How to paint a tree with white blossoms

hi there, i am a beginner, so i'm wondering what is better to paint with if you don't have a lot of experience? Oil or Acrylic? and also want to know, can you make acrylic look like oil by adding something to it? I don't like the matt look on acrylic paintings but i know that oil takes ages to dry.

I use acrylics and I find it very difficult to use a sponge, it soaks up the paint and leaves the canvas showing... any tips anyone?
