- Here at BeatGrade we decided to do our own Top Ten series of great producers. This feature is the Legendary Just Blaze. He has produced for some of the Best albums of all time. Just Blaze is an American hip hop record producer and DJ. Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Blaze attended Rutgers University for three years before dropping out to pursue his musical career. His stage name was inspired by the character Blaze Fielding from the Streets of Rage video game series. Blaze is best known for producing many of rapper Jay-Z's songs on his staple albums The Blueprint, The Blueprint 2, and The Black Album. His production can also be found on Eminem's 2010 album Recovery. He appears in the video for the third single from Recovery entitled "No Love", which he produced. Blaze is also the CEO of Fort Knocks Entertainment.

Damn he created the Roc sound
You mean Bink! created that sound. Just Blaze early stuff sounded like Swizz Beats knockoffs. Bink! was chopping those soul samples well before Just Blaze and Kanye.
@@MichaelBrown-ti1un preach, Just ended up finding his own sound later on but at first his beats had that Bink sound, it’s crazy how Bink doesn’t get that recognition
It was actually no id
him and kany west and young guru !
It Was All The Producers Yall Mentioned . Most Of Those Produces Gave The Best Beats To The Roc & We’re Kinda In House ROC Producers . From Bink, To Just, Ye’, No ID, & Yung Guru. Shout Out The Heatmakerz Who Did Alotta Work For Dipset & Chad West Who Did Alotta Work With SP
The fact that the Cam'ron "I Really Mean It" beat didn't make this list is criminal.
FACTS
Fact
And Lord Knows, and Compton...
BIG FACTS... I thought it'd be #1
I'm going to say the same thing if "welcome to new York city " isn't on here
Edit: live your life my favorite T.I song and I had no idea
Edit2: I'm upset and stand with you
"Breathe" is so fire to this day. "You Don't Know" definitely in the top tier.
One of the hardest beats this far, surprised nobody touched that sample since
First two songs that came to my mind.
What bout somehow someway that beat is hard
The MOP remix still goes HAAARRRDDD!!
For sure...
Song Cry is just so fucking brilliant. The way the voice is sped up, the way the harps & choirs are chopped, absolute masterclass in sampling.
Classic beat
Thank you. And I think Kanye be biting just a little.
No doubt
I thought song cry was Kanye
Can’t believe “Lord Knows” Drake & Rick Ross didn’t make this list. That beat is so ILLLLLLLLLL 😩😩😩😩 Plus Jay Z’s “Intro” 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I see Bae got some good knowledge
Best intro ever. Yea idk how it didn’t make it
Intro!!
@@hattorihanzo7415 🔥🔥🔥👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

He’s 42 now so he was in his early 20’s making gems
yep
He's only 42?? jesus...
That's the age. Late 10's - mid 20's is when you go your hardest.
Big F.A.C.T.S
Just blaze prooduced on prodigy HNIC album before he even started making beats for Rocafella.
That snare and bassline for Breathe is one of the things dreams are made of
Breathe is seriously one of the best beats ever made in the history of Hip Hop in my ears. It's so freaking timeless masterpiece. I get the chills everytime when I listen to it. The piano riff is the cherry on top, JUST like with Still D.R.E and it's right on point 💯🔥 absolutely and EASILY one of my favourites along with Still D.R.E
😂
Same here, U don't know second best.
I’ve always thought it was one of the most overrated beats in the history of modern day music
Agreed, that beat has been my go to for work out, running and just plain entering into a room. Inspirational theme music. Top 10 beat all time ( Symphony, Still DRE, BREATHE ect.)
Hated it
Had no idea he was this versatile. Exhibit A is such a beautiful piece of production
The ending piano reminds me of the soulful feel of Kanye’s keys for “Encore”… just beautiful
Lol those are not "kanyes keys" its a sample
The sample for Girls Girls Girls was genius. What a beat. Unreal. I listened to just the instrumental to that song countless times.
That beat is just pure brilliance unmatched
Me too, I remember I first heard it (Sept. 11th when I bought it after school - my senior year in high school) ..I was blown away and told all of my friends that it would definitely be a single. The beat gave me chill bumps 🔥 🔥
@@EJeremyStern it’s a sample
@@EJeremyStern Are you being funny?
too good. so sad it was wasted on such a mid rapper
Pump it up, lyrical exercise, dear summer, church for thugs, don’t realize, man just made my love for music flourish with his loud, energetic sound
Kingdom Come and Hovi Baby
Touch The Sky, Exhibit C...
I was thinking how produced lyrical exercise! That has to be on the list and definitely Pump it up
@@wizedivine "oh my god" also a banger!
It’s really fucked up how they don’t give Justblaze the GOAT credit he deserves. He should be mentioned alongside the peterocks and the premiers!!! JUST BLAAAAAAZE update: Ye is my boy but nahhhh, just blaze isn’t a copycat….or is he yall? What y’all think
He's better than Pete Rock.
@@d.c.4lifeking602 id say he’s better at flipping samples in a chopping type of way.

@@lg1607 DILLA FUCKIN DAWG FOREVER ‼️‼️
Each beat sounds like an entire soundtrack to me!
Real cinematic feel to Just's slower and mid tempo beats.
That PSA beat is legit the coldest shit he's ever done!!
I agree. That is his top beat for me. That track is why I bought the Black Album
Exhibit A and C for me.
Facts. That shit gives me chills every time
Listen to this song y'all gonna change your minds..
Seed of Love - Little Boy Blues
circa 1968
It’s a perfect beat. The piano keys bring you in, like real movie shit, and then when the beat drops and it just knocks! Man, incredible.
That “What We Do” should definitely be higher! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
We still hustle ti;l the sun come up
That beat is CLASSIC!!
@@FreeMindScoop "crack a 40 when the Sun goes down"
Putting Live Your Life above What We Do is blasphemous, idk who made this list but I'd like to know their rationale lol What We Do is top 3 Just joints easily easily
Facts!!!……. And facts to these other comments!……..🔈🔉🔊🔥🔥🔥
He basically created the Roc- a -fella sound for Jay-Z and the other artist on the label , and then KanYe
Facts
Honestly it was him Ye and Bink who really crafted that classic Roc sound
Not true. Kanye got that deep soul sampling style from No I.D. First single on Roc-A-Fella with this style was Beanie Sigel "The Truth" Jay wanted more of that style, and everybody else in house followed suit. Yung Guru spoke on this some years back.
Kinda. It's not like Roc was a bunch of no names with wack beats prior to Blueprint.
@@mrenglewood_77 Kanye also calls No ID his mentor multiple times
He should be mentioned in the same breath as Timbaland and Swizz Beatz
Couldn't agree more
To most of us, he is
If not more more influential.
Of course🙏🏿🎱💨
The sound design, drum programming and just shifting the culture by Timbo and Neptunes is just legendary. Also those 2 lived through different eras of the game. Blaze is still a legend, I would put him more at par with Kanye in the Roc era.
Exhibit C is so amazing! The drums punch hard and the piano breakdown chords are 🔥
It is fire but it's a pretty sample flip
Exhibit C is one of the greatest hip hop tracks of all time. Should’ve definitely been on this list.
This man was one of the BIG 5 in the industry at his peak. I never understood why he never got his flowers, unlike so many who diddnt deserve em.
Politics
Whenever you heard “JUST BLAZE” you knew it was a hit
Wasn't anything personal or politics. Blaze just didn't want it. Fame can mess with people, especially when it's unexpected. Blaze just wants to chill, play video games, and create music when and how he likes.
@@jdugg5461 Facts! Just blaze defined an era
The Second Coming with Juelz was big too.
CRAZY ASS BEAT!!!!!!!
There needs to be a Erick Sermon top 10
Wow 👏
Agreed!
One of The Dopest Producers...ever!
It had to be hard to make a top ten of Just Blaze.... This man has so many heaters.
Just BLAAAAAAAZE!!! Surprised “touched the sky” didn’t make the cut
Me too. I wish he put No More Fun and Games by the Game. That gangsta gangsta sample 🔥
I feel like Kanye got a lot of credit for what Just did...especially when it came to the Blueprint 1...he's one of the greatest 🔥
Definitely. I was today years old when I realized I gave Kanye the props for all these Blueprint tracks and his very own "Touch The Sky" Just Blaze is top 5
Yeap I wish I still had the XXL magazine where they interviewed them both it was some dope photos in there
Yeap I wish I still had the XXL magazine where they interviewed them both it was some dope photos in there
Did u watch the Drink Champs interview loll
True. Kanye is my favorite producer but I think people gave him so much credit only bc he produced "Izzo" which was a big hit and "Takeover" which probably had a lot of hip-hop fans talking bc it was a diss track. "Heart of the City" was also a standout Kanye track.
His beats on NBA street vol 2. Is thee most sickest beats I ever heard. JB is definitely one of the tightest beatmakers in hip hop.
Especially plan B

Why You Hate The Game definitely deserves to be here
Why You Hate The Game was incredible
No More Fun and Games
He is highly underrated... Pump it Up (Joe Budden), Touch the Sky (Kanye), No Love (Eminem) are still missing
Canei helped just blaze with touch the sky. And probably did the bulk of Eminem no love

Lord Knows - Drake_ ... could have been in there somewhere
Shyne- Diamonds and Mac 10's my favorite Just Blaze beat also 'Exhibit C' by 'Jay Electronica. Although so many good songs so everyone's gonna be disappointed that some are left off.

This man wrote the Soundtrack to my 20s!
Show Me What You Got was madness
I always thought that Fabolous "Breathe" beat was tough and still to this day is tough.
I never heard that song, but I suspect it wasted on a mediocre rapper like Fab.
@@logicalblackman8228 ....I'll agree to disagree on Fab being a mediocre rapper. I think Fab is nice with the flow. Definitely a punchline king with his flows. Doesn't have a long catalog of albums but Fab killed alot of mixtapes.
My favorite beat by Just Blaze is throwback by Usher, timeless classic
That was gon be for Dr Dre Detox
🤔Good record.. Not a bad choice.

U Don’t Know is also an absolute GOAT beat, but Jay makes the beat 10 times better with his lyrics.
That beat is mad 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
U dont know was and will always be an MOP track😉
Oh boy should have been #1! That beat is golden, especially the high pitched vocal sample, that was on point.

Nah.. its a ok beat from him.
One of the best flips ever!
Lord Knows too
I do a live version of it on the Mpc 4000 feel free to check it out sorry for the plug lol
I think Kingdom Come is a favorite among best makers because we know how insane the chops are haha.
His Sonic’s are amazing. Like his beats never loose energy. The beats always feels like it’s about to drop and just keeps suspenseful. He really knows how to make your face just make the ha yes this is hip hop look

Shit got me listening to the Blueprint, 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’m in tears of joy the moment I heard exhibit A on here 💯💯💯💯

I don’t think no one understands what that beat is about
The song fills me with awe, wonder and inspiration.
Am I tripping...ain't this the Exhibit B instrumental?

Great list. I'm glad that u made "girls, girls, girls" number 1. People tend to overlook that track probably because it sounds slightly poppy but I think it's easily one of Jay's best tunes. Not Drake's biggest fan, but I'm surprised "Lord Knows " isn't on the list.
Psa is top 3 automatically!!!!!! Come on man!
So simple and only 3 keys
Just blaze deserves all his flowers. Living legend no doubt.
This dude is incredibly genius
He deserves to be a crown producer contender
Just blazing ✌🏾💪🏾
Just created my whole sound track to life from my 20 to 25 years and that's a fact! If he wanted to, he could recreate his run RIGHT NOW because his beats are timeless
Just Blaze Havoc and Timberland don't get enough credit. They are all in my top 5 producers of alltime.
Tim? Really lol. He's a legend 4 sure but he gets a ton of credit i think.
Havoc is amazing at what he does but it's pretty 1 dimensional
Song cry is just blaze? This beat is magic...respect bro!
damn i never realized how many crazy beats this guy's made. My favorite is No Love by Eminem but Live Your Life and PSA are dope too
Psa is the only 1 of those he made by himself tho. Live your life was hardly him at all

Hes great at making beats out of songs you wouldnt think someone could. Like reflipping Superfreak for jayz. But Live your Life is such a weak, novelty sample. I get it, its catchy and something everyone recognizes but its corny af
Agreed. That corny a$$ beat shouldn't be on this list when Blaze has got bangers for days.
Honestly that beat is weak

If he was God sent why not do more tracks for God ..like Kayne?
Rick Ross’ BIG TYME, Kendrick Lamar’s COMPTON and Drake’s LORD KNOWS are smash hits

We don’t care is a great one too
What We Do belongs on Hip Hop's Mt. Rushmore of all-time great beats.
I think J. Cole would MURDER "Girls, Girls, Girls." He needs to redo that track. That beat is so sick on its own!

Amazing list! Honorable mention to the Just Blaze remix of Storm with Jay Z and Lenny Kravitz. One of my all time favorite beats.
For me Flipside and Pump it up were the reason why Just Blaze was no1 Producer in the early 2000s. Those beats had energy and an uncompareable vibe straight bangers from the first second you heard them.
