Their lives almost parallels the Jackson's? Both came from large families, faith was prominent in their lives, both groups started at a very young age, they were popular during the same decade and their fathers groomed them relentlessly, and both fathers were domineering. I think both the Osmonds and the Jacksons put on brave and happy faces for the world in those early years because they did not want to disappoint their fathers because the consequences may have have been just short of child abuse. I cried watching the brothers coming to terms with their upbringing, life journeys and with each other. They sacrificed much for us their fans. What a great price they have had to pay. Thank you so much for the music and Joy that you all brought to the world.

Rochelle Amadeo Donny and Michael said years ago that’s why they became very good friends..kindred spirits. When I was a kid during that era the powers that be made it look like they hated each other ..in school kids made into a racial thing..black kids the J5 white kids or in my East Harlem school it was the puerto rican Kids...Osmonds. I fell into the trap being a young black girl who loved Michael Jackson, we were told the Osmonds copied off the Jacksons and they must be hated. 🤦🏽‍♀️When I became an adult I learned it was all a lie! Both families were tremendously talented but emotionally damaged. Both families were controlled by their record companies and public relation puppeteers that created the phony competition.
Oh a fun fact.. their moms Katherine Jackson and Olive Osmonds share a birthday!
Great documentary but so sad 🥺🥺

As I'm watching this documentary about The Osmond Brother's, my heart ❤️ & soul is just aching and breaking for this family. Not just for The Osmond Brother's who perform's but for the brother's who're deaf as well too because dispite them being deaf they wanted to be part of the performing Osmond Brother's on stage with them, and then listening to their individual stories about what they're going through & what life was like for them at home & on the road. And here they were uplifting our own lives & helping many people getting through their own personal issues, yet The Osmond Brother's were going through their own issues & demon's themselves, their just like everyone else theirs human being's & they're not really being allowed to live & have as normal live's like most people get to have, I feel like they need lot's of hugs 🤗🤗 & I felt like hugging 🤗🤗 them all right through my phone, I feel like telling them that they're loved ❤️ and appreciated and everything is gonna be alright & tell them that nobody & nothing is ever gonna hurt you guy's ever again.Much ❤️ & hug's 🤗🤗 to The Osmond Family

@Anne Liesveld When somebody doesn't have a childhood, yes, they are damaged. That doesn't mean that they are locked up in an institution. But we are supposed to experience childhood to grow up to be healthy adults.

    • @marwatson7408
      @marwatson7408 3 роки тому +12

Anne Liesveld I think in some ways they were damaged one of the Osmond brothers wanted to be a Dr. and another one wanted to go into the Air Force and be a pilot and their father said No!!! I think it’s because the parents wanted to live off their fame. Donny and Marie have been on TV since they were like toddlers. I think the Osmond brothers were on one episode of the Lawrence Welk show (and I think a few more shows of the 60s) then Marie walked out she was about 3 years old.

@Anne Liesveld And they have childhoods. And children have no say in decisions made by their parents. What are they going to do? Say no? And the parents would say "Oh ok, then, no problem?" Donny started working at age 5.

Anne, obviously you were not watching or listening to what they were saying. They were tortured souls, all of them. God gave them a gift and their parents exploited it. The original plan was for them to make enough money to pay for Virl and Tom’s hearing aids. I think when the money started rolling in it was to good to pass up. The Osmond children payed the ultimate price. It’s truly a wonder they are as well adjusted in their adult lives.

Born in 1962 I grew up with the Donnie and Marie Show. Little Bit Country, little Bit Rock N Roll. I grew up Baptist but converted to the LDS church in 1983 just before my 21st birthday. I saw Donnie in person at University Mall in Provo in 1984 when I was buying a suit for my mission to Japan. All of the Osmonds had that million dollar smile. How could you be anything but 100% happy with a smile like that? Right? Well, from my own experience of trying to live up to the standards of the LDS church which makes it very easy to be hard on yourself for not being perfect enough, I realize the pressure they all were under must have been incomprehensible. I wish them all the best. I wish closure for them with each other and what they went through. I wish them health and happiness going forward. I wish them peace and rest.

Mormon cultists say "Be ye therefore perfect" because they believe they are "in progression to godhood". So they exhaust themselves on the Mormon Be-ye-therefore-perfect treadmill. They don't realize that Jesus came because we are all imperfect, but forgiven.

I wasn't a big Osmond fan, it was David Cassidy for me. But I did like many of their songs, and watched the Donny and Marie show as a teen. I hadn't realized how gifted they all were until hearing the singing here.
They are all sweet, earnest and insightful, and their stories are moving. I really enjoyed this.
(Footnote: my brother worked on Donny's car decades back and told me he was a good guy.)

I’ve loved the Osmonds since the 70’s. I’d go with my friends to watch the taping of Donny and Marie show. It was in their studio in Orem/Provo Utah area.
One taping had Andy Gibb as one of the stars visiting. We sat in the audience and I noticed their father, George Osmond sitting on our row!! Being there was thrilling. While our sweet husbands tended our young children.
May Heavenly Father bless them and their families continually throughout lives now!! -Sue Salazar

When I was in my early twenties I lived in Buffalo NY. I happened to be driving to work and saw a white limo drive into a place called Record Theater. I parked and entered the building to find the Osmonds. I walked down the line being pushed and shoved by fans. So when I got to where Wayne was standing I started to move on but he reached out and shook my hand and asked me how I was doing. A very brief encounter but his act of kindness to me has lasted a lifetime. I'm sixtyfour now. God bless Wayne hope he's doing ok now.

I didn’t realize back then, it was their warm harmony which touched my heart. Very sorry there was much pain & many burdens from being superstars. May the love & gratitude from all of us bring the Osmonds the comfort & joy they so unselfishly gave. Godspeed.

The original reason for the boys wanting to perform was very noble. and then they wished to help the older brothers with their hearing problems and education , which was wonderful of them. At some point as the boys ambitions started to change , their parents wanted to maintain the income and not have to be the adults and work ever again so the boys ended up supporting the whole family , and their personal lives stopped mattering. So sad.

@@gailhandschuh1138 To realize now, over 50 years later, the frustrations and anxiety the older brothers must have endured, while being basically "imprisoned" in their hotel and motel rooms, with their mother and father in the adjoining rooms, while scores of screaming teen girls were under the balconies and down in the lobbies, just waiting for them to emerge. It must have been worse than hell for them! Can you imagine 20, 22, 24, and 26 year old male performers being subjected to that" life" today?! Because that's how old Jay, Merrill, Wayne and Alan were back then.
