I don't understand why people are getting so mad at Sergey over this issue. Sergey isn't the Russian government. I'm pretty sure not everyone in Russia agrees with everything there government do, he's said in many interviews that he doesn't agree with the anti gay laws. That guy sat next to him has also supported gay rights.
I think this works the same for every government in every country, i know personally i dont agree with nearly half the stuff the people in charge of my country do.

He never really said it was "safe". He just said he thinks Russian people would be nice to them. Maybe hes naive because from what it looks like he surrounds himself with more open minded people, so he mainly explained how he would treat the LGBT community. I just dont think people should judge him as a person based on Russian laws he didnt make.

+buncari I watched a BBC interview he gave where he criticized them, but I agree that Russian people should become more vocal on this issue when given the chance.

lol I'm pretty sure he did it to start rumours and give attention to it.. I mean even the way he asked it in was so bias and trying to push down Russia by saying it would be totally impossible for the LGBT+ to come to Russia.. ofc it isn't NOT true, but it would definitely be possible for them to try to please ALL their guests.
Sergey seems very supportive of the LGBT and so I hope if they win he'll be welcoming to all

So, Sergey great job answering the question, you handled it like a pro. He is my only one!!

+Paul Potter I read russian news on russian websites and sometimes watch russian tv shows on russian channels regarding LGBT community. and I also have gay friends who are russian and live in russia. all of that because I'm partly (1/4) russian and know language. and I also happen to be gay. so I don't read "western" news on LGBT at all simply because I don't need it if I can get first-hand information, and I have to say that situation there is actually worse than western media present it.s ome people in my social circle don't believe me when I'm telling them what's happening there. how much hatred is directed at LGBT on russian mass media and how many terrible homophobic comments you can find in any post about LGBT on russian social media. in nowadays russia if you're not homophobe then you're definitely gay. and being gay is believed to be as bad as being pedophile or cannibal. most of them call us gayrope and gayropeans like it's the most horrible insult, most of them believe that we pervert our children (and sometimes in worst way possible) and most of them sincerely believe that we want make them gay to destroy mother russia. what are they doing in EUROvision then? why didn't they withdraw? they don't want to 'come together' or 'build bridges', they just want please themselves by winning some "stupid gayropeans". if some russian wants to tell me that I'm lying - go for it! I'm telling the truth and I will argue cuz i know I'm right

Good jobs guys. Yes, homophobic jerks exist in Russia too, but it doesnt mean that all ppl in Russia homophobic jerks as well as it doesnt mean that all ppl in Europe are gay-friendly. Russia has hospitality. Really, if you go to a Russian household, you will be surprised. It's similar to Turkish hospitality for example.
However, hospitality ends if they find out that you're gay or muslim :D

+Nutzername92a there are no problems in Russia with muslims and with gays too =) Do you remember Dina Garipova eurovision 2013 - she is tatar, and she is muslim, and she won The Voice Russia by televote, and second place with Dina rook another tatar girl Elmira Kalimullina, also muslim tatar girl. So whole russia voted for two muslim girls. this shows that people have no problems with muslims in Russia. Alsou ESC 2000 - also tatar, muslim. About gays, too much is already said. if you are gay nothing will happen to you in Russia.

I''m so sick and tired of these talks about how much we hate gay-people in Russia! Don't try to tell me that each and every persone in Europe or in the USA are super-gay-friendly towards LGBT community. There are always would be haters, who won't accept them. In Russia it's the same! Some people accept them, some don't. We have gay-clubs, gay couples are not hiding underground. As the example, a lot of my men-friends would say that they hate gays just because they never met them. But after meeting my gay-friend they are changing their opinion very fast. And no one is trying to humiliate him or smth like this!

Well I mean it's hard for him to really tell what he thinks as he isnt that good at English as many of the others.. But I think that he was just trying to point out that there are already many of the LGBTQ community in Russia who live there. Of course he doesn't mention all the violence and abuse they get but.. also he isnt any kind of politician so he would maybe not know too much about the situation as it isn't a common thing to speak about..
But he was just trying his best at welcoming everyone, although he did so in a very cringey way xD.. But I really do hope if they win they'll maybe do something about that law and maybe start welcome everyone instead of just the majority of people

I've read people saying "a lot of eastern european countries are homophobic and they just speak about rusia" and yeah , they are , but russia has a harsh law that enhances that homophobic culture.I get that homophobic agressions are still happening everywhere, but when even authorities condemn homosexuality the place is fucked up for lgbt people. And i'm very sorry about sergey but whatever he says his country's still a dangerous place for lgbt people.

    • @anotherescfan9910

+Елизавета Пономарева I read about this freaking law very carefully. and I also read who and why was fined under this law. did you? of course you didn't. you saw word "minors" and immediately thought that it's a good idea. everything to protect "kids" from 'becoming' gay, right? then go and freaking READ about case of Yelena Klimova, for example, and other cases of using this law.

    • @PikaChan77v2
      @PikaChan77v2 8 років тому +2

+Елизавета Пономарева homophobia exists in every country , every part of the world.I'm from Spain , one of the most tolerant countries regarding lgbt issues and still laws do not always protect us , and homophobic agressions are still taking place. But i know as a fact that homophobia is originated from a lack of knowledge. People fear what they don't know of , and tend to be exclusive to it. Why would a government want to "protect" kids with a law that prohibits them to learn about lgbt rights? so they grow up ignorant about the topic and keep learning from the homophobic culture we all grow in? Because there's no other possible explanation. Or do you honestly think a kid could get psicologically hurt from knowing two girls or two boys can feel love and attraction just in the same way his dad and mom did?
Because come on, nobody "turns" gay. You might grow with literally everybody, EVERYTHING(not just people, ads, movies) making you think you're straight , and some day you end up realising you're not. But that doesn't mean you turn gay , that means you never were straight. I do not hate russia, i hate ignorance , wherever it takes place , because for some reason it always end up in stupid hatred towards minorities. And i hate a government that promotes that hatred keeping people ignorant . Obviously i do not hate russia or russians themselves , as long as some of them remain tolerant , i have the faith that society will finally learn one day from their mistakes

Sergey Lazarev is talented and he won the popular vote at the end in Eurovision 2016 with his excellent song and remarkable performance. Yet with the jury vote that was revealed, he got zero votes from 20 countries out of the 43. So harassment this gentle artist had to endure continued right till the end, I am pretty sure many also booed him when he performed and shouted insults. I don't know how fair minded you are, but you should agree no artist should be put to such scrutiny and harassment where all he is here for is to perform the best he can. So you so-called journalist. You have hurt him enough. You are probably glad you knocked him off with your question. All you did though was to insult him publicly simply because they gave the mic to you and you had the opportunity to. Good for you. Having said that, I can say Sergey handled the situation the best he could. He knew he wouldn't win, but tried his best to save face. Still he got the biggest public vote, and that's his consolation I guess.

Just because you can't be a screaming queen in Russia doesn't mean you can't go there. Also doesn't mean the place is awful. I would LOVE to visit Russia. I remember when I was young, growing up on a council estate in the UK I was petrified of being gay but that was partly my own insecurity. Now all those people I worried about don't care, in fact some of them are gay themselves. I like Sergey and I will visit Russia - I was already prepared to go there if they won. I would go as me, a normal guy, to see the country, watch the show and meet some amazing people. I would choose wisely who I outed myself too but I can always sense a homophobe. I think you just need to respect the local culture, don't expect everyone to like you or your sexuality but just as many will like it. it's all about respect - both ways

In USA gay marriages are allowed, and in Russia when a guy tells his not gey friends that he is gey they kill him "and say we are not guilty" and put two glass bottles in his anus...3-4 years ago it happened in Rostov-on-Don?
or may be you didn't see video "Reaction to gays in Russia social experiment"?

RadioLA but you asked about why the didn't come out, I answed why. Even in America many stars is not come up for years. And Sergey's orientation isn't proved, this is only rumors.

Андрей Волошин and I told you that persentage is completely different. In russia 100% of stars don't come out. and In USA or England it's hard to say about persentage, but definitely less.

RadioLA tnt male hosts of comedy woman maryed in Europe, and we have many stars, like Sergey Zverev, Boris Moiseev, etc and everyone knows that they are not traditional, but they are perform on TV, so it is not true that 100% gay russian stars don't come up.

I actually believe that he is a tolerant person and as some people are saying, he is not in charge of making laws.
As a gay man I would however be very cautious about visiting Russia, where the legal situation is difficult for LGBTQs.
As he however does not seem to be homophobic, I would still vote for him if I like his song.

+thrillershots please dont exxaggerate, I have lived in Russia for many years, in Moscow there are plenty of gay bars and clubs, you don´t have to hide. I don´t say Russia is gay-friendly country (thanks to the stupid goverment and its laws), but the Western people are really exaggerating.

It is clear that speaks well to win the vote of the people, because this ta close to winning the festival, but if homosexual people in Russia are so safe because they treated us so badly Hovi Star at Moscow airport ?? I think that mishap with the representativa of Israel, is only a small example of what can be Eurovision there.
It would be amazing to win Eurovision struggle between Russia and Ukraine!

+niko first of all do you have any proofs of your words? and secondly, even if Hovi isn't "nice" person it surely doesn't mean that he deserves to be treated like dirt. you're implying that he might be lying, but he isn't the one who told about that terrible incendent in airport, Barei was. does it mean that you're implying that she's also might be lying? wow. and thridly, wiwibloggs reported about this incedent in the key of whitewashing russia. they didn't even ask Hovi anything about it. they called that russian guy (Dmirty Melnikov) who was for a whole 15 minutes lying about happy lives of gay people in russia are and that level of homophobia there is the same as anywhere and that he would have helped Hovi if he had known and blah blah blah. and then this guy Dmitry Melnikov gave interview to russian news website, asserting that both Hovi and Barei are lying for the sake of PR. proof: life.ru/t/%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B8/403313/pieviets_priedstavliaiushchii_izrail_na_ievrovidienii-2016_ustroil_skandal_s_rossiiskimi_poghranichnikami) and who now looks credible enough?

Like the most people said there is a gay life in Russia, gay clubs, gay-friendly places etc. You just won't find them in the guide-book. We now have a law that forbids the propaganda of homosexuality. That means that you can't shout in the streets that you are gay, you can not dress up like Lady Gaga for ex being a gay man and act openly vulgar and theatric, you can't say on the tv that you are gay, no gay parades, you can't discuss on public your sexual gay life. It's a homophobic law, yes. But it doesn't mean that all the people are homophobic. I have several gay friends and a lot of acquaintances, and all of them don't want a gay parade, because it's pointless and irritating even for them. They live normal lives, have a job, friends, lovers. Popular public places are free from homophobes for sure! So dress and act decently- don't be noisy or vulgar and you are welcome everywhere in the world!

I am russian. And i am getero. And i have a few words about the situation here:
    1. Yes, we have anti gay low in Russia. But i accept the only part of it - i totally agree that children should know nothing about homosexualism in order to protect their psychic also to protect them from the following some kind of fashion. But i do not accept the other parts of the low. As many russians as well.
    2. We have gay life here (clubs, bars etc), you can easily find it in every city of Russia.
    3. About the hunters - yes it happens. But in Ukrain, Armenia and some other countries it happens even more often. We have also a low and police to protect any person from any kind of abuse.
Conclusions: just do not walk alonge the street wearing the skirt and make up on your face (if you are gay), kissing your boyfriend, do it in a gay club, respect our mentality and lows and have fun here! People are must more friendly here that you can read or watch it in a west media. Just come to Russia and see it yourself! Welcome!

+JavierSimSlope I am not agree, i do not hate gays, i respect them as irespect any person and one of my best friends is a lesbian as well. But children have to grow up before they can choose, and this is correct. It is the same like to have sex on the street. I am getero but i don`t need to go to the gathering about it, because my private life stays behind closed doors, and that is right.

+Elena Mazurkevich hahaha let me rephrase your words. "I'm not homophobe, but being gay is a choice and people become gay after seeing gay couples kissing or wearing make up. one can become gay bc of the 'fashion'. for me gay people who are kissing in the street is like straight people having sex". yeah, you're definitely not homophobe LOL. just replace every word "gay" with word "straight" and see how ridiculous you sound.

+Another ESC Fan well i visited gay clubs in Russia, i saw alot of teens there, about 14-15 years old. Then i asked my friend-lesbian about it. She told me - more of them are not lesbians, they are just try to look adult and stand out of their friend. Yes, some of them are really gays and lesbians, but just about 30%...I know it from an real lesbian.
