Many years ago I ruined my recorder playing with the heavy and strong tongue that I developed on playing the trumpet. Recently I begin to worship the light tonging which is so essential for the recorder and am happy that I once had that ability. You never completely forget these things…

Thank you, I’m a trombone player and I’ve been stuck tonguing at half what people around me can, this was the first thing I saw that actually works.

Tom, I've had a poor single tongue for over five decades of trumpet playing. Thank you for this lesson. Over lockdown I've managed to get from crotchet = 80 to around crotchet = 102 - still super slow though. I can't articulate the syllable any quicker without the trumpet. Thank you anyway.

Challenge accepted! I haven’t thought about or worked on fast and clean single tonguing in a long time.
Double tonguing can become almost a crutch, vs an additional technique.

Great video! Obviously There‘s not a ‘Correct’ way of tonguing, but a lot of students (including me) were taught to use the tip and place it Where the top of the teeth meet the gums, and tongue like that. Another way that's being taught is by tonguing the way you say “tee” or “tu” which places/rests the tip of the tongue on the bottom teeth. Which way do you tongue?

Some also refer to the second way of tonguing as “dorsal” or “anchor” tonguing

Excellent instruction and resource..Quick question. Is the top (Cup) section of your mouthpiece slighly offset or is it just an optical illusion ?

Are you using a G? I find as I go down in my scales my tongue gets slower. Shouldn't I be practicing tonguing over my full range?

Thanks, Tom! This is truly excellent teaching. Just a question - are you consciously inhaling through the horn? Or am I missing something? I thought it could be a Caruso thing (not moving the chops position), but would love any clarification. Thanks again!
