How to BUILD a SINGLE-SPEED BIKE in ABOUT AN HOUR!

- And if you use a nice bike and better parts instead of a rusty old Peugeot and a chain from a garage door opener, your single-speed might actually be rideable.
I used mostly basic hand tools in this video, except for these:
Park Tool chain tool: amzn.to/2NWQXxY
Park Tool chain whip: amzn.to/2mqvWiJ
Park Tool 8/9/10mm wrench: amzn.to/2O2TeaP
I also used the Canon G7X, which is a nice li'l point-and-shoot with a great wind filter: amzn.to/2mrkbbL
Recorded on 7/18/2018 and honestly I can't believe I got it done without running out of daylight.
the level of resourcefullness on this video- incredible. He took oil FROM THE DIPSTICK OF HIS CAR lmao.
i love how different this video is to all the other bike videos that tell you, you need to be super exact and delicate with everything lol
because it's a shit tutorial on how to downgrade an ok old beater(it would be after some maintenance, all it probably needed was new cables cassette chain and cleaned up rims) into an unsafe turd with the worst handlebars i've ever seen with only 1 brake
@@Goriaas what a fun sponge you are
Simpler than all of this is shortening your chain to your desired gear pairing and don't ever try shifting it again. Voila, it's a one-speed in around ten minutes. Perfect for flatlands, very flat lands. You're welcome.
Really glad I came across this video as I didn't know you could just take a gear off your existing cassette. Can't wait to convert mine now I just need the chain whip!
ayo SPVIDS! whats yup G!
I like how this guy does stuff
Amazing just like my bike, I went one step less and left all my gears on when I realised I had a free hub
a proof of concept
This is amazing. The oil from the dipstick killed me. I want to build a bike like this. Something I don't care about being left outside or stolen.
this was entertaining on so many levels
A singlespeed that's not fixed should have a rear brake but still gj
Killerkätzchen O.o not tru
Front brake will do
@@wutangcatclan you are right front brake > rear brake
Awesome video! It showed me how easily I can make this little dream come true without spending a lot of money! All the other videos I‘ve seen are way more complicated.. Great job! (You yould have cleaned some of that rust😉)
Hey, nothing wrong with breathing new life into an old frame. Bikes are for fun and going places. So long as it does these things? Then it is a 'proper' bike.
Not nearly so extreme example: My shifter cable broke. I can't exactly order a spare right now. So I pull the freewheel apart, cut chain to length, and with much swearing and crying over getting the alignment wrong repetedly? I'm rocking a single speed until my situation changes. I could've just jammed the deraileur into a specific gear through the H screw, but like. 'hey I'm not gonna do this by halves.'
Amazing how well the spacers from the freewheel itself worked. Granted I also had to make a spacer BEHIND the freewheel, but I have fence on the metal pile that's not doinganything so cut, shape, use bench vice to straighten it out, screw thigns back together after making sure the sizing is right. All chain drops. GONE. I'm out of shape and it's a 30lbs bike so not flinging it around all willy nilly, but I'm having a grand time.
Hey great video, this is actually the way I convert my vintage freewheel bikes. It's free and actually strong. I been riding mine for a while.
Better then the China 19$ kit lol
How did it work out? Been thinking of doing this to my bike lol
@@unabashedlyluckynerd7148 It's perfectly fine honestly
i was shocked of the 5 speed cogs to one speed cogs
just like WOW NOW I WONT SPEND ON A SINGLE SPEED
Or just not use the derailer lol
I will do this with a white Peugeot i found - bloody awesome 🤠
"and now that it's all the way off, I probably shouldn't have taken it off." LOL
presentation was really great, organic..love victory shot..with chain...more, more!
nice job, I can dig it
Good tip there - I never see bikes get thrown away but dumped garage doors and their mechanisms are all over the place!
Love the Bike I'd ride it daily once I fixed the brakes of course.
I did something similar with a Huffy ULTIMA my son and I found in a tree line behind Grandma's house.... The rims were trash so I put a donor set from a mtn. bike with a single speed freewheel.... I didn't put brakes back on mine bc that's for amateurs lol I was able to squeeze 26×2.0 tires on it but I did have to coldset the rear of the frame
I really liked this video!
the "PooSho" 😂😂
sorry but as an European I can't hold my laughs at you keeping on mispronouncing that word
You know I did this yesterday with the help of a bike mechanic. Donor bike was an old Raleigh Marathon 502 and fun fact it only took my 6 hours to end up on my ass in the street.
Lmao
this guy is hilarious
With love we'll find a way, just give it time
I love your videos! Keep up the good work!!!
That was hilarious and 'inspiring'.
Excellent video. 🤣🤣
Nice front break
I built a bike like that and it was fine.
this video was awesome!
The only things that should have been kept on that bike, are the handle bars and frame set. Get that it's a concept vid and just showing the simplicity of it, same idea, but on a more road worthy bike perhaps
Now thats pretty sketchy, but I like it:)
I like this bike.
Subscribed..just because ur a funny guy
never seen a poojoe like it
Nice work!!
We can produce awesome bicycle with your brand
Dang Dude….get a friggin tripod!!!!
Scary !
I thought Fixed Gear Gallery died out a lot, lot earlier than 2018.
You must be short... why would you leave the spoke protector on the rear hub???
How do you let a bike get this rusty
I've built more than one bike like this... for wheelies
Awesome !
Love a recycled single speed bike
the plastic protection /o\
2:57 DAFUQ?
Damn this thing is rough
What is the tool called you used to cut the bars into horns?
looks like a pipe cutter.
pipe cutter
Pipe cutter
does you even need remove all gears
no but it might change gear by itself when you hit bumps
Weight reduction
The shifter don't work so may as well
It will be good when there is no rust
i would have run back brakes instead of front
Why? Front has more stopping power
@Minions Minions thats why you practice to not grab a hand full of brakes
Minions Minions yh if u press it hard and a noob
Free wheel maillard normandy. You have to be more respectful with a bike like this... wow
Why not build or ride a single speed? I did and have no problems. I rather have a rear brake instead of a front brake only.
I plan to 3d print a fixie bike :) on my super light road bike I built from scratch (including wheels, I hate when people say from scratch and it not wheels too) use both brakes, mountain bike I stop from 20mph to full stop in less than 2 metres and I only use front brake, on fixie for on road front brake is law, and as seeing you said rear brake I can say I prefer front as tried just rear and the back slides out and nearly threw me off
Front has more stopping power....
1:24 - lol)))
I think its 5 pounds lighter
You need rear brake on single speed, brah; only fixed gears get a free pass on a rear brake because you can stop the rear wheel via the cranks. Otherwise, you're giving plod a reason to stop you and check all your particulars while you just want to be out rolling around getting it done.
Put an engine on it
Poojoe?
I'd ride it
Top markotop
u ruined a perfectly good tech 77 lever. sad.
I like the simplicity of the video but I just can't agree with ruining the classic bike this way. Maybe I'm just one of those purist guys who preach about the originality of the things but this Peugeot deserved true restoration. It was too nice to be chopped like that
poo-jo?
Why can't any American pronounce anything correctly?
haha - so ghetto!
Converting it to a single speed is already dumb but that was the point of the video i guess.
But downgrading the perfectly usable handlebars and brakes into the mess you created(super narrow unsafe shit bars with ONE brake) with zero benefits of the old version is just plain terrible
Nothing wrong with those bars. Cutting a bit off does not compremise what is a static part of the bike. If a bike is going to have a single brake, the front is best.
@@ItsDaJax Bull horn bars are generally wider than drops, having bars that you can only ride on the narrow parts of the tops will give you terrible balance.
I agree with someone above, it's better to just flip the bars upside down and cut them just before the big bend of the drops to make some longer bull horns if you want them, but I would have personally just kept the drops and the original brake levers.
narrow ? it had the same width as before :D
looks like the river loved it more than any of the owners
Just found this 4yr old video- a.) I hope you have gone to your local Goodwill and gotten a tripod for $6.
B.) I recently bought a top tier 1977 Panasonic Road bike in 100% original condition (original tires and tubes even) and nothing beyond surface rust.
*You reckon I should turn into a single speed or buff to its original teal blue and yellow glory?
