Meh, I have an A4 with grayscale synapse for hooking into modular and still like the Rene. Great video though, my A4 is pretty much always doing something on my modular system, even if it's just an LFO on something.
Hi Nedavine .many thanx for these tutos .I'm interested into semi modulars approach . 2 mother 32 might sounds splendid. Do you know how to deal with having multi sequencers independant .For instance you Play the trigs on the Analog and the other Mother would have another sequence but clocked on the analog . Possible or not really ? Many Thanx
Thank you very much for those! For the cables from the a4 to the eurorack, i assume you just need a stereo 6.5mm adapter to 2x 3.5mm mono, is that right ?
+TheMSilenus I was wondering the same. 1st he says cv A to pitch, then he says cv B to strike. there is only 2 x 1/4 inch out from A4. Is it stereo out from CV AB ?
+IIHOGZBREATHII You need a splitter cable as mentioned above but yeah you can assign the CV to anything you like so if you want pitch and trig then assign it to that.
Hi. Thanks for the video... Finally got my cables to try this out but I'm coming up short. I have an STO and an Optomix. Going out cv a into the STO 1v per octave and the. Cv b going into strike. I only get a steady tone. The tuning is great and if I play a sequence it works great but the each note will hold on till the next note hits. Any advice would be huge!
Haven't got this to work well on the newer OS..... Is it possible to do an updated video. Ive read the manual just doesn't seem to work well especially the trig function.
I tried top hook up my A4 a Semi-Modular gear. The Soundmachines Modulor 114. I did exactly what you say. CV AB...Cable A going into V/Oct in my Modulor 114 But where does Cable B goes...you show on yours a Strike input. Mine doesn't say that...I'm constantly getting a sustained sound even tho i can play the Keyboard on my A4 i can't get the note to stop sustaining. Where does that other Cable go....
rhampton1914 this is because you aren’t running the oscillator through some kind of VCA. My first bit of advice would be to look up some tutorials on your sound machines system. Also there are a few modular 101 tutorials that are great for beginners to modular.
I play keyboards, I need something where I can do line of drums, bass line, line of accompaniment and solo line, and that I can vary the chords. I do not want something that is repeating over and over again the same chord, I want to make live songs with taste techno vincen clark :) analog keys, analog four...or digitaky? What is my machine? Thanks!
Hi Nedavine just wondering what OS version this is on as my analog 4 screen for Pitch v/oct is different than then one in this video i don't have middle c I have note1 C3? so am just wondering if this is an older OS version? if so what should it be on the updated version?
+Jamie Smith Yes it's a pre overbridge OS. The layout is a little different but a quick read of the manual should bring you up to speed. It does all the same functions just laid out diffeently in regards of pitch.
rene needs a lot of time educating with it - logic operations, all this stuff. once mastered it can't be substituted with the primitive a4 sequencer :)
I love my René and can't see parting with it any time soon. My comment was based on a few factors but was mainly meant to express how powerful the A4 seems as an external control surface for modular. Considering the type of music Nedavine makes, the size of his case and the fact he already has an A4, it makes sense that he sold his René. The comment was not meant to be a dig at René.
Excellent tutorial! All I need now is a modular synth. Hmmm
Can't thank you enough for these tutorials man, very nicely done, clear and concise..cheers..
finally someone who actually knows something
Nice video Nedavine.
very useful for quick overview, thank you!
Glad I have an Elektron A4- should come in useful when I build a Eurorack system. However, modular sequencers and samplers are quite fun!
Well done!
Very clear, very useful... big thank you
Nice tutorial. Thanks for this.
Good job!

awesome tutorial!! just wondering what is that black rack where you mounted the happy ending kits? thanks!
saocir Not sure what the brand is as a friend actually gave it to me. It's just a standard desktop 9U rack though. Amazon sells them I believe.
Yup! Good stuff! :-)
big smile when i recognized the kraftwerk melody
cool stuff bro! :-)
Nice ! Song mode can be applied to the modular part ? :- )
How should I set the A4 for the MOOG Minitaur ?

+IIHOGZBREATHII TheMSilenus Yup that's exactly right. Stereo cables out for the CV (A/B) and (C/D)
Nice!...but for now I would just be using stereo out of CV (AB)...for pitch and trigger. CV (CD) for other stuff when I get to it, right?
+IIHOGZBREATHII You need a splitter cable as mentioned above but yeah you can assign the CV to anything you like so if you want pitch and trig then assign it to that.

Nice overview.

Did you get it to work?
you made this 6 years ago, and I own now the MKII, but do I need the Behringer 960 + 962, as I plan to sequence with the A4? Thanks in advance !
so the CV track is its own track and doesnt chew/steal any sequencer-track from the 4 internal synths/voices/tracks?
Yep it’s a dedicated track so no need to give up any other sounds
@@nedavine but only 1 track?

Probably digitakt as it has more polyphony and sampling
Can we just use USB for CV?

can you use A4's effects when CV'ing the modular?
Yeah. The audio from my modular goes into the A4 and I can still apply chorus, delay and reverb.
Hey so are you able to assign the CV A/B seperately? I think i seen a splitter but i wasn't sure.
+Donald Lykins
Yes. It is called an "insert" cable.
I can see why you sold your René.
rene needs a lot of time educating with it - logic operations, all this stuff. once mastered it can't be substituted with the primitive a4 sequencer :)
Ilya M I think the A4 sequencer is hardly "primitive" it's certainly more "musical". Both are good in different ways.
