The weight of the world
is love.
Under the burden
of solitude,
under the burden
of dissatisfaction
the weight,
the weight we carry
is love.
Who can deny?
In dreams
it touches
the body,
in thought
constructs
a miracle,
in imagination
anguishes
till born
in human--
looks out of the heart
burning with purity--
for the burden of life
is love,
but we carry the weight
wearily,
and so must rest
in the arms of love
at last,
must rest in the arms
of love.
No rest
without love,
no sleep
without dreams
of love--
be mad or chill
obsessed with angels
or machines,
the final wish
is love
--cannot be bitter,
cannot deny,
cannot withhold
if denied:
the weight is too heavy
--must give
for no return
as thought
is given
in solitude
in all the excellence
of its excess.
The warm bodies
shine together
in the darkness,
the hand moves
to the center
of the flesh,
the skin trembles
in happiness
and the soul comes
joyful to the eye--
yes, yes,
that's what
I wanted,
I always wanted,
I always wanted,
to return
to the body
where I was born.
This is one of Ginsberg's best poems, in my humble opinion. Thanks for posting.
I get excited when I see an update from your channel.
Thank you very, very much. This is one of my favourite Ginsberg's poems. Thanks for another beautiful reading.
Morgan Freeman and Tom O'Bedlam can literally make a grocery list interesting and deep.
brilliantly read! Thank you for creating this recording.
This poem is beautiful! Ginsberg has never been one of my favourites, but I think that that may change now. Your readings are excellent, sir! I especially loved your renditions of The Hollow Men, The Waste Land, & The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock. Eliot is by far my favourite poet. Superb work, & brilliant name of Tom O'Bedlam!

:)
Sir, your voice is so...dreamy and makes me feels safe, like home after a hard day. I am dreaming for about...5 years that I will find an audiobook with your voice making me wish it never ends. I would like to know if u have an email adress where I can contact you. Thank you for doing this.
Right-O another SpokenVerse video! And a poem by Ginsberg no less!
You have a voice which touch the bottom of the soul! Thanx for u'r work, and thanks a bunch for beat poetry
What a lovely poem, and what an excellent performance by you, Sir O'Bedlam!
Powerful voice and touching
When everything else - angels and machines - is stripped away we are left with one thing, love. Many thanks for the message, movingly spoken. (I also like your other reading from Ginsberg, A Supermarket in California.)
Happy to see you back!
Powerful. I only wish you had read it out with a bit more conviction towards the end, but I suppose you would imagine him declining throughout the poem until he ends in some sort of melancholy? I feel as though the last few lines are some sort exasperated last effort to reach for air and breathe. If I had such a fitting voice such as yours I would've risen nearing the end, making sure the last few lines were as heartfelt as I imagine Ginsberg wishing they would be. :)
Great video as always.
+pessimistpojken I think Ginsberg himself reads it in the way you describe - here he is: ua-cam.com/video/CRTdAIlMdT8/v-deo.html
Wonderful poem and you read it brilliantly....
I was just thinking of your channel the other day and how it would be great to hear you read Truth by Stephen Crane.
It's good to hear you again
It's been a long time! Welcome back =D
Ô this is pure bliss
Your voice is a miracle 🥰🥺🥺🤍🪐
So beautiful (sighs)
Man you are doing great
You're back!
cool... I might subscribe
Another great reading! I'm still curious to know how I could work with you on an upcoming short film I'm making. How can I hire you to read a text to be used as narration for it?
welcome back
Are you ever coming back? It's been a while since the last update. I, for one, would like to hear something new from you. Thanks for the readings.
the voice
Ah, I have missed you, old friend (I, formerly known as sonofwalt), but I see it's been seven months since. I hope you are well.
Hello! I love your chanel, and I love Tom O'bedlam voice, I am working in a personal project, could you help me to contact with Tom? Thanks!
This is a red letter day.
I think the scrolling text is distracting. The fade between lines and artwork in your previous readings is more engaging.
