ROKR's AK-47 Wooden Kit (Full Build)

  • ROKR AK-47 Wooden Assault Rifle, LQ901, 315 pieces, 14+.
The dimensions of this wooden kit are 215mm x 717mm x 56mm. So it's not full scale.
I added some background sound, beach with waves, as the long sections without any narration seemed odd.
Let me know what you think?
The sound is from Freesound. And is called amholma by Andrew Holman👍

What another great video. I can not begin to comprehend the effort that goes into all the editing, etc. prior to posting.
On top of that, a truely inspirational build! I was given a ROKR kit (army field car) sometime ago and I have now moved it to the forefront of my stash. Thanks again, Greg.

That’s what I love about this channel. It’s like a blindfold dip into the tin of assorted biscuits. Plenty of custard creams, jammy dodgers and bourbons but occasionally the odd pink wafer. They all go down great with a cuppa.
Interesting kit Greg. I tackled one of those 3D metal kits on holiday for a change and made myself a Terminator - I’ll never moan about bending a couple of bits of Tamiya photo etch again!
You should enter this at Telford - worth it to see the head scratching 😊
Thanks again for an enjoyable watch.

Really fascinating watching it all go together and very different from the usual plastic subjects. Would love to have a go at something similar myself.
I recall having a crack at the balsa airframe aircraft kits back in the day during my early teens. NOT die-cut so was a pain in the backside cutting everything out.
I never did finish one properly having always made a mess of applying the tissue paper. For me the enjoyment was always in the crafting.

Was so intrigued, I just had to watch it again and just purchased the AWM Sniper rifle. Tempted to get the Thompson, MP4 and AK-47 as well.
Cheers again for putting this together, and please do it again if/when you get around to building another!

This video is so detailed. Even though I'm Vietnamese, I feel like the video you made was extremely thoughtful. Maybe I don't understand some details in the video, but I'm very impressed with your video. This is actually the video I've been looking for these past few days. Sorry my words may be clunky and wrong because I use a translation app.❤

Sweet. Not my idea of a good time, but I can see there being a market for this kind of thing. The video is fresh, hypnotic and engaging. Maybe it is my age, but when I saw the bag of rubber bands I thought: "Oh no. It's not going to be a catapult gun is it?". Not that this is a bad thing necessarily, but we built similar kits made of Card, Plastic and Wood when we were kids. Nothing as sophisticated as this and certainly not worthy of display. Nice one Greg.

That's an amazing kit and great fun. When I looked it up I couldn't believe the price, I thought it would be at least double what it is. There are also a lot more parts in it than the original Kalashnikov gun.

I just finished this kit myself earlier this evening, had lots of fun building it. I used wood glue but very sparingly. I had enough metal pins of the correct length, but not enough of the longest screws (P17) so I wonder what their loose parts quality control is like. Or maybe I will find that last screw tomorrow it's dark now. Anyhow I improvised and used a small bolt with a nut. There were many small wooden parts left, but they took into account you might break parts while building the AK-47. The mechanism and the rubber bands actually worked, much to my surprise. Blew away the (scale 1/32?) little wooden soldiers many times! Let's see what I can kill tomorrow.
The price was reasonable I guess I've never done a 3D wooden rubber band gun before, 51 euros. Shipping not included which for some reason was free. Or maybe it was included but they didn't make that clear.
Some criticism: The instructions are detailed but often much too small. I sometimes had to guess what was left or right of a particular small part or how it fit into another part. But it seems I made no serious mistakes. The other problem I had with the kit is how crude the finished model was in certain places. Large open gaps where the magazine and butt stock are joined to the receiver. There is no butt plate, because the stock is as rounded at the end as the rest of of the stock. Frankly a bit dissappointed about the rear part of the lower handguard, but I guess that really beautiful (and fragile) technique for creating rounded shapes elsewere on the handguard was not possible there.
Of course I know it's just a rubber band toy gun but I'm considering to make it look more real: Sanding off the sharp ridges of the butt stock and pistol grip, putting a decent butt stock plate on the gun, and filling up that big hole on the lower handguard. Maybe even trying to paint it in a metallic colour.
