Bishop Baron, you and Jordan Peterson have brought me back to God. I was raised Catholic. I was Baptist, had my first communion, and in the 8th grade I did confirmation. As I got older I lost my faith for so many reasons. But by the grace of God I stumbled upon you and Jordan Peterson...I am awake now. Thank you so much and God bless you.

This reminds me of Mother Theresa's saying that God does not require we do great things but that we do small things with great love. The smallest self-sacrifice for the good of another is indeed letting Christ live through us.

Deep in prayer, my cross to wear
      I kneel upon the floor
Temptations of a catholic priest aren't easy to ignore
But I can not control myself
      He rips my soul apart
For one small sheep among my flock has
      Stolen the shepherd's heart
      Altar boy, altar boy
      Confess your sins to me
You will find the grace of God
      Inside my rectory
      Sunday mass or bible class
I catch him in my view
I close my eyes but there he lies
      Spread-eagle on the pew
And when I see him in that frock
      My conscience goes awry
I'll give him some communion wine thats
      Spiked with Spanish fly
      Altar boy, altar boy
Is it gonna be heaven or hell?
You can play my organ all night long
If you promise never to tell
      ... Our father
      Who art in heaven
      Hallowed be thy name...
I could dress him up like the pope and then I'd...
Oh dear god, the shame, oh no
      Lead us not into temptation
      Deliver us from sin
Or we could pretend that he was Jesus Christ
      and I was Mary Magdalene
      Altar boy, oh altar boy
      Confess your sins to me
You will find the grace of God
      Inside my rectory

A less gifted theologian would have presented a talk on the “economy of salvation” (HOW we are saved). But Bishop Barron presents the topic in a way that is rooted in Scripture (for this alone, thank you, God) and is highly memorable. A prophet among us, indeed.

When I sin and fail, and feel the guilt of it, I remember that Jesus willingly suffered all he did for my sake. If he was willing to go through the depths of suffering for me, surely He will not give up on me now. I have vowed to myself that when I sin, I will pray.

I was Lector at the Vigil Mass, reading these passages from Isaiah. It made me think of how we need to be prepared to suffer for our faith in these times, so increasingly anti-Christian. I pray that I will be able to hold fast to my faith when those around me mock me and accuse me. Help me Lord to suffer for you, and align my will to yours.

Well said! What we need is to grow in our love for God, and arrive even at a perfect love of God. This is possible by God's grace. When we love God sincerely, we do his will notwithstanding all the difficulties we come across. Grace is more powerful than sin. I’m publishing a weekly UA-cam video on episodes from the life of Don Bosco, entitled ST JOHN BOSCO by JOE ZAMMIT. In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you

I have come to appreciate the richness of my Catholic faith. O how I thirst to know more about You. My prayers for Pope Francis, Cardinal Chito, Cardinal Joe, Bishop Robert Barron, Bishop Ambo David, Father Chris Alar, Father Dave Concepcion, Father Jerry Orbos and many many more priests who continue to proclaim your love and mercy. Thank you for mentioning motherhood, Bishop. This past year I went through a very difficult pregnancy and one of my other children spent weeks in the hospital. I am sad to see people holding onto the culture’s mantras of looking inward to determine truth, because in the face of intense suffering-of blood clots or racing in an ambulance with your daughter-these mantras become folly. Only in a scope that includes this peculiar, suffering God do these dark moments seem redeemable. ✝️🙏🏻

I think its important that we don’t beat around the bush and spell it out exactly the purpose of Christ suffering. God is infinite and his system of justice is infinitely perfect. Breaking Gods law has consequences and penalties. Aquinas tells us that the penalty for mortal sin is infinite because it causes the eternal loss of communion with our infinite creator. We can’t pay for our sins because we are finite, only an infinite being can pay for our Sins . Jesus is the only person that can pay for our sins because he is an infinite being. When you go to mass you cash in on the suffering of Christ, your soul is reunited to God . Because your soul is reunited to God you can begin to live a good life. The wisdom of God fills your mind with truth , with that truth and wisdom from God you can begin to make a good life for yourself. Without the mass and Christ suffering you are still living under divine penalty and most likely a slave to some system or force. A slave to money, a slave to the devil, a slave to your flesh with all its bad habits. In general without the mass you are a slave to mediocrity, boredom and some type of prison this God forsaken world has built for you.

Hellooo. I’m 15 and just went into sophomore year of highschool. I’ve always been Catholic but yesterday someone challenged my beliefs with a lot of really hard to answer questions which actually ended up giving me my first panic attack. I saw someone on Reddit say that you helped bring them back to Catholicism after they were originally an atheist. In this period of self doubt if you could answer (or anyone else who feels like they can) these questions I’d really appreciate it.
    1. If we are only happy in heaven, what is happiness without sadness? Would we even be ourselves?
    2. Would we have a sense of purpose in heaven if we live forever there?
    3. Why does god create babies that will die in the womb, if he is all knowing?

    • @jenniferwinston7842
      @jenniferwinston7842 3 роки тому +7

      Answers to your questions
      1. In heaven we are our pure selves. We struggle in earth plagued by evil demons. Tell your friend to read genesis
      2. Sense of purpose? We are fully human. That challenger only sees the most denigrating perspective of human life. He sees only a utilitarian viewpoint... that is a person's value is assessed by their utility.... how much money they possess and how useful they are to the state. This is why in the list century alone I've 150million people were murdered under atheist regimes. It's the fundamental problem with socialism as well. That is to say that socialist life is driven by economics.... whereas the judeo-christian life is driven by moral law and justice....ex. no one needs to be taught that they don't want to be robbed, murdered, slandered, etc... we all know this.... it's what we call moral law.....and the golden and silver rules.
      3. God did not create babies that will die in the womb. God created babies and people chose to murder them. God gave us a choice to follow his teaching. He's not a dictator. What kind of God would not give his people choice to follow Him? The argument that God is all-knowing and allows evil is nonsense. Even when you hold a child's hand sometimes they trip and fall. God uses all things for his glory. God had given us Heaven here on Earth and the Garden of Eden and we rejected it. None of what we see has anything to do with the nature of God and everything to do with the opposite.
Go to the magistrate Center of Faith website. They have some great tools there for for educating others and answering some amazing questions. Father Spitzer who is the founder of that site is also an accomplished physicist. There is more science to prove the existence of God and understanding his nature, then the opposite. In all honesty there's no defensible argument to say that God does not exist. The best written argument, written by a scholar who was once an atheist is "The Last Superstition" by Edward Feser. It is not an easy read, but it is the best understanding from a perspective a logic and reason for the existence of God.
      Keep up the good work.

It's probably a good thing that you are being challenged in your faith. That seems to be the way faith grows. No need to worry. It's been said that the Catholic Church is like a lion in a cage. All you do is open the cage and it will fight for itself. In other words, many great minds have already answered just about all these questions, and they are very satisfying answers. I wish I had time to give you some answers... but I have a busy day ahead. 1 Cor 2:9 is an important factor to keep in mind. "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him." There is a reason Jesus talked used parables and analogies. Because it's a mystery. It doesn't mean it's not true, it just means, there is nothing in our universe that is exactly the same. Keep in mind Jesus said things like there would be greatest and least in the Kingdom. He said the 12 Apostles would be rulers over the 12 tribes (The church). So it seems we won't all be the same. It seems we will have assignments. But us trying to imagine what the new world is like, might be like a pair of twin babies in the womb, one trying to describe to the other what it is like outside of the womb. There is no way for them to even comprehend what that would be like, but it doesn't mean life outside of the womb isn't real. God bless!

@@philipfarnam6013 go to the Magis Center of faith to read some of their modules. There's much more objective evidence to refute your very subjective claims. The notion of Heaven and Hell Etc are not theological constructs. Try reading Edward Feser 's book called The Last Superstition. Theology itself was not an actual field of study until centuries after the birth of Christ........
Moreover, scholars 2500 years ago, 500 years before the birth of Christ understood the logic and reason for the existence of God and Heaven.
Of course there are plenty of books out there to support your claim, but they are subjective opinions based on the subjective opinions of others instead of actual reason, logic, and objective evidence. Aristotle did not write based on dogma.
Poorly educated and atheistic philosophers may have debated for centuries why God allows evil, yet never has anyone actually won a debate on the premise that God causes or is evil..... which conflicts with the logic of God and his nature.
Even when you hold a child's hand while walking down a street, they might trip and cut their knee. That doesn't mean that the parent caused them or allowed them to trip and hurt themselves! Things just happened in this broken world, when human beings continue to curate their own reality and their own God.
Furthermore, what kind of a benevolent God would not give his people choice?.... lest he should become a dictator....... you make the mistake of assuming that theology simply makes the case for the existence of God. Actually science does a better job at that, whereas theology is the study of God, which was introduced after universities had been established in the world. Theology didn't exist is a field of study prior to that time.
I agree with you that there are several books in that many things are easy to look up. Don't make the mistake of using third-party resources that are based on subjective opinion.... I would argue you might want to look at the writings of first century Scholars as well as the others I mentioned. The Magis Center of Faith is filled with science and reason. Aristotle was one of the greatest multidisciplinary scientists. Do not suffer from chronological arrogance to think that you might be smarter because you were born later. Read up so you can have an actual debate based on truth

    • @sarahrei4530
      @sarahrei4530 3 роки тому +2

Wow, these are some really hard questions to answer but I’ll try my best :)
So when it comes to the first question, I don’t exactly know what was meant by ,,what is happiness without sadness”, but I suppose that the person who asked you this was probably refering to the fact that as we all know, sometimes being unhappy or having something taken away from us makes us realize how much of a blessing it was and how much we need it and that we would really do a lot of things just to get that something back. And when it happens that we do, when our wounds are healed, we feel some extraordinary happiness just from the fact that it was given back to us. Like for example being sick and then being healed once again, at first, when you were healthy, your condition wasn’t exactly causing you some extraordinary feelings of happiness, but then, when you’re healthy again, let’s say you’re cured from a very serious disease, you can feel truly ecstatic about it. So I suppose what this person meant by asking you this question was, if there’s no sadness in heaven, won’t happiness become simply dull and very ordinary after some time, would we feel fulfilled, woudln’t it get boring? To answer that, I’d first of all say that there’s probably no person in their right mind who would choose sadness and suffering over happiness, that, I think, is obvious. I believe it’s possible to ask this question that you were asked on a really theoretical level, but that might only mean this person didn’t have much experience with suffering yet, since I think anyone who’s ever suffered would much rather not feel the pain, that’s not a really complicated concept. After all, who likes things that harm us? Who would voluntarily choose to suffer just so that their happiness, after the suffering is gone, might feel greater and more intense? That surely sounds insane. In this light, I don’t see how someone could refuse truly unlimited, perfect happiness, such a decisions would not only be deeply against our natural instincs, but also against the deepest calling of our souls. If it wasn’t so, why would the desire for happiness be exactly what connects every single human being? And secondly, happiness given to us from God is something much fuller, much bigger, much greater than we can ever imagine. We wouldn’t get tired of it, we woudln’t get bored with it, and most definitely it would not take any sort of sadness to make us realize how great it is that we have it.
When it comes to your second question, of course we would have a sense of purpose in heaven. Being in heaven means being with God, united as closely and as intimately with him as possible, feeling perfect happiness and ultimate fulfilmet every single moment. It’s not about whether we would have a purpose there, it IS our purpose, our sole purpose, to be there, to be united with God in such an incredibly close way. Now I know that explaining this to an atheist might be difficult, but again, maybe try asking them what do they see their purpose in. Most people’s answer would be ,,happiness”. And if happiness here on earth can be their purpose, is it so hard to believe that our purpose is an even bigger, fuller, much more real happiness? It’s the deepest calling inside every single one of us. And when it comes to our lives in heaven lasting forever, take this analogy. If we are having a really nice, happy moment in this life, we simply don’t want it to end, but sooner or later it has to. Isn’t it what spoils the happiness? Thinking that at some moment it will end, that it’s just momenary? So why would God in all of his love and goodness give us perfect happiness and then take it away? No, he will make it last forever, simply because if he didn’t, it wouldn’t even be full happiness at all, not if we would always have to think about the moment when all of that beautiful, sheet ecstasy would end.
Okay, now for the third one, this one is extremely difficult, and I’ve been thinking about it several times myself. Well, of course, I can’t see into God’s mind, but the best way I can explain it is this. We as humans can only see what happened or what is happening, but we can never know what ,,might have” happened if some things happened differently. But God? I believe he definitely does. So if he lets such childern die in the womb, he surely has his reasons. Who knows what he was saving these childern from? Perhaps from an enormous amount of suffering. Perhaps this was the only way to save them for eternal life, perhaps if they would be born and live, they would refuse him and wouldn’t be able enter heaven because of this decision. But God wants everyone to come to him, so who knows, such an act might be an act of incredible mercy. Or another theory, maybe it wasn’t even for them, but for their parents, God works in mysterious ways and sometimes suffering is exactly what can open our eyes so much and make us see things we didn’t before. If such a child dies, I suppose it goes to it’s real home, to it’s Heavenly Father, and that without any suffering at all, however the pain from it’s loss can be something that will help it’s parents grow immensely after some time. I mean these are all just theories when it comes to this question, but that’s how I see it.
I hope I was able to help you at least a little, and God bless you!

Bishop Barron you are a consummate teacher. I love all of your teaching sessions. How blessed are we. Excuse me, but where are your bother Bishops? I can imagine what our holy Church would be like if we had more Bishops like you. In this culture we are poorer without their input. The laity, I feel, is getting restless. We need more of the leadership that you provide. May God bless you and your work.

Another blessed homily. Thank you and may the Lord continue to anoint and bless your ministry.
You do harm to the anointing and to the people you are evangelizing by bringing up disputed
    opinions from the
historical/literary critics of the last 200 years. Keep to the Creed:
"I believe in the Holy Spirit......who spake by the prophets." For almost 2000 years the Church has taught that Isaiah was inspired by the Holy Spirit. It harms, confuses, and weakens the faith of potential new believers by throwing in a little academic knowledge about the authorship of Isaiah. The essential authorship of Isaiah has been settled for
thousand of years. The Holy Spirit was speaking through the prophets who wrote down the anointed message. A complete copy of Isaiah was found in the Dead Sea Scrolls assuring that the copy we have today is the same as the one Jesus used. The total message of Isaiah points to Jesus as the Messiah and savior of Israel and of all mankind. You confirmed this with the central theme of your powerful homily. It's not necessary to muddy the water with speculation and doubt about the authorship. The Holy Spirit gave us the prophecy of Isaiah and preserved it using anointed Hebrew scribes and priests as well as anointed apostolic Christian leaders. You are in my daily prayers. God has anointed you as a great evangelist for this present age. Peace an love.

At this time in Eternity the Catholic Church is ISRAEL.
The suffering SERVANT IS JESUS. He suffered greatly for our salvation.
People are fickle, as it was then it is now. Jesus is being mocked, beaten, rejected today as He was back then, by the ones who should be giving their lives to defend HIM IN HIS HOLY TEMPLE! AMEM.🕊

Read how God shows His love:
There is only one God who is eternally manifesting himself in three persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
The Bible says, that we are all sinners.
As it is written: There is none righteous, no not one. Romans 3:10
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags. Isaiah 64:6
For the wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23
(The word “death” in this verse speaks of spiritual death in hell.)
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Isaiah 1:18
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures 1Cor 15 3:4
For by grace ye are saved; through faith and not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast EPH 2:8-9
You are a sinner and deserve hell, but Jesus loves you, and payed the price for your sins, by dying on the cross for you. His shed blood cleanses us from sin.
You can’t earn heaven by being good or trusting in religion. It is a FREE gift given to you by God.
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vein Galatians 2:21
If we could get to heaven by being good enough, then Christ wouldn’t have needed to
die on the cross to pay for our sins.
If you would like to receive Jesus as your Savior.
Realize that you are a hopeless sinner and trust in Jesus and only Jesus to save you.
You can say a prayer expressing your gratitude, sorrow for your sins, etc. the words don’t matter, but remember your prayer doesn’t save you. Your trust in Jesus and what He did for you on the cross is what saves you.
The moment you trust in Jesus and only Jesus, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit and saved.

The servant-God is quite oxymoronic... However, this is an order God deemed fit to redeem the world. Somehow, God has seen the imperfections of human sovereignty and power. It's fulfilling to behold and serve the servant-God.

Bishop Barron, thank you for walking us through this magnificent paradigm shift. I can only imagine the struggle the people in the time of Jesus had in accepting that Jesus was truly the Son of God establishing a new convenant with his beloved people in a way no one could imagine would be the way if it wasn't for the grace from God and the movement of the Holy Spirit. It is a deeply moving and awesome realization. This presentation did not fall upon deaf ears as I continue to process His gift to us upon His cross!

When I was a kid, I thought how nice it is to be God (as foolish as I was back then thinking about it), because you can do whatever and you have all power to feel nice and enjoy everything you can; but now I know that God Himself in Christ Jesus suffered terrible suffering and agony unto death for all of us, so much so that people would stand away from Him, "nothing in his appearance that we should desire him."
