I have a 2004 Toyota Sequoia which has the same engine. I know the oil filter is at an angle, but I try to fill the oil filter with new oil as much as possible before screwing it into the engine. That way, the engine needs less time to fill a dry oil filter and oil circulates faster after the change.
Aftermarket filters like wix and Mobil 1 have better anti drain back valves than the Toyota filters. Edit: since making that comment I have found out that Toyota OEM filters have much more filter media than aftermarket. And all anti drain back filters basically work the same once there has been oil flowing through them.
great video. This series on the 4.7 engine will be beneficial. Even though I have a LX the used hte same engine. I look foward to the timing belt, since I have to do this soon on my '03 with 130K on it. It runs great though.
Thank you for the informative and entertaining videos . I own a 04 4.7 Tundra 4x dbl. cab ltd. Do you have any concerns with switching to full syn. m.o. ?
older video,LOL! i just change my oil and filter , plus oil pressure switch in my 2004 Sequoia oil gauge would only go up when i drove ,at idle would say close to empty, now shows correct level ,runs great
Hello I was planning on doing my own oil change saw your video thought it was very helpful. Wanted to find out does it really need a torque wrench or can it be any wrench to screw in the Bolt
Is the oil pan on the 2-wheel drive model the same as on the 4WD model? My 2002 TRD off-road Tundra's oil pan appears to be flat, while the one in your video appears to be lower at the front end of the pan.
I just change the oil for my 2018 Corolla... and I noticed it didn’t have a washer/gasket for the nut, it seems it’s part of the oil pan. Is this correct or should I have try to remove what looks like is part of the pan?
We should use the same engine oil recommended (e.g. 5w30) by the manufacturer for whole lifetime of engine or we can change to high viscosity (e.g 5w40 or 10w40) as the engine gets aged (like 20, 0000 KM on odo) ?
I live and drive in San Diego where it's 75 degrees 90 percent of the year. I purchased an 02 camry with the 4 cylinder and 70k miles in 2019. It's July 2021 as I'm writing this. It's been a life changing economical car. I've completed 8 oil changes since I bought it and used Amazon's synthetic oil, regular mileage. Ive had zero issues and it may be a placebo affect but I think I have a better throttle response and fuel mileage. My car is empty except for my 300lbs self and I have been calculating at the pump 22mpg city but 38mpg on the highway. Driving 65mph from San Diego to Irvine. Should I lose 50-100 lbs by next year I may get 40mpg by January.
@@ToyotaMaintenance Actually, all Toyota OEM parts say "Made in U.S.A. " The Tundra is the most American Truck out there. American truck parts come from China and Mexico. So..I think that is a good reason to switch over to inch pounds. But keep the accent, I like it.

the 4.7 is one of the easiest motors to get to as far as room to work on stuff (same with the 4L in the Tacoma)
yes, except starter
Yup. Good luck replacing the starter lol
@@ToyotaMaintenance the starter is the bane of my existence. and of course it damaged my flywheel so now i gotta do both ughhhh

I have a 01 Tundra 187000 mi when I change oil I no longer take skid plate off bolt broken I use 0w30 mobile one works very good.
Hi Toyota Maintenance,
You use regular oil.
Can i use Syntheric oil for a Toyota Tundra 2004 with 204oooKm ( Canada )
I never removed the skid plate, plenty of room to get to oil filter. Just put a rag under filter when removed
Thank for that. I.m thinking of getting a 2005 Tundra, and the skid plate tuned me off. Wonder if a lot of people just leave it off?
@@nonamebrand8771 it’s necessary for the protection, you can possibly get a lighter one if they make any
I wouldn’t leave it off , Don’t want a rock or debris hitting bottom of radiator it’s pretty open with out it
That Chevron oil is good stuff.
not bad
Thanks for sharing this video ,great job
Thank you!!

Hand tight + 1/4 turn ,1/4turn
is my go to but
every car is different but if you wrench enough you will get the feel for it.
What happens if it's too tight?
I’ve never removed the plate when changing the oil in my 03 SR5.
Nice truck!

Where are you located? I want to do timing belt on my 2003 tundra
Mine only took 5 quarts on last oil change. Weird because I started it for a few minutes then let it drain completely.

No.5w30 no thicker.

Am I not supposed to use synthetic oil?
You can
You can but it's not recommend 😊
how long is the oil change interval..5000 miles?
yes, 5000 , unless , severe conditios , then 2500
Is there anyone who switched to synthetic oil?
Yes'm Mobile 1 for 2 years ,
Then Rotella T-6 for a year,
No problems.

Is it OK to change oil using ramps? Or should the vehicle remain level? I have a 2018 Tundra.
Okay to use ramps but level is better. Also, consider a Fumoto valve. Makes the job much easier.
Tim Johnson it doesn’t really matter tbh. Kinda stupid to put it on Ramps if you can do it without. One less thing to watch out for.
How bout some inch pounds instead of the communist metric...ha
japanese car is metric right ?
@@ToyotaMaintenance San Antonio Texas ain't in Japan. I'm just kidding you. I just have no idea how tight newtons are.

I prefer foot/pounds or as Dodge says - pounds/foot. 🤣
Harry Pouncey Of course Dodge has a different term for it
