I have never considered this a bass solo, cuz Cory is playing the funkiest chord I have ever heard in my life, so that’s what I focus on. But very nice job! Nice tone
sounds great, adds to my sympathy for all the bassists who can absolutely rock out but end up having to just play the roots of the chord progression again and again. It’s like giving buckethead hot cross buns
One of the art forms for a GOOD busy bass player is finding spots to shine that enhance rather than step on anything. You'd probably be surprised listening to most isolated bass tracks just how busy we are. Framing and passing notes are great examples of ways to by busy that pretty much no one but a bass player can hear. Robert DeLeo from STP is really good at this. His bass lines fit SO well, you really cant hear all he is doing even as a bass player listening for it. Try learning a STP song though. "Wait, he is doing WHAT here!!??" So, I would argue a bass player who just rides the root is #1 still learning their craft, #2 is dealing with a guitar wanker band leader who demands they just ride the root, or #3 comes from the "serve the song" camp of bass players who chose bass specifically as a supporting instrument and are not on stage to be noticed.
