From someone who is interested in this lifestyle but currently has no RV experience, these types of videos are extremely helpful to understand how things work. So many little tidbits of information that RVers take for granted that I would not have thought of... Thanks Cass for posting another good video. (Unsolicited idea for a future video...show the simple act of getting gas...how to position the rig, where to go, navigating through small gas stations, etc. This makes me nervous thinking about doing this for the first time)
Great video idea Drew! That's one of those items I think about every time I drive into a gas station, but never thought of filming. It's also a lot easier for a small RV like myself to navigate than a larger rig.
I’m not a handyman or mechanically inclined. I suffer from anxiety when things don’t work or need repair. Is this airstream model as simple to operate and maintain as your video illustrates? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Great info today. Lots of opportunity to make serious mistakes when hooking up and this was a solid walk through on how it should be done. Good call letting the Dewalt do the work to raise the rear jacks too. The Basecamp is just awesome and I get the itch to go check one out every time you post! Thanks for sharing.
I just found your UA-cam channel yesterday and I have learned so much from you. It’s nice finding another female who travels alone, which I plan to do in the near future. Thank you so much for sharing all of your experiences.
Thank you for doing this video. We have a 2018 Basecamp that we have travelled with for two years and almost 20,000 miles and I actually learned something new that I didn't know. Please do more videos!
Just bought a 2018 Basecamp and we are very excited! Thank you Cass for the great videos. They have been a big part of the decision to make the purchase. Love your sincerity. Don’t change! We are also animal people so we will be taking our dogs with us on the adventures ahead.
This was a GREAT video. The more I watch your videos, the more I think, "Hey, Cat, you really can do this!!!!"! Thank you so much. You continue to take the "scary" out of this for me! I'd be very interested to see how you level the BC when you get to a spot!
I just bought a small travel trailer and plan to take it out on short trips near home for the first few times. I have owned travel trailers before (stationary) so I understand all of that but towing is very new for me. My plan is to get comfortable with towing and then head out full time. I have watched this video several times to drill it into my head. I have fear of the unknown so I'm very happy there are people out there like you to relieve my anxiety a little. Thank you!
Really glad to hear the videos are helping! New things and change intimidate me as well, but once I push myself past that I tend to find amazing new places and experiences. I'm having the same debate right now, whether the next spot I head to is a place I've been or someplace new I've been wanting to check out. In the end, you can do it!
That was most helpful. I've been eyeing Airstream trailers for a long time and thought maybe a basecamp would be my first intro to hauling a trailer. Breaking down looks easy enough. Still does take some practice to get it down to a smooth routine. Nothing like living free in open space with our beloved furry friends. Thank you for ur video. 👍🏽
Oh man, wonderful to watch a technically selfsufficient woman. You are just bursting with confidence and routine and that charming "lets get things done" attitude. Smart and also entertaining to watch. Thumbs up, good on ya, keep on rocking 🤘👍
This is super helpful!! Great video! One thing I would do is make a checklist...like a pilot would have. You may feel like you know the routine, but confirming with a checklist is always a good idea.
ohh hey Cass, I just watched that part again...... You have it in a great spot already..... nothing needs to change.... The safety chain location is perfect.
Just discovered your videos on UA-cam. Its amazing how Jasper & Napoleon get on so well & enjoy travelling with you on your adventures. You can tell they both really adore you & each other. Great videos to watch from the UK, what a way to travel & have adventures.
I've never towed before but I'm thinking about getting an off road teardrop trailer to go behind my Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. This video was very informative and easy to follow. Thanks.
I have one too. V6. I think with a good wd hitch we'd be okay towing a basecamp 20x, somewhere around 4000 or 4500 wet. She tows the 16ft and her 4runner tows 5000 max. But what do you think about the crappy tongue weight of the trailhawk jgc? It's only 350. That's why you need to pay more for special hitches, wd and antisway, I think.
Thank you for sharing so happy to see how aware you were of where Jasper was at all times some humans aren’t and bad things happen stay safe cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Very informative with an added layer of "risk management" to help those consider the underlying liabilities that could arise from a variety of perspectives. Gives people the confidence they need to enjoy their vehicles, while reducing the chance of something going wrong. Thank you!!!!
Buying a 2018 today! Super excited and you have totally inspired me with your videos!!! Thank you for taking the time to be so detailed. I really appreciate the info;)
Really enjoying catching up on your videos after finding your site a few days ago. Great info for everyone with a trailer. You are direct and straight forward with information which makes your content easy and rewarding to follow. I have a small hard sided pop up trailer and go through the same routine but do use a checklist as I've found even after years of doing this once in awhile I forget to do something. One thing I would recommend is a lock for your trailer hitch. I've talked to too many campers who have had their trailer hitch removed while at a trail head, or just out and about, leaving them unable to hook their trailer back up. It's unfortunate but it does happen.
I would highly recommend replacing that red curly line for the electric brakes. The idea is for the cable to pull the key out to activate the brakes. If its to long, the brakes never apply and then when you hit the brakes, you get rear-ended by your own trailer. Make the cable a inch or two, shorter than the chains. Stay safe🙂👍
This is an awesome video for a single person OR couples who are new to RV's - the best thing is the info about traveling with pets! That's the biggest variable my wife and I are trying to account for especially for longer term trips! Love this channel also as your TV is a 4Runner TRD ORP, same as ours!
I am late commenting, but this was excellent! I have solo rvd in a 33 foot motorhome, towing my Jeep Wrangler (4 down) for almost 16 years ... some full time, some shorter from overnight to 7 months ... 44K miles over those 16 years. Even with all that, I have a "pre-roll checklist" on my visor. I review it before I roll - ALWAYS! I have a set order and routine, but safety for me (pets) and others on the road is so important. Great video Cass! Love the walkthrough of all the steps you take to hitch-up your basecamp. For a non-RV’er like myself, it’s just fascinating to see this. Certainly not as simple as one would think.
Really enjoyed the video. you are very inspiring with your confident and knowledgeable presentation. I never thought I would like camping with a trailer, but seeing your videos. its making me reconsider. Take care. All the best from Canada.

I remember when I first came upon your site on youtube, Your site name, "Tails of Wanderlust'"is the title of a documentary released in the summer of 2006, "Wanderlust" about how the Americans on the road affect us all. Thanks for the detailed direction to safer traveling.
Hey Cass! I see by that target you been practicing with your bow! Cool! Maybe in your next video, you can throw some of that in there! Great video as always and stay safe!
Haha. I really miss doing my final 360 on the Airstream hook up before departure. Touch everything, verbalize it and that way you know you haven't overlooked anything. Solid video round up !
Great Video Cass. Much appreciated. We have a 20X, I've been staying in it since the day we got it in October. Moving it this next week and this is good help and plenty of tips.
Watching this video reminds me why I always stay at a site at least 2 nights. I’ve stayed for one night and I just leave everything hooked up. Pulled a Lance with a Tundra for years. 👍🏻
Tails of Wanderlust Yep unfortunately due to life we had to sell it....for $4000 less than we paid for it so well worth it for the 3 years we had it. 👍🏻
I used weight distributing hitch which is a bit harder to hook up. You need the electric raiser. But they prevent the dreaded trailer left and right swirl from different road situations. Once the swirl starts, you have a big problem very quickly.
Cass, Great video. One thing you didn't mention is to install the shower drain plug to prevent black water from getting into the shower pan, and checking that there is no water in the toilet bowl.
You and Jasper just did more work in the video than I'll do all day. haha. On that emergency breakaway cable, is there a longer one available? Looks like you have a tow hook mount point for it right next to the plug for the trailer. It would probably be too tight using it as is I'm guessing. Just a little dust on the dash... "well used"...haha. Great job done by Jasper the supervisor!!
Just a suggestion and maybe you tried it, but there are cargo nets in all sizes which you could use on those upper racks so you don’t have to empty them all the time. I have used them on canoes and kayaks as well as ATVs. But another good video.
Great suggestion Wally! I'd be nervous to do that, as I've seen other Basecamp owners who have had their cargo nets snap during travel from weight. Although, that netting would help keep the towels up there!
That dirt dust inside the car 🥰 I wish I had that . AWSOME on chains I tell ALOT of people to cross them they Chrugg me off and tell me it won’t happen 😒 love the set up love the vid living the dream
Like your Video but like to make a suggestion that I found helpful. My jack is a little different that yours it had the handle on top so I took the handle off and put u joint from a socket set on then I’m able to use my drill w/adapter to raise and lower my jack. Keep up the good work! Keep up the good work!
Suggestion on your 7 pin connector, I would squeeze dielectric white grease into each hole male end and female end. Will prevent rust from forming and last a lot longer I would redo this probably every 6 months or even 4 months as much as you us ,,,,great video
Absolutely GREAT video , glad to see the four legged super visors are safely secured during driving! You will make a great wife someday to some very lucky guy !

Tip at 7:32 - take out one of your license plate screws and replace it with an eye-bolt screw. Then attach your trailer's e-brake to it.

Great tip Joshua, thanks!
Great work Cass. Borders have opened up so planning my trips once we get through Christmas and the New Year
Sounds great! Excited to hear where your travels take you!
@@TailsofWanderlust Thanks. I tagged you an Instagram post showing a couple of photos of a small day trip done yesterday
@@Maison.Blanc7 I didn't see that tag come through. I'll go back and check!
@@TailsofWanderlust Just sent the post to you 👍
YOu are such a good fur mumma. & I love you for that. Thank you for showing everything. I really needed to learn that.
I'm so glad you found it helpful!
Great video!
Thanks!
Funny, I've never even noticed the tow hook mount before. I'll check it out tomorrow. They do make longer brake cables. And yes, that truck is dirty!
I've been worried for the whole video that you gonna forgot the dog's cot, until 16:24 you picked it up. LOL
Haha glad there was some suspense built in! Thanks for checking out the video.
So glad you appreciate the dirt in the car!
Like your Video but like to make a suggestion that I found helpful. My jack is a little different that yours it had the handle on top so I took the handle off and put u joint from a socket set on then I’m able to use my drill w/adapter to raise and lower my jack. Keep up the good work! Keep up the good work!
Love that idea! Thank you Dave. I'll have to look into that as it would make it much easier.
This is so cool you are so organized and have it together and I love you take your family members with you! PS do you have a check list like a pilot?
Thanks for the comment Mike! I actually don't have a checklist. I usually walk around 2-3 times just to double check everything.
@@TailsofWanderlust That's great!
Love your videos, Cass! Very jeolous of your lifestyle. Maybe one day.
Thanks Mickey! Hopefully someday!
Great videos, you have a lot of knowledge! Just waiting to see you doing some cooking. Thanks!
I have one cooking video so far, but will definitely do some more. Thanks for watching!
Looking forward to seeing the new winter camp, warmer climate I’m betting. I dream of the life your living. Safe travels
Thanks Jason! We'll see what this year brings - kind of hoping for some snow!
Oh no snow, 29 degrees here in STL. Hope you passed back through on your way to warmer temps by now
@@jasonswisher7113 Thankfully made it back safely, although I'm in CO so still quite cold!
Great job!
Thanks!
Love your vids. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Very practical
Excellent. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Suggestion on your 7 pin connector, I would squeeze dielectric white grease into each hole male end and female end. Will prevent rust from forming and last a lot longer I would redo this probably every 6 months or even 4 months as much as you us ,,,,great video
Great tip, thank you!
Absolutely GREAT video , glad to see the four legged super visors are safely secured during driving! You will make a great wife someday to some very lucky guy !
Thanks for checking out the video!
