- Rob Warner and Olly Wilkins tackle the GR5
It's late summer and Rob Warner has finished all of his commentating commitments. The mountain biking world are still coming to terms with the fact that was the last time they'd ever hear him commentate a World Cup but Rob has turned his attention to a much more real and imminent topic. Tackling the GR5 route from Lake Geneva to Nice. Over 500 off road miles of mountains and singletrack…
As Rob and Olly stand on the shores of Lake Geneva they are beginning to wonder what they have signed themselves up for. It’s grey and wet with an unseasonable cold snap descending on the region, throwing the intrepid adventurers a little off kilter before they even leave the car park.
As you can imagine they did run into some peril along the way. Did they make it to Nice? Watch this Christmas Special two parter to find out!
Thanks to Shimano MTB, Vitus Bikes, Focus Bikes and H and I Adventures.
Nice to see Ollie and his Dad riding together. Bit like, if Abbott and Costello had e-bikes!?🤣
Somebody’s forked out big money to make rob Warner put in that many pedal strokes
Hang on, did Warner just make a sensible decision?
We all make mistakes from time to time, this was his version 🤣🙌
He's an Egg head.
awesome, the top gear of mountain biking, Rob and Olly,,,,, legends 🍻🍻
Most iconic adventure duo
Valiant effort guys, those conditions looked horrendous by anyone's standards and you gave it a real good shot. I hate snow rides, my mind would have exploded if faced with that!!
Really looking forward to the next instalment.
What an epic experience good call Rob live to ride another day
GR55555555
Wheres the SONG, Doug?!
So good Olly!! More like GR666 though! lol
Should have taken the Mule ua-cam.com/video/XnFTBCpf4-g/v-deo.html
More like BRRRRRRR5
Definitely a whisky ride. Valiant effort from the kaprun 96 champ
Apparently it is standard procedure to drop your pants to signal to the helicopter that all is well.
Fuckin Brilliant, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum 😂
Fair play boys, that was getting dangerous! Looking forward to episode 2 👊
Nice 👌 looking forward to part 2, with less fog!
Absolutely epic ride.
Immaculate preparation from Warner but good fun though. Can't wait for part 2!
Fair play for going as far you did. I've been on the bike in ice and snow, but only a couple of miles from the nearest road. That tooked brutal!
I love Ollie, I love Warner, this is epic!
Also I seriously want to do this trail!
In good weather…
Epic! The right call, for sure. 👊😎
Wow to say the weather was foul 😬
Great video and wise decisions made when it got really bad.
Looking forward to the next instalment 🤘
Some set of cahonies to have taken a stab at that fella's, great effort! Looking forward to the next instalment :-)
Thanks 👍
Awesome, guys! Spent 4 amazing years in Geneva/Alps and a really good call to 'call it' as that shit will kill ya! Brilliant vid and one for my bucket list!
Wow. You 100% made the right decision. It was not great tele, I was just thinking why are they carrying on.
As for the tbc... that looks hilarious. Rob and Ollie are a brilliant combo. They should be on mainstream TV. No lie.
Thankyou Sir, Part two is 'brighter'!
Loved this it was brilliant
well this is the bollocks. give us more immediately! Please 😀
Looking forward to seeing that helicopter coming up the valley in the next video!
Thought it may not go so well. When Olly went on a long ride with Brendog, they planned so far ahead they even took an inner tube with them! Nothing to pump it up with.......... but at least they had it!
At least you didn't complain much in this vid Rob... oh wait ;) :D
When Rob throws his bike down 😂 epic vid and good decision on not continuing. Only wished the purple tinged beard was present to really take it to the next level. Get Peaty on more vids Rob! Olly is awesome also but takes me back seeing you two together.
So good Rob!!! I don't think Olly knew about walk mode lol!
Cool vid
Love this!
Smart call lads👊
Much respect for you guys that was insane
Thanks it was defo cold
Brilliant :D
Just like the South Downs Way in the wet
Seems about right for summer in the alps every time I've been their riding.
Yewwww so good!!
Those are some cute little backpacks ya got there. Glad you guys had a professionally planned trip with excellent support staff, although the timing seems a bit shitty.
TLD Boss!
Fantastic anxiety provoking sound track! Good on you lads, a great adventure, great decision, thanks. Try it in summer next time maybe?
I think we'll go back do the first bit again
What.... I have to wait!!!
Looks ace 💯💪🏼🤝🏻
top video and can not wait till the next instalment
Tomoz at 4!
That was extreme, fair play! Good call. Mountain Biking is extreme 😅
GR5 FINAL EP1 4K 2 - what a title! 😆
But Rob and Olly in the same video is always great....can't wait.
Ha, don't think you were supposed to see that... but Thankyou and these are good :)
@@robwarner9700 soooorry! 😆
But hey…at least i’ve liked or subscribed already. Take care! 🥳✌🏻
Every video from now on “come on stop complaining, you never heard me complaining when I rode 500 miles in the snow covered Alps”
Great adventure, But sensible decisions made 👍
Good call, mountains are like the sea. If you aren't prepared for the conditions and things go south you're on your own and just being there can kill you.
Funniest bloke on the planet Legend
Great video, it made me think I’d like to try that during the summer 🤣You may as well have stayed in the UK if you wanted mud and rain 😉. Good job Odub was along for the positivity.
See you for part 2
15th september in the alps, you cannot expect to have 15 degrees 🤣🤣🤣
All hail the egg. What a fantastic expedition with Olly. How fun. Love the videos Rob and can't wait to see what you do in 2023!!!!
I think he saw what time it was!
Maybe give it a bash in June next time 😂
Very wise decision a shame but smart
In that cold and fog, not a good idea, I'm no Bonnington!
It's never a legit epic ride if the toys don't get thrown out of the pram at least once !
Are you using a GoPro Rob and not the Insta🤪 oops. Where’s your front mudguard mate?!
Might aswell have gone back to Scotland.
Great video but I’m assuming that someone planned that expedition for them? If so, the planner put them in a really dangerous situation.
Really good decision to turn back.
Looking forward to the next one.
I was behind it really, took some help to organise it, and yeah we'd have been in trouble for sure, wild them mountains!
@@robwarner9700 Credit to you then for not just pressing on to save face Rob! You made some very sensible decisions on the hill.
toys out the pram
Awesome vid guys great effort, what ankle brace is olli using at the start?
661
Ossur formfit 👊
@@owilkins23 awesome thank you dude as I broke my ankle and now have pins and plates in so need one
Should have gone in July/August it was glorious sun 99% of the time 😂
It was 25 the week after!
@@robwarner9700 😂 Bastards!!
how does it always rain when Rob rides his ebikes😂
Dude, it's winter, ski's & Snowboards in the Alps not bikes (certainly not above 2000m) ;-) !
Next time in July or August? Or is it worse then?
where the heck does Rob get his Tory Lee vitus jerseys
Who decided to attempt that at that time of year?
😁
oh, would you look at the time......
What time of year was this?
What did u expect ? 😂
So who is really the "Talent" in this? The riders or camera man?
Winging
When we going to see you doing some trials and motocross with Billy Bolt and co? Happy Christmas and NY :)
'll work on it, would be good
what bikes u guys riding ? tks
Focus Jam² and Vitus E-Sommet, but both with some modifications, probably
@@e_mtb ✌🙌🙏
Hi Rob, is there a way to get the gpx file of the route?
It’s online, I found it, paid 3 euros for it I think, was accurate and good actually, the Harmon was accurate
What on earth 🌎 😂, surely u must of realized the Alps is the prime location in Europe for skiing this time of year, obviously going to be horrendous weather and dangerous 😱
Agreed ! But we shot it in July :)
Ok that's bad 😂
27..5 2.8 Tires
Exactly what is the ffin point can’t see shit and it’s cold
Exactly what we were saying for the first 4 days
Should the title of this not be 'PART of the GR5' seeing as some of it passes through a national park where bikes are not allowed
Yeah no thanks
Didn’t look fun. Hate when you go somewhere nice and the weather is shit
Me too especially with the pressure of needing a film out of it!!
Cheaters
Nice motorbikes, lads!😂
well done Shimano, the minute you japs drop Warner is the day I switch to SRAM.
