreciate the excitement over them now!
I didn’t think I could love you any more than I already did - you are such an inspiring human being. Thank you for taking the leap and doing this work AND letting us go along and witness your process!❤
I’m 83. When I was 5, we lived in our first house, in Billings, Montana. Tumbleweeds were great fun for us; there were a lot of them, and we chased them as they tumbled past. We built forts out of them.
Laura, I have loved pretty much all lof your content to date but I really think you have taken this to another level. The subject matter is interesting, the videography is exemplary, the soundtrack brilliant. Your thoughts and musings are wonderful to hear. If this is to be your 'new direction' then I am 100% here for it. That was a wonderful episode. x
The new and evolved old Laura! ❤ Love how you pick up the editing techniques of your old vlogs before you ever spoke to us and combine that with the usual face-to-screen explanation and interaction with us. A return to the old and yet so much more professional (your new expensive tools add to the quality-vibe) but still down-to-earth, very likeable and centred Laura. Brilliant close-ups by the way. Really a work of art. The video AND your desert-disco-weed! Love from the Ruhrpott to LA!
This new journey of yours really resonates with Adam Savage's ethos that making things is only 50% about making things, the other half is story telling. I'm really excited to see and hear more about your sculptures. Also, a small suggestion. When it comes to controlling the speed of the motor, I recently came across these great, pre soldered, low voltage PVM speed controllers that you can buy with a control dial already installed. They're very compact so I'd highly recommend them for this project! Keep up the great work, you're inspiring my wife and I with every video ❤
I think it would be really cool to have video incorporated into your exhibition when the time comes. It’ll be fab to see the finished pieces but the process is so impactful too it would be great to see both together
I admire that you can take something from nothing and in turn make it into art. I design interiors but the execution is not in my control. I love the explanation and yes like a waterfall creates calmness this to also brings that same calmness.
Using a tumble weed to make something brought back some childhood memories. I grew up in San Diego, where it doesn't snow at Christmas. So my father would take a 2 x 4, cut the end into a point and pound it into the ground in front of the house. We would then stack 3 tumble weeds in graduated sizes, spray it with Christmas tree flocking, add a hat, scarf, etc. and we would have a snowman.
....As a So. Ca. girl...I concur! I grew up in H.B. when we first moved there...fields were everywhere. And jack rabbits!!!! I LoVED watching both...jack rabbits runnin' .... tumbleweeds be tumblin' ....⛄️
You are my number 1-5 favorite on the internet and you give so much inspiration. I hope you handle the move from Germany to the "big country" well and that you and your wife and child will have a wonderful life. And I will happily follow you along.
I love the format of the video. The rhythm, the lighting, slower pace, shallow depth of field. And the sculpture! So good. It reminds of all the wood pieces I've collected over the years. Still waiting to become something else. Your transformation towards art gives me a much needed boost. All the best.
I miss the old vids, where you created amazing things with tools at hand. You have great ability and make wonderful things with the professional woodworking tools. Most of us create with what we have. Be aware that the $$ and tools make huge impact on outcome
When I started watching your videos long ago... This was the asthetic of your videos Beautiful shots focused on the design and build process accompanied by wonderful chill background music I do have to say that I love your most recent content ( house, Felix at the camera, etc) and I would definitely love to see more of that But this " back to basics" certainly feels good!!! Thank you
What a cool idea! One could make it spin so slow that one could tell the time, like the sun and shadows? Maybe not possible.... but it could be a cool idea. I would try if I had a shop of my own. ❤ Happy to be here watching! 🤩
Well... i don't know how to explain too but, what i know for sure is that you're the best. Thanks for share your "world", it makes mine easier for a few minutes. Thank you once again Super Laura☺️
When I lived in Vegas, we used a Tumbleweed as a Christmas tree. I worked out great, and even looked lovely. Low budget, and eco friendly LOL! I love your videos. Watching you tackle a concept and seeing where it leads you is always an amazing journey!
I just love your new direction and knew there would be beautiful wood, movement and electricity involved! You are just a master creative and I love your name because I too have a Laura. 🌸
I find you so inspiring, Laura and everything about this sculpture has meaning and depth and your heart signature all over it - love it and love you ❤ You are a disco ball and this is your beautiful shadow side coming into the light 😊
This was a treat to watch. The fact that I got to see your process, and listen to the soothing music was a great combo. I love your functional and aesthetic choices. Excited to see what comes next
I really love your new setup. The frame when you speak to camera is really GREAT. 💚💚 The tumbleweed idea looks awesome. Can't wait to see it finished with the slower engine, different lights, etc... Best wishes in this new path, looks like you're doing great. Good luck!! 😉
So good to see you back in your happy place Laura. As you last episode, you have been lost for so long, today I saw you genuinely smile again. Keep living the dream.
It's awesome and super poetic. Love this idea of the calm it creates. It reminds me of lamps we had as children with images projected to the wall, turning around to help falling asleep.
Loving the relaxed introspective style. From a tech perspective a stepper motor would allow you to go really slowly. I have been looking at them for drama props but not had a use case yet.
Hi Laura, I love this new/old direction of your journey and your quirky, thoughtful, beautiful projects. Love this new series. Love seeing the creative process from thought to execution to problem solving to explanation to fruition! Looking forward to seeing your progress as an emerging LA artist :)
Love the addition of the 'why' segment. Such a cool contrast to the disco ball idea! I also like that the tumbleweed can keep on tumbling (even as a sculpture) 😃
I think you should make some "Temporary Solution" custom printed duct tape. It would sell millions and be appropriate in almost every situation requiring duct tape.
All through the "future of this channel" and this video, I was thinking...i hope she decides to keep the explanation and thought process pieces, as they were fast becoming my favourite parts, and then BOOM, pt. 3, an explanation / insight component. yay. Good luck Laura, and thanks for the incredible videos.
I love seeing the whole process, from conception through work in progress and the final (ish) piece of art. It makes me feel like I have some connection to this person through their creative process. Thank you.
Your words in the beginning were beautiful, meaningful and powerful, I especially love this editing and I loved that you included clips of you tidying up and cleaning, too. Thanks Laura!
The explanation part is the hardest for me. Back in college in a 3D art class (sculpture, wire work, etc.) we were working when my professor walks up to me and asks "Where are you going with this?" I was just kind of riffing, doing things that looked good to me. So I replied honestly "I don't know yet." He laughed and said "You should know by now." and walked away.
I lilke it! 😊😊😊
Great video Laura! I agree completely with your assessment of your work. It is quite beautiful. A tumble weed has history ... It has a life, if you will, before we see it. We don't know what that is. Perhaps, if we sit in it's presence for long enough and quietly enough, it will tell us.
WOW…..isn’t it amazing what you can accomplish when you have the right tools and experience using them…..I believe that the tools are what makes us all able to achieve great things……you and your art are amazing and inspiring to me and many more…Thank you so very much for sharing your art, time and energy with us all
Man this reminds me so much of those early projects. You and that jewellers vise and a healthy dose of brilliant creativity. What a journey it’s been :) lovely work
I love your aesthetic so much ! it's clean and smooth, and yet still shows the imperfection that makes a material (metal, wood) so beautiful, and I love the "industrial" looks, with bits and things, mitch match of cool things that you make harmonize
I love tumbleweeds, myself. To me they represent us, becoming uprooted as time moves us, eventually drifting us through life, whithering as we are constantly pronged by life's constant thorns..That sculpture is beautiful, as I watched it turn after being mounted, the light shining & reflecting, I visualize it being rooted beneath, the light shining and it turning in glee because it is once again rooted and not drifting aimlessly across that dry, barren desert of life....
I like the project, but I like it even more that you are starting a new chapter where there is space for building sculptures like this. We have often talked about what art is. Now we will find out and get to know a whole new side of you! ☺️
Felix!!!!!❤
Welcome back. This is why I started watching Laura Kamph, this stuff and style. I love the house but I was missing the free thinking maker. Love your stuff.
Love the idea of the tumbleweed being the shadow opposite of a reflective disco ball. Very cool.
Disco ball = party, noise, happening. Tumbleweed = emptiness, silence, lack of happening.
Love it!
I wonder if more directed light sources would produce starker shadows. Really leaning into "anti-mirror" properties, could it be painted matte black?
I'm glad we got the shot of the ceiling with the shadows from the tumbleweed.
What an ingenious idea! Inspiration comes from many things that are ordinary. Great sculpture. Thank you.
Thank you! I was missing your maker videos so much, with calligraphed notes on pink tape, nice music, and these wonderful little ideas. Laura is back!
I have tumble weeds ,, a very smart plant

Yep, cheap packing material for the crates the Russian immigrants (& those from satellite communities) brought with them from the motherlands. 😊
There are a number of plant species that can form tumble weeds.
Tumbleweeds are a fascinating plant, CGP Grey did a video on them once
I was worried about her bringing the tumbleweed home and having the seeds drop. Glad to see someone pointing out this is an invasive species.
I really enjoyed this Project and I Hope Everything goes to Plan for you.
This sculptural direction is so so good. IMO you've always made sculptures since the old videos but just embracing the sculptural elements of the work is beautiful.
Really love this. The mix of materials. Soft and hard. Rough and refined. Movement. Light. Wonderful.
For me, all your projects are some sort of art,the art to make, the art to create.I think your projects haven't changed, but you believe in yourselves much more that you are a crafty artist. Love the Tumblelight!❤

The Tape is back!!! Perfect Sunday eve bit of calm.
I’m 83. When I was 5, we lived in our first house, in Billings, Montana. Tumbleweeds were great fun for us; there were a lot of them, and we chased them as they tumbled past. We built forts out of them.

So excited for this return to the art of making beautiful things purely for the thrill of it.
The new and evolved old Laura! ❤ Love how you pick up the editing techniques of your old vlogs before you ever spoke to us and combine that with the usual face-to-screen explanation and interaction with us. I think it would be really cool to have video incorporated into your exhibition when the time comes. It’ll be fab to see the finished pieces but the process is so impactful too it would be great to see both together
This !!! Reading a title card is so "dry", versus hearing the author breathe the work into being !
I admire that you can take something from nothing and in turn make it into art.
I design interiors but the execution is not in my control.
I love the explanation and yes like a waterfall creates calmness this to also brings that same calmness.
Love the "temporary solution" pink tape
Yeah that made me laugh.
That was a wonderful journey for a build. Simple, not over-explained, not to mention calming. Thank you for sharing that tumbleweed with us!

So simple, yet the result is very creative and elegant. You are an inspiration.
So glad to see the creative Laura again. It’s the reason I started following you years ago. Thank you
I love you going back to your roots of no dialog, just creativity.
I love the format of the video. The rhythm, the lighting, slower pace, shallow depth of field. And the sculpture! So good. It reminds of all the wood pieces I've collected over the years. Thank you
What a wonderful, calming video. I love the piece, uniting two raw natural pieces of nature together.
4:32 Can I just say, seeing you use the mortising tool,
The execution is 💯 %. Like everything you do. This IS a work of art. I love your imagination.❤
What a cool idea! One could make it spin so slow that one could tell the time, like the sun and shadows? Maybe not possible.... but it could be a cool idea. I would try if I had a shop of my own. ❤ Happy to be here watching! 🤩
Love the way you work, think and execute! Thank you! It’s pleasure to watch you create 😊
Well... i don't know how to explain too but, what i know for sure is that you're the best. Thanks for share your "world", it makes mine easier for a few minutes. Thank you once again Super Laura☺️

You don't need to worry about the exhibition being unsuccessful. This is a beautiful work of art.
I just love your new direction and knew there would be beautiful wood, movement and electricity involved! You are just a master creative and I love your name because I too have a Laura. 🌸
This is taking one step back to take two steps forward. I love the evolution of your channel ❤
Wonderful video explaining why we need to trust the creative process!
Love the new video.🎉
Thanks!!
That's something unique! It will definitely start some conversations! It brings joy and excitement!
Great to see you in your element and having fun after the struggles with the house ❤ You're doing great Laura have fun with it 👏👏
I find you so inspiring, Laura and everything about this sculpture has meaning and depth and your heart signature all over it - love it and love you ❤ You are a disco ball and this is your beautiful shadow side coming into the light 😊
Yep I love this video. I would watch some of the house videos , but I would never watch one in full. This is why I started watching your videos.
This was a treat to watch. The fact that I got to see your process, and listen to the soothing music was a great combo. I love your functional and aesthetic choices. Excited to see what comes next
I saw my first tumbleweed this year in Canada. I did the same thing... I kicked it with epic sound effects! Have a wonderful August, Laura.
I really love your new setup. The frame when you speak to camera is really GREAT. 💚💚
The tumbleweed idea looks awesome.
I LOVE watching your creative brain work. And I love seeing the tape “captions” again. ❤
Now Smudo wants his dog house! Very cool sculpture. I'm glad you are settling into your new life.
This was so fun to watch. I love watching the process in real time. And the return to the self record vibes. It works very well with this video ❤
Something about this project hit my brain in exactly the right way. I love it
Best feedback! Thanks!
Hi Laura, I love this new/old direction of your journey and your quirky, thoughtful, beautiful projects. Also, I am very happy that you are back to doing your own cinematography, lighting, editing, even you choice of music ... your video making is just superb. I missed that. I am so looking forward to whatever you will come up with! Take care!
One of the coolest pieces I’ve seen in my life!
I do like the idea of an "inverse" disco ball. I also like the idea of art that isn't static, that has motion, that interacts with its environment. That's why I like Tim Hunkin's art, usually it involves some kind of motion or interactivity. Beautiful project Laura
Great execution
My wife and I noticed while watching this one last night, that it felt like an older video. Builds without explanation over music. Absolutely loved it. When's the exhibit? We want to go already :)
This is so beautiful, I loved watching it being made. It made me feel weirdly emotional
I love the chill of this video. ❤ Thank you for walking through your phases! Stay hydrated! 😄
It's fantastic to understand why you made a thing and what you like about it too🎉
Ive missed these videos so much, such original ideas with all the quirks 😍😍
All through the "future of this channel" and this video, I was thinking...i hope she decides to keep the explanation and thought process pieces, as they were fast becoming my favourite parts, and then BOOM, pt. 3, an explanation / insight component. yay. Good luck Laura, and thanks for the incredible videos.
I love seeing the whole process, from conception through work in progress and the final (ish) piece of art. It makes me feel like I have some connection to this person through their creative process. Thank you.
I fall in love with Laura when she was building a door for the tiny house years ago , and now i like the new Laura also
Your words in the beginning were beautiful, meaningful and powerful, I especially love this editing and I loved that you included clips of you tidying up and cleaning, too.
This is the ONLY reason I am glad I didn't go to Art School !?
A teacher can SO easily puncture a young artist !
So satisfying to watch and therapeutic for me❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ein original Wüstenroller! 🌀Liebe Laura, ich kann deine Begeisterung absolut verstehen! Ich war auch ganz hin und weg als ich feststellte, dass es die Dinger wirklich gibt. Awesome! Can’t wait to see next step of this sculpture 😎
I loved this.
The style of the filming, the reverse disco ball effect of the tumbleweed, just so enjoyed this.
This is so incredibly beautiful! I'm so excited for more of your work.
absolutely LOVED it.. yay, arts and crafts Laura styling time yay
you totally rock girl x looking forwards to the next sculpture x
WOW…..isn’t it amazing what you can accomplish when you have the right tools and experience using them…..I believe that the tools are what makes us all able to achieve great things……you and your art are amazing and inspiring to me and many more…Thank you so very much for sharing your art, time and energy with us all
You are so right. The tools enable us to do beautiful things ❤️
Man this reminds me so much of those early projects. You and that jewellers vise and a healthy dose of brilliant creativity. What a journey it’s been :) lovely work
Love the silent shadows, so relaxing, visually calming.
I love your aesthetic so much ! it's clean and smooth, and yet still shows the imperfection that makes a material (metal, wood) so beautiful, and I love the "industrial" looks, with bits and things, mitch match of cool things that you make harmonize
It is beautiful. I actually thought you were going to set it into resin. Look forward to seeing your wonderful creations!
