Hi I’m back and I can now proudly say I got 173/180 (a level 9) in my edexcel IGCSE CS exam and I can’t thank you enough !!!!! You’re a great teacher!!!!!!
Ketch Urself for pseudocode the only way to really get better is practice. However, there is not enough time for that before the paper 1 exam, so I would just focus on theory if I were you. You will get more marks that way. After paper 1 just do some past papers and try the pseudocode questions.
if you did last year's paper, there was a block question, and a pseudocode question at the end, both involved subroutines, and i achieved few marks. But, after going through the block question it was straightforward.
@@MJL1912 Ngl, the paper was hard but because of the two algorithm questions at the end, the 6 marker, and 11 marker, it even killed the people who get grade 9s in paper 1
@@cait3 NGl, he is pretty good, but you can't get top marks unless you practice pseudocode, and trace tables, he can't teach you that, that isn' t theory
Why is it that the rectangles were used for input and output on the flowchart at 1:35? I'm so confused! Whenever I'm looking for flowchart examples to help me they're always so contradictory! Help! I've got a mock exam tomorrow and am not good with algorithms...
Yeah, there's no set 'syntax' for flowcharts hence there are many variants, and there are hundreds of symbols for really specific things. I'd stick to the 4 I introduce in the flowcharts video, but it's not worth worrying about
To find the midpoint, dont you have to take the number of items in the list, add one then divide it by 2. So if there are 6 items its (6+1)/2 which is 3.5 which rounds up to the 4th value. So with this binary search equation, when there's 4 values left, wouldn't the middle value be 3, meaning you've found 6 then? :)) so sorry just wanna get dem marks on thursday
Either method is fine - this selection is just an implementational detail which doesn't actually matter*, we're just focussed on the algorithm's operation at this point *it does, but not at GCSE level :)
Hi thank you so much for the video,my small question do we need to study the flowchart and python code for the sorting and searching algorithms for the paper 2 🤔
YES literally, looking back on the spec now like there isn't even THATTT much to learn \_(o.o)_/ was so much more scared for that exam than i was for this one but i think its the other way round now x(
is pseudocode does the placement of the else or any other character matter, meaning do i have to put spaces(or press tab) like i would do when writing a program?
Hello, does anyone recommend any webinars, websites, UA-cam channels, etc. so that I can learn and practice computer science for my GCSEs? Because I have missed a few weeks of year 10 computer science and I need to catch up.
For the binary search when the list was 4 numbers, and the answer was on the right you said that you won't pick the number on the right to not get the answer right away, but it would not matter because in a binary search if the numbers are even, you divide it by two and use the number on the left.
You just need to be consistent - so when you get no true middle number, keep picking either the left of middle, or right of middle. If one means you answer the question quicker, then (in an exam), go for that one
thanks for creating this videos, it would really help for when i go to university. However i want to ask if you have any problem solving videos that you show how to think to solve a problem.
@Computer Science Tutor In my revision guide it says that they will not ask any algorithm based questions on this only test the theory. So do we need to learn the code
I hope so, the current videos won’t cover everything but will address the foundations you need. I’ll make a playlist when I get a minute, but there’s a generic GCSE playlist that includes all the vids, for now

4:35 you dont need a found variable. Theres somehting called "break" in python which ends an if statement if a condition is met. My linear search program works just fine with it and is more efficient since i dont need to add more lines of code for that variable
2:45 so would that mean that there is no set code for psuedocode, i can write whatever as long as its easy to understand and written in a code form? I've been a bit careful with pseudocode and im not really sure whether there is a set syntax or not. if yes, is this the same with flowchart
Exactly - there is no set syntax. There are those 3 set flowchart symbols, but you kind of write pseudocode within each box. I'd suggest you watch this video (ua-cam.com/video/kaG4xeLqeH0/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ComputerScienceTutor) where I talk about it a lot more
If it asks me to write pseudo code in an exam do I have to know how to use actual pseudo code or can I just write it in a familiar programming language such as Python?
