ALCHEMY -BEAUTIFUL FARMHOUSE ON A SLOPING LAND
Tucked away from the little town of Pambanar, a high range in the state of Kerala in South India is the Farm House designed by Ar. Jobin Joseph Abraham for client Mr. Sabu Thomas. The challenge was to build a shelter that perfectly blends with the ecosystem around, whilst ensuring that the natural spring that flows through the heart of the land remains untouched. Surrounded by a valley of tea estates and woods, the House is a Sanctuary of Tranquillity where the only sounds one can hear are that of birds, water, and wind.
GENERATIVE PROCESS OF THE HOUSE MATERIAL ASSEMBLY
    1. The roofing tiles used are Decra heritage tiles which are weatherproof, waterproof, and fire-resistant. The panel is pressure formed from steel with an advanced coating system.
    2. Locally available wood was used. Pinewood for paneling and railings. Acacia Mangium wood was used for joineries. Its color and texture enhances the beauty of the structure
    3. Rubble masonry is used for some parts of the outer wall. This is in which broken stone of irregular size and shape is used in a good choice by masons to build the walls or to fill a wall
    4. 6mm plain glass is used for all the windows and doors. It has a low R-value.It gives a perfect view of the flowing stream and the scenic beauty outside. It also helps to bring in the natural light
    5. Dia 20 Tor bar is installed at depth of 500 mm using Hilti HIT RE 500 chemical anchor with isolated footing which bears the whole load of the structure
The most rugged and unproductive section of the contour was used to create the main Structure. This region contained a strong rocky base where 50% of the foundation is. The rest foundation is 3m high pillar supported by Hilti Joints drilled into the Earth to resemble the trunk of the coffee tree. This pillar supports the cantilevered balcony off the bottom floor to overlook the water feature. The rest of the structure was fabricated in steel, wood, and bricks. The steel posts resemble the tree branches that spread to either side
