Identifying that the word “seven” has 2 syllables (and potentially causing a counting struggle in a 7/X time signature) is why you guys are endearing to the masses. Brilliant!
The Beatles, especially Lennon's songs, had a bunch of songs with crazy time signatures. Two major examples are "Good Morning, Good Morning" and "Happiness is a Warm Gun."
You know what they say Ian, different strokes for different folks. This was a really cool topic to touch on! I've never really paid much attention to time signatures, but now I can't stop counting off when listening to my favorite riffs.
This is amazing. It makes entry to odd time signatures easier. You guys should keep it going. Go a little deeper into the more odd time signatures. I'm trying to get into it and you guys made it easier. I'd love to see more in depth and stuff.
I would love a summary of the different chord voicings! Like, there are so many explanations of the single voicings, but it would be amazing to see the differences between different voicings and how they work in one video! Keep up the good work!
This is an awesome video, it helped me a lot. Don't forget Badmotorfinger era Soundgarden, they really rocked odd signatures. Rusty Cage, Jesus Christ Pose, Room a Thousand Years Wide....
Great vid guys! I didn't know you were both fans of Soundgarden. Thanks for focusing on time signatures...it's still one of my weaknesses but this helped me to pay more attention to the "count" thanks again..Keep em coming!
Sean Daniel Radiohead are incredible. I was reading about the octotonic scale recently and tried to play it. It turned out to be a dead ringer for the riff in 'Just' from The Bends. Applying an unusual scale like that is one thing, but to create a memorable, concise and totally natural, flowing song with it is another. Amazing band. Brits, natch . . . :-)
H Kay I appreciate and understand your response. It's practical for working a song out by ear or feel. But that was addressed in the video. I'm asking about notation. Back and forth from 4/4 to 7/8 doesn't seem logical to me. So, would we notate the piece in 8ths?
Can you make more videos about when to play stuff then what to play because i feel like you have not talked about that enough and i think it is just as important
easiest way to think about it is with 7/4 it would be a quarter note (once) per beat 7 times. Where 7/8 would be twice per beat, also known as 8th notes, that's the feel if you like or a rule of thumb.
Ah, yes. Only true patricians would be familiar with all of their work! The signatures of Subterranean Homesick Alien, Pyramid Song and of course Paranoid Android are also quite.. odd.

Tom Spallone gotta give props where props are due: That was all Sean. See you Wednesday
Always happy to help Tom! See you soon!

That's why their the best.
I was always told that, to count out Spoonman, I could just feel the rhythm in my hands, then steal the rhythm while I can.
I always felt the rhythm all alone.

Definitely a great musical exercise.

Thanks so much! We'll be talking more about it :)
Hey you guys are right handed again lol! Really great and informative video as always!
Flippin it back around!
I would love a summary of the different chord voicings!

Great idea for a vid!
Thanks for sharing your ideas Sean and Ian.
You're the best Lee!
It’s so funny because I just learned that Radiohead song a few days ago and have been wondering about what time signature it’s in lol
Nice! Well now you know!

LOVE Badmotorfinger!
@@seandaniel23 Yeah but I just found out Jesus Christ Pose is in vanilla 4/4 time! omg. Must be those accents.

Will do!
More Zappa!! Just teasing, thank you for the videos, as always.
Haha, thanks for checking it out!
Pictures From An Exhibition? ELP.
Also, in 5/4 - Living In The Past - Jethro Tull, and of course 15 Step by the 'Head, as we call them . . .
Gotta love 15 step!
Sean Daniel

Time signatures and rhythm is apparently the most complicated part of music
It can definitely get tricky!
Stitch getting in on the Beato beef 😎
We know where his loyalties lie.
I've always counted The Ocean in straight 4/4 but they just switch up the accent to the "and' count when they sound like they skip a beat.
Yeah as long as it gets you in time there's nothing wrong with that!
Pretty sly clip on Beato reference.
Ian's a savage.
Cool tips, thanks guys!
Happy to help!
You can count in french...seven = sept (which has off course just one syllable!)
PLUS it adds sophistication.
Regarding The Ocean, maybe I missed it, if the front of the riff is in 4/4 and the back in 7/8, is the song written in 15/8? (8/8 and 7/8)

H Kay OK, Thanks, I appreciate the response. :)
Yeah definitely listen to H Kay :) I'm not an expert on notation!
The Boyz Are Back In Town
Yessir!
i miss DT in here...🤓or dixie dregs....pls can you do more stuff concerning odd timing and counting (for a drummer as well)?
great job as always!
Thanks so much!
Can you make more videos about when to play stuff then what to play because i feel like you have not talked about that enough and i think it is just as important
Yeah I need to start doing that more!
Thank you !
Happy to help!
I never understood the difference between 7/8 and 7/4. please clear that up! Great lessons!

How Many/Of What. Seven quarter notes versus seven eighth notes.
Thanks guys
You can notate ongs out in both methods, but the tempo needs to be twice as fast/slow when converting one method to the other..
Happy to help!
Guitar thugs at their best!
You know it!
2 sigs added together are a compound meter..
Yup!
H A Y ? ITs """ THUNDER and LIGHTENING "" Otherwise Known as The STICH DANIELS Band ? ol-west, U Know where I AM !
You know it!
Fuckin ay, man. I got a foot fetish.
Noice
I thought Spoon Man was Alice in Chains
We'll keep that between us.
Nobody knows this song? Dang Daniel, I know all of Radiohead's songs
Obviously people of sophisticated taste such as us don't apply. That was aimed at the masses :)
Ah, yes. Only true patricians would be familiar with all of their work!

.. ... .. ... . .. ...
Morse count!
Pink Floyd Money is weird.
Another good one.
I know this is a anti-RUSH channel, but you didn't mention them. Did you?
I believe we did :)
