  • A/C Condenser fins become damaged over time. Each time someome bumps into the unit or scrapes it with a lawn mower the fins can be pertially crushed and lay over. This can completely restrict the flow of air through that section of coils resulting in longer compresser run times and warmer air being distributed throughout the house. I have 3 A/C units and purchased a $20 repair tool kit from Amazon. The kit includes various combs and brushes and I learned through trial and error which tools work best on the first 2 units. This video shows the 3rd unit being repaired and cleaned with A/C condenser Fin Cleaner. The results were great, all my A/C's are putting out colder air into the house (5-10 degrees F) and run times are greatly reduced lowering my electric bill as well.

I did mine a couple of days ago, had a little trouble with straightening some fins, I wasn't using soapy water, I'll try that next time. thanks for the tips!

Yeah, my house is 25 years old and the A/C units appear to be the original ones installed. It gets hot here in Vegas, this should lower my electric bill a bit in the summer! Thanks

Any idea on what causes the mineralization?

I think it is condensation in the winter when the temperature drops. If the fins are partially collapsed the gap is greatly reduced and the condensation traps dirt and dust and leaves a residue behind. Over time it completely blocks the flow of air.
