    Adam, Brother this Tribute Carbo Cub for the Flying Cowboys is outstanding. I have watched the video 10 times and finally decided to comment. I want to make one myself but it may take me a while to get it together due to the cost. After pricing everything it is 1.5k which would make it the most expensive plane in my hanger. I already have some of the parts needed but I want to make an perfect copy of yours with the exception of little Cory. I have a Local Pilot that is a Airforce combat veteran who owns the Carbon Cub SS Bush plane that I will honor but putting his likeness as the pilot. I also have a local Wood Carver that will make the pilot for me. He is very good and enjoys a challenge of working from photos. The bass wood bust can be added to any body type and can be painted. I also know a lady who makes dolls that is willing to make the body for me. I can ask them to also make Sandra Patey if you want and see how much is would cost. The wood carver wants $120 for his carving, The doll lady said she does not know depending on the clothes. The leather jacket my pilot wears cost me more I know but It is worth it to me. Again awesome work Adam and you have inspired me into being a better modeler. Thank You.

      Thanks very much my friend. Very kind words. It was a fun project. It is pricey to outfit with good equipment, but good equipment saves a lot of headache. It is on the heavy side, but lighter tires than I used would help. It flies awesome, just not like a floaty foamy. Man I miss when all the Flying Cowboys were posting bush flying vids. Trent is really the only one left that posts that kind of stuff. Mike's build vids are fun though. I actually have a Barbie doll that resembles Chandra, just got to get her in there. If you get to building one, I look forward to seeing it!

    I just put mine together- I added a 16x7 prop as well. When I ran the recommended 16x10 through ecalc it showed too much current through the motor. I wonder if anyone has burned out their motor using the suggested prop

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  5 місяців тому +1

      I'm not sure. There are variables that ecalc doesn't account for in many situations. That is one of the things I like about the planes I have with telemetry. I can see exactly what I'm pulling amps wise through the whole flight, and exactly what the temps are.

    • @aaronbaird8966
      @aaronbaird8966 5 місяців тому +1

      @@ModelAV8RChannel yeah and ecalcs numbers say 15 seconds or more of full throttle pulls too much current.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel

      Keep in mind it will unload a lot in the air. I sent a watt meter up one time in my Pitts, unloaded over 10 amps in flight vs on a static pull.

    I still feel the flaps aren’t large enough to slow the airplane down enough. I also want to put some washout in my wing.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  9 місяців тому

      Slows down fine to me, of course it's almost 14lbs, so it won't be like a Carbon Z Cub for sure.

    • @terrencejackson4587
      @terrencejackson4587 9 місяців тому +1

      I’ve seen more people destroy theirs by either ground loop or tip stall. I did think some epoxy and paint my firewall and wing box joints.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  9 місяців тому +1

      I haven't really paid attention to what others are doing with it in a couple of years, but that is par for the course with a lot of planes. Smaller flaps don't cause ground loops and stalls. Poor technique and execution does. Quite a few folks expect foamy handling out of a balsa plane, and get surprised when it doesn't. I test what any plane will do slow up high first, stall it several times, and from there I know what I'm working with.
      Oh and yes, adding a bit of glue to the firewall, battery box, landing gear mounts, and wing cradle on any ARF is a great idea.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks. Propping down is easy. Just a matter of how much power do you want to make and why. There is no danger of course as far as amps as those will go down. We explain our reasoning in detail in the video.

    • @VTOL1973
      @VTOL1973 6 місяців тому +1

      Make sense and yes I m all about scale flying above crazy vertical so I’ll try that since I have a bunch of 16x7 and 16x8
      I assume the curve is just a straight one from 0 to 80% nothing fancy ?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  6 місяців тому +1

      I actually brought on the rpms a bit early in the curve to make it feel more linear. I didn't want to have to move the throttle too far just to taxi. You'll kind of have to feel it out and experiment to get it like you want it.

      How did you balanced it ? I just finished mine with Avian 80a and Power 60 EF using a gensace 6s3300 and it’s super nose heavy even with the battery moved back against the screw, about 100 mm ( not like yours at 115 ) not a big deal as I can move it back further and make a new hole but I was just wondering if you had to modify yours in some ways without doing that battery move ?

    Hey Adam! Great video...I'm doing some research before buying my first extra-large scale RC plane (Draco is my largest to date).

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Рік тому

      Hey man. I think it is 1/16. It was a process for sure. It took us about an hour and a half to get it right. You just keep adding wraps, taking away, and testing until its perfect. Helpful to store the plane on a rack so the bungees are not supporting the plane while stored.

    • @gmorphan
      @gmorphan Рік тому

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Thanks so much for responding. I realize it's a tight envelope and there may be some tweaking to get it tuned. I did some tuning to my Draco too. Replaced the internal springs in 1 of the 2 "shocks" on each side with a softer spring from Ace Hardware. The result was a lower overall spring rate that allowed softer movement. That combined with the Kavan air tires and it's much easier to get smoother landings. Thanks again!

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Рік тому

      That is great man! Draco's gear is a complex design, and as good as HH did it, it needed a bit of tweaking. Sounds like you nailed it! That is what it is all about...glad you embrace the modeling side of model aviation. It makes it easier and gives you so many more options!

  • @Quandinis

    with the landing gear bungee, a method that might help others reproduce it could be to put some weight in or on the fuse and measure how far it lowers. of course there's variation in bungee cord and whatnot but it might be a good way to help others reproduce the same kind of result.
    absolutely love this cub.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much for watching and the kind words! That is a very good idea in concept. Really I think it would require that each pilot test and experiment to get the result for their taste...some may prefer a stiffer suspension...or less than I like. The tires used and weight will affect it as well. Different components/battery choices will make RTF weights vary. It took me 4 or 5 tries to get it like I want it. Part of the fun though!

    Outstanding work Adam. Hangar 9 makes exceptional kits and this one certainly ranks up there. Great engineering under the hood. Of course beautiful flying!

      Thanks David! Means a lot coming from you...the engineering on your F-14...awesome. I agree H9 makes awesome stuff. I do like to make them more serviceable than they intend though. They never seem to make getting to components as easy as I think it should be, and I'm one of those crazy "actually does annuals on his models" guys...lol.

      @Model AV8R Iv gotten the carbon z cessna flying, had a few successful flights last week. I was pretty stoked about that. Still waiting on the right conditions to get the aerobat out tho. Lots of wind in late winter/spring here in New England. I see the specs now. I looked right thru em cuz I couldn't wait to see the cub in action!

    • @ModelAV8RChannel

      Sure...I get them from Micro Fasteners. The part number is SMPPK0104. They are pan head sheet metal screws - #1x1/4. Black Onyx Phillips. 100ct.

      Hi Adam, hope you had a great summer & are doing well.
      Did the extreme flight tail wheel bracket require you to add blind nuts?
      Hope you still fly this awesome airplane.
      You videos and channel are outstanding. Easily one of the very best R/C flying channels.

    That's an awesome looking and flying plane, I'm dreaming about moving to America and buying one of them... But the whole awesome impression is spoiled by that awkward sound on landing when the tail wheel touches the ground... Is there any solution for it like hollow rubber tail wheel or some torsion spring for dumping this weird jumps of the tail?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching! It is an awesome airplane. That sound isn't the tail wheel, its the main gear suspension. There's a lot of moving metal parts, and it can't be tightened to the point of tolerance to make little noise as it wouldn't articulate correctly and be more susceptible to breakage. It's just the nature of the beast when you fly big scale balsa on electric power. Usually there is a nitro or gas engine that drowns that stuff out. With the electrics...you hear everything. Doesn't bother me, but I'm used to it.

    Just found your video today. Very timely since I’m in the middle putting the Hangar 9 Carbon Cub together. I was looking for a controller for wig-wag lights and there was your solution. Love some of your other mods, especially using the bungees in the landing gear. The stock gear seems so stiff. I’m using the RCGF 20cc twin for power . Hopefully flies as well as yours. Ordered one of Corey’s Flying Cowboys decals long before ordering the plane which inspired me to build this cub. Great video. I’ll be using some of your great ideas in my build. Hopefully turns out as nice as yours

    Do the small self tapping screws hold well ? Do you pre-drill, or does the self tapping point work well through the Polycarbonate?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for watching! They hold well. I tape the windscreen down, mark and pre-drill all the holes, screw the screws in, back them all out, remove the windscreen, reinforce the holes with thin ca, and after that dries fully install the windscreen. Basically the same you'd do when drilling and preparing holes for servo screws. It is really important that you let the ca dry fully...if not it can cloud up the clear poly-carbonate.
