    TESTIMONIALS
‘Started hitting the moves laid out in these courses the very next class...extremely uplifting to have such a quick improvement in my game’ - Houston, TX
‘I’m the only white belt in the academy doing these moves…I’m suddenly competing at a blue belt and above level…thanks Coach Tom’ - LA, California
‘Some of the best strategies you are going to see for control and submission’ - London, UK
‘The detailed way Prof Tom breaks down his moves into the absolute essentials is just next level for me. This is absolute gold‘ - Sydney, Australia
‘Most of the guys at my Academy, have about 60lbs on me, but since purchasing your ‘Kimura Attack system’ and ’14 days’ everything has changed. I feel much more confident, roll better and the guys on the mat have commented on the same. Thanks, Coach Tom’ - Dallas, TX
‘I know you have your names for your courses, but I’ve renamed them the ‘Zero to hero’ courses, I went from getting constantly owned, to now being completely dominant on the mat in no time at all’ - San Diego, California
‘I use the course material heaps, and just recently put it into action at a local comp, walked away with double gold. No one was more surprised than me! - Miami, Florida
‘As a new white belt, these classes have helped me so much, Prof Tom’s technique, the details, and his attitude. I love how Prof. Tom shows the ‘mistakes people make’ and then shows the correct way of doing things. The only one I have ever seen do this’ - New York, New York
Great videos, great instruction. I just watch them for hours…Melbourne, Australia
‘The instructional saved me big time at a recent comp, my opponent was def more experienced, but that was ok, coz I had Prof Tom’s video in my brain. Nailed it and scored gold’ - Colorado, Denver
‘All of it. Everything you show in your awesome videos are now my ‘go to techniques’. Thanks for your vids Prof, Tom’ - Houston, TX
‘You really have to watch every second of the video because Prof, Tom drops these little nuggets of gold throughout the course. And they make ALL the difference. The only one doing this. Keep them coming Professor’ - NY, New York
‘If I could only be taught from one person, Prof Tom would be it. I can’t wait to train in person one day’ - Dallas, TX
‘Went to a recent competition with these videos fresh in my mind. I knew I had an edge and the confidence this gave me was unreal. Got the gold. All submission wins! - LA, California

I've watched these 3 a bunch of times over the past two years. I just started trying it consistently this month. It's really interesting how this third setup is the one that I'm now most excited about. My 'game' usually involves Half Top -> Side Control and then -> simple cross collar choke -> far arm attacks (kimura, americana, straight arm lock) -> darce (like in this video) -> now I get to add another element, baratoplata entry from the 'failed' darce. This seems perfect for my game. I was trying this on folks from the guard, and I keep forgetting two important details: bury the wrist below the groin and go for an underhook/leg/head grip when applying the submission. I was ending up with my guard being passed, accidently applying a bicep curl, or other silliness. Thanks! Oss!

My teacher pointed out it's almost always best to learn a submission from the top, maybe later apply it from the back. Anyhow, yeah man, adding one more submission to the game makes everything so much better. Greater than the sum of it's parts.

I learned this from Rafael (Barata) Freitas back when he was instructing in Hawaii. Nice to see how it's grown in popularity

I like to catch this from failed armbars (when opponent pulls arm out) or from triangle setup if he starts getting posture on me. The first time I won a match at a tournament was with this technique.

Dumb (WB) question for you Coach Tom...@2:30 would it work if you figure 4 your legs? I'm guessing since you didn't do it, it wouldn't work that way? Thanks for making this excellent series and always bringing more experience behind the moves, than just "here's what you do".

Hi Todd, short answer is its best not to as you really need shoulder pressure and depending on the position hip pressure too. This cant really be done with triangle off legs but give both a try with a partner and get their feedback directly. The baratoplata/dorsal fin attack series can be tricky in real life so details count! (-: Coach Tom Davey

im always concerned that i'll lose the arm when im submitting. although its never happened i assumed it was because i keep my second knee (not the one over the shoulder) tight to their body. i notice when you do it you're not at all concerned the hand will slip out over your open legs and the arm straighten, so it seems its not an issue?
Thanks for the vids, i've actually only watched vids of catch wrestlers do this (they call it a dorsal fin lock), and some have quite interesting entries that you might find fun
    Cheers from Tassie

Awesome Ryder. I myself love catch wrestling and any grappling art to be honest. Happy rolling down there in good old Tassie! (-: Coach Tom Davey

@@TheGrapplingAcademy I'm wondering this same question, do you have an answer?

  • @bobnice3044

Hi the position at 1.56? would this work if you were to just throw your left leg 180 degrees round and over his body slamming your own back to the floor in the process and basically americana him? secondly would it also be a submission by pulling his arm out of the socket by throwing both legs over his body and standing up vigorously? i'm very interested in your opinion.

I can always theorize but will never advise things I do not consider to be an expert on. My answer: try both options but both seem to perhaps be too loose/troublesome. Find out! (-: Coach Tom Davey

The thing i find about grappling is that you spend two years or so training and think your getting somewhere then you wake up one day and realize you actually know nothing.
