You are very fortunate to have each other as a travel companions. I am doing the same thing, but solo which adds to the expenses considerably.
I find that in addition to the "2 heads better than one" when it comes to planning, the RIGHT travel companion can make a huge difference, positively , and sharing in the cost is an added benefit as well.
    Keep on traveling!

Hi, Robert. We do feel very fortunate that we found each other and that we each have the same dream to travel the world. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Safe travels!

I'm curious why you say traveling solo ADDS to the expenses. I would think it would reduce your costs considerably, having only one mouth to feed, one ticket to buy, etc

True, this is why I just stay home and enjoy where I live. I travelled for work and have already done everything. I would only be interested in slow travel. But the idea of paying for my own travel, and going alone, it too big of a hurdle.

Why should solo travel add to your expenses? It should be more affordable for a solo traveler. I too am considering solo travel.
But having companionship is priceless. Surely life is so much more enjoyable with someone to share it with.

That’s amazing guys! 30k for 2 people, dream destinations and memories you cannot put a price on. Really enjoy your channel. Look forward to another year following your travels. Really interested in how you pick your flights! $5,000 for 2 is impressive, hope you have a video about that coming next year. Would love some coaching for our family vacation next summer going to Europe 😂

This is a great video! Including the map was a great idea to give folks a visual of your travel footprint in relation to countries and places within those countries that you covered. You seem like down to earth people with a healthy curiosity for life. I love that. Keep up the great experiences and thanks so much for sharing them with us. Been following you guys since the beginning, in Valencia! It's been super interesting watching you guys learn along the way in this first year. My girlfriend and I have been traveling pretty regularly for going on 8 years (though typically staying in places for at longer periods), and its been quite the journey. We just decided to start a channel ourselves (we would love you to subscribe and follow along)!
People always think that travel has to be super expensive- but it's not true. If you're flexible, and willing to make some sacrifices, it's possible to travel quite cheaply.
Really looking forward to seeing what you guys get up to in SE Asia. We lived there two years, and it resulted in some of our most memorable travel experiences. Hope you guys have another fruitful, exciting new year!

Have really enjoyed your videos. We’re recently retired and about to venture on our first long term trip(6 weeks in Nice, France). I must say we’ve gone on 5 1 week trips in 2022 and spent almost your annual budget doing it(WTF, I know). But you’re teaching us to do it better. Thanks for Sharing Carrie and Brian!! We were turned onto you two over summer by a fellow nomad while in Bulgaria, and have enjoyed your videos.
We are going into our fourth year now of full time travel. Having sold it all as well to go minimalist and nomadic at the end of 2019. Our focus has been our website but we are finally trying to share more of what we have learned from being nomads on our channel.
Our 2022 costs to travel were very close to yours. We were stuck in the states for four months spending way to much on rent while we dealt with some major surgery and health issues (despite being young like you two). You can absolutely travel full time on your budget even with some big costly set backs like we have had this year.
Thanks for spreading the news and inspiring others to seek experiences and not things or bigger stuff! Slow travel can be stressful at times but also, so very rewarding!
We are headed to Portugal next week to start out next 8 months trip in Europe. The original plan was SE Asia, maybe we will see you on the road sometime.

Thanks guys - really informative video. Would be interesting to see how you research the airline costs as you managed to keep them really low. Also, the ‘other’ costs bracket was quite low - presumably you’re not eating out much?

Hi, Russel. We will be doing a video in the next few weeks on how we research our airlines, Airbnb, and other transportation. You are correct, we don't eat out much at all. In Croatia, we only ate out 1 time in two months. We understand that food is a part of travel and we do occasionally eat out but keep it to a minimum as much as possible. Of course, that will all change when we head to SE Asia next week. 😀 Thank you for watching and have a happy New Year!🍻

It is nice seeing someone else doing the same thing we are, we have been traveling since my retirement in May of 2022 and have been operating in a very similar manner as you. We are traveling on a basic budget of $2,500 per-month, although we did have several big ticket "bucket list" locations/activities that we wanted to hit the first year, but we set money aside to allow for these. This year is looking good budget wise, currently we are on our second month in Thailand, in Chiang Mai at the moment, going to Phuket next followed by Siem Reap, Hanoi, Da Nang, George Town (Malaysia), Kuala Lumpur, and finishing up in Portimao before returning to the US for a little family time.

That sounds like a great trip! Staying within $2500 in SE Asia is a smart way to travel. It allows for big-ticket expenses as you choose. We did the same thing with our Ha Long Bay cruise and smaller excursions like Maya Bay. We plan on returning to SE Asia in 2025 to explore Siem Reap. You will love Vietnam!! Safe travels!

Happy New Year Brian and Carrie, this summary is awesome. I am not sure how you managed to keep the travel cost under 5K for the year. We don’t travel full time but a single air from NA to Europe seems to cost around 1200 per person.
If I may ask, how do you choose a good accommodation ensuring it’s safe, clean and fits within budget. Great if you could shed some lights on this.

Great video, except I think it might lead viewers to believe one person can spend half what a couple spends and that just isn't true. The largest expense is usually accommodations which tends to be almost identical whether it's for one person or two. In other words, if you spent $1000/mo. on an Airbnb, the cost for one person would likely be close to that, not $500/mo. Other than that, costs for food, transportation, insurance, etc...can be broken down per person.

    • @BrianandCarrie

Hi, Linda. Correct and sorry if there was any confusion. We have actually looked into some hostels that we have discovered to be very nice in many locations. But as you mention, we could pay $30 a night each or get an Airbnb or $60 and have more room and our own bathroom. So yes, you are correct. Unless you are willing to stay in a hostel as a single traveler the cost will be a bit higher. Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. We really appreciate the support!
