So.... I'm a 46 year old African American man this year 2015 and I'm watching this for the third time! LOL! I was born in 1969 but because my parents were hippies of the sixties I got a front row seat to all they went through and all the memories that made me feel like I was born in 59 and lived through the 60's If that makes any sense. My brother, sister and I were born right at that sweet spot in time when America was pumping out wonderful family acts like the Jackson's, The Osmond's , The Silvers, The Carpenters and such and as kids we love love love it! Our standouts was the Osmond's and the Jackson's at the time. Man!..... We couldn't get enough of them! I'll never forget the day Donny was passing through and stopped at our airport in Denver Colorado!........PANDEMONIUM! I was just a kid and I started to panic because I didn't understand why the teenage girls was fainting all over the place! LOL! I forget why we were at the airport that day but it got really really nuts! I even seen grown women screaming at the top of their lungs and crying!.... All for Donny! For some reason the rest of the Osmond's weren't there, it was just Donny and his handlers keeping him from getting torn apart. LOL! There was a time when this guy was like meeting god or something! LOL! It's the only way to explain it. Donny was mega huge in the early 70's. To go from that kind of love he had from the very start of your life to having no one want to deal with you must have been a real mental trip..... I do realize this is old footage now and I'm not lost on the fact that he is after all a millionaire so I'm not feeling for him in a money sense but rather a stigma sense of being born into show business and then having it all of a sudden ripped from you..... So glad he weathered the storm and I absolutely love reliving the memories. God Bless The Osmond's.

I remember when Donny Osmond:Superstar came out. I asked for it for that Christmas every day for weeks! I know I drove my parents crazy! You can imagine my joy when I opened that album on Christmas morning. Mr. Osmond was my favorite teen idol; one that my parents didn't have to worry about. It was sad when he disappeared. It was so great to see this interview. Mr. Osmond is no longer a teen, but neither am I. Thank you for all the memories you left me, and thank you for all that you have become.

To think that I and every other kid envied this guy so much when I was a kid. I wouldn't trade places with him for anything in the world. He really did suffer when you think about the overall situation. He lived a life without scandal and you have to respect the guy for that. I actually have a lot of respect for this guy and wish him the best, he deserves it!

Donny Osmond is one of the most emotionally honest persons (next to his sister Marie!) that I have ever witnessed in my entire life! I truly enjoyed this somewhat intense interview mainly because this man, Donny Osmond, can speak about his shortcomings and failures (which every man would prefer to keep perfectly private!) in such a forthright and disarming manner! Thank you Piers Morgan and Donny Osmond for sharing your time and insights for all the world to see! It must be very difficult to live in a goldfish bowl--where all the world can gawk and gaze at your rise and fall in life--and still end up smiling at life and adding that special spice of humor throughout it all! The bond between these two men reminds me of that famous statement of manly affection between Jonathan and David in which as the Bible puts it (was): "wonderful, passing the love of women"! Only genuine men, in my opinion, can express such emotional intimacy and not feel ashamed. Only REAL men can share their deepest feelings with each other without the need or fear of sexual or unnatural overtones! Thank God for such men!

I too was influenced by Donny at a very young age. I always liked the clean image he portrayed in an otherwise hard and dirty industry.
I wasn't aware of the extreme struggle he went through and although I am not a Piers Morgan fan, I really respect how tastefully he conducted this interview and especially when Donny asked him not to probe deeper on some questions.
I think the biggest thing I got from this, is that one must never give up... One must keep on fighting for the dream and learn that there is a time to let go of the negatives of ones past and move on to the bigger and better future.
Thanks for being part of my generation Donny, you are an even bigger inspiration to me today.

Donny is so honest and he is speaking from his heart. Im sorry you had to go through those bad times Donny but so glad you never stopped singing. I have been a fan since the 70's. I never got to see you in concert back then because the tour didn't go to Ireland, but I finally got to see you last year in Dublin when you and Marie brought your Las Vegas show to us. What a fantastic night at the O2. When you came down from the stage and sang "Why" tears rolled down my face. Marie was fantastic too

I was a charter pilot flying a small Lear Jet. I had a trip to take some one to Provo Utah in the mid seventies. Upon landing and taxing into the terminal I noticed a large airliner waiting to taxie in. The taxieway was only plowed with one narrow path large enough for my small airplane. The large airliner would have to wait till they finish plowing the whole taxie way. Upon going into the small teriminal it was full of people waiting for the airliner to pick them up. I found a seat next to a middle aged couple and in my conversation with him he informed me the all these people were all his familly. They had chartered that airliner to go to Atlantic City. Then I noticed Marie. I asked are you Mr Osmond. He said yes this is my family. I said I had a 10 year old boy that loves your show. He would be really impressed if I brought back and autoghaph of Donny and Marie. He said I will do better than that I will have the whole family sign an autograph which he did. What a great family of wonderful people.

I caught a lot of flack for being an Osmond fan. I had the glitter purple socks and the tee shirts and the posters when I was between the ages of 8 and 13. He was my Justin Beiber. It hurts to see how he was hurt by people. I found other bands when I was 13 but Donny was a special part of my tween years. I love him to this day and never was ashamed of it. He has talent coming out of his pores. Amazing dancer and singer. He's funny and the shows are terrific. So happy the rest of the public caught up to that fact. Donny is wonderful and inspirational. This was a very good interview about a very good man. About 20 years ago, I saw Donny play Joseph live (in Utah). That's when I fell in love with his voice and talent. I also got to see him live in concert 15 years ago; he was truly fabulous. I'm Donny's age, but truth be told I was not into him as a teenager, but I've been a huge fan ever since.

  • @jays1198

VERY interesting interview- He's obviously deeply conflicted about being in show business: on one hand he's determined to trudge on, while on the other that innocent pre-fame sandbox in Utah keeps haunting him-
I guess we're ALL wistful about our own lost innocence on some level... and being a sincerely devout person in such a generally superficial industry must surely amplify that sense of regret.
I for one, though, am thankful that there were and are truly good and gentle people like the Osmonds in the public spotlight.
    Bravo, Donny :-)

This was a good interview. and he made me laugh in the end when he sat on Piers Morgan's lap and sang Puppy Love. lol I will think of that now every time I play that song. ;) It is great that after all he has been through he still has a great sense of humour. We never stopped loving you Donny we just couldn't find any way to hear your wonderful voice except on the old LP's (by the way I wore out 4 sets of Donny Osmond Super Star. I have recently found some (old) new replacements so I can listed to it again. ;) And never listen to critics half the time they have their nose so far up in the air they miss the show. ;) If your fans were the critics you would have stayed at the top. ;)

There are very very Few celebrities that I would love to get to know personally... To have over for dinner, to have coffee with, to just be around as a genuine person...
And Mister Osmond is in the top five.
Yes he's hot (hotter than when he was young if you ask me) but as a Person; an Individual Human Being...
That's the Donny I would love to get to know. That's the guy I would love to have the chance to say I had met and become friends with. Not for a notch in the belt of big wigs I knew but as a genuinely lovely person Worthy of being friends with.
Not a lot of those around. Not enough. Wanted to hug him so many times and tell him I hadn't forgotten him. Nor have I ever been embarassed to admit I'm a fan.

In many ways, the Osmonds have sacrificed so much in their lives so that people like us can kick back and enjoy their gift of music and entertainment. Much of the outside world perceives people of high profile such as the Osmonds as "having it made" because they had $ and fame, when in truth, that's really all they had. I can't imagine being in their profession for 5 minutes, muchness 50 years! I give them so much credit for never surrendering their values and never losing sight of family first. They are truly a rare breed. God bless them and I'm so thankful to have been alive during this era to enjoy the gifts that this family poured into our lives.

AWESOME interview!!! I would say the difference between Donny Osmond, and a lot of (other) famous performers now, is that he had the values that kept him strong, and the talent to rise above his faltering career. I had a HUGE crush on him, and would kiss his photos in Tiger Beat magazine, and 16. I also kissed him on the TV screen. I also loved (And looked up to) the entire Osmond family, because they expressed such wholesome family values, and not to mention their adoring talent!!! I was a VERY troubled teen, and they helped me through some horrible times!!! Thank you so much Piers, and Donny, for allowing us to see this interview. And Piers, I really enjoy your celebrity interviews, because you allow them to talk about their down times, and explain what was going on in their lives. You treat them like (normal) people.

Excellent interview, so honest and painful. To imagine that every one of them would have given up the stardom, the fame, and everything that went with it, if they could have back 'a normal life'. I wish, sincerely that EVERY parent of a child star (whether music, or dance, or athlete or other prodigy) would watch this, and think. Think again...do you push and pull your child, really, for them or for you? Even when they 'say' they want it all - when that moment comes, on a plane, on a stage or where-ever, that they say "I don't wanna do this anymore", are you going to be parent enough to say "okay then we are done- done without regret", and you'll go home? If you can not say that's what I'd do for sure, and we'll set things up so we can back out graciously, any time, then don't do it at all. Thank you for this interview; I suspect lives will be saved. Peace

I never forgot Donny Osmond. I think if he would have put out softer love songs, he may have had better luck. His voice is just right for softer songs. I'm glad he is still around and hope he stays for a long time to come.

The last four minutes of this interview are so painful to watch but so honest. You can truly see how much his religion and belief in God have guided him and his family and is the glue that has held them together. Makes me very sad though that the Jacksons did not have the same strength because for so long the two families were really running neck and neck in the entertainment industry. I can so identify with what the narrating women are saying ... my name is Debi and I always said that Donny married the wrong Debi. I have been in love since the first time I saw him on the Andy Williams show ... he still makes my liver quiver when I hear Puppy Love or Sweet and Innocent :-). You have always been my favorite, even the lost decade!!

Great interview, but mad that Piers made him cry! I'm sorry he feels that he would have gladly traded his career for a normal life, but I totally understand it. But I'm so grateful he made the sacrifice and gave so much joy and happiness to so many people over the decades. He's made me so happy through the years.

LOL when Donny says that Michael Jackson said to change his name. Then Donny said he would have to change his face too. Maybe that is where MJ got his idea.

I would love to see more of the video where Donny says 'I'm Donny, and I'm a superstar!" I've never seen it.

Puppy Love, written and first performed by Paul Anka, Donny recorded it by permission from Paul.

Conquering Broadway doesn't happen in one show. You gave up too soon, too soon. You shouldn't have stop at one defeat. Why not have a little more faith in yourself to give up ONE TIME someone says something negative about you. I know it hurts but you could have conquered it eventually. I think you are still amazing Donny and have gotten more handsome then ever. You are sexy now where you were just cute then.

It's actually not that simple--what happens with a show is that the buildup is so big that ticket sales go sometimes a year in advance, but a couple of terrible reviews make people rethink their purchase and they canceled their tickets. So overnight the show went from having money to broke. It also makes the producers panic and they cut their losses by closing the show--it's extremely expensive to put up a show even for a night--salaries, insurance, rent--so they run while they still made a little money on it.
