Massive Abandoned Naval Base in New Orleans | DANGEROUS Full Exploration
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 вер 2024
- The abandoned Naval Support Activity aka the F Edward Hebert Defense Complex in New Orleans has been closed since 2012. It is a haven for the unhoused and graffiti artists but is also a major hot spot for drug use and violent crime. Filmed over several different days, we go inside this dangerous place to see what has become of it since it was closed and left to rot.
Disclaimer: Prior to going inside the city had gone through and cleared out the people living there so most of the spots we encounter inside where someone had set up camp should have been vacated. However there were still a few people living inside that we encountered.

This is a project I’ve been working on for a while now. We filmed this over several different days resulting in many hours of footage. This is one of the biggest abandoned places I’ve ever been in and it was amazing! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did exploring it. Thank you!
@NOLADEEJ one of my buddy's lived right next to it, I always wanted to explore that place but as I do most things alone, I declined for safety issues.
My name is Landin Petz, I live in Hammond but come to the city frequently. I write and produce short comedy skits and have a painting channel as well. I have a good bit of mobile filming equipment.
If you ever need an extra hand feel free to reach out. It would be really cool to explore places like this.
Me and my wife were homeless there for over a year..it’s beyond your wildest imagination
We’re both 14 months sober now..
@@user-ul3zy9ds5b I’m glad to hear that! I can’t imagine what it must be like to live there
I am very grateful for the experience. It was very very dark and desperate but I’m a much better human today because of my time there..I wouldn’t say I’d choose it again if I could go back..but I would have to learn humility, tenacity, resilience and the strength of the human spirit some other way and there are much worse ways/places to get that education.
My husband and I used to work there. Enjoyed working there until the building became costly to repair, so they moved us to another location. Miss the cafeteria, the food was great.
I was stationed here from 1993 - 1997. I work in the building closest to the road. It’s so sad to see it like this now.
I would love to have seen it before it shut down
It was a lot different for sure. The elevator doors worked. lol it was well maintained and cared for. The area was still just as bad though. I’d like to see it now but I know it would be very emotional for me. I met my husband in that building, it was the first place I took my son when he was born. That building is a huge part of my life. 🥲 I thank you for showing it now for us. I have some story I could tell you for sure. lol.
Very cool! I worked there years ago. The brown door with the Danger Authorized Personnel Only was the electronics workshop for the FBI in NOLA. We used to bring the cars up the back ramp and back them into the workshop to install the radios and sirens. In the back part towards the windows were the workbenches and equipment! I passed by that old scale every day on my way to get coffee from the cafeteria. Later, I was back on active duty working in the Comm Center. That place was a warren on the good days! My Dad told me one of his first jobs as a carpenter was gutting some of the floors to be renovated into office space! That would have been 72 years ago!
Wow that’s awesome!
Majority of this place was the MEPS station. It was the processing station for people going into the military. All the military branches main offices were here. New recruits were brought here for physical exams, taking the asvab, they were sworn in, got their jobs assigned here, all the paperwork was done here. When it was time to go to boot camp, they left from here. There was a very big cafeteria, a naval exchange/mini mart shopping area, medical center. It's a shame to see it like this.
Yeah I would love to have seen it in its prime for sure!
I processed through MEPS here for the Navy in 1999. The most uncomfortable part was “turn your head and cough” 😂
Lol I was there for the Army in 2005, and still they had us doing the duck walk and of course turn your head and cough...
@@catahoulacadre7052 I came a year after, 2000, I don't really remember turn your head and cough, but I remember the duck walk in your underwear. We had to go through the most embarrassing gyno exam ever!
😊😅😊😅 we sure do have a blast. Every moment is full of curiosity. The bonds we share and the way our humor flows through the ground is unmatched. Fun times!!!!!! 🎉❤
So true!
Wow! I worked there, as a civilian, in 1988 for about 6 months. I remember the cafeteria chairs. Why not tear it down and redevelop the area?
At the very least repurpose the buildings. They’re in solid shape
It’s crazy how talented some of those graffiti artists are. They should be paid to make murals in towns.
some are!
my thoughts exactly.
Very impressive! I’ve seen this place throughout the years, I grew up here but didn’t even know it was abandoned until I went to visit my son, who lived across the Industrial Canal on Jourdan Ave… we walked over from his house, across the canal, to the Church’s Chicken on St. Claude. I saw the place and said “whoa! What happened to the Naval base?” He said “Dad, it’s been closed since Katrina…” I live in Metairie now, so I didn’t know. i had always wondered what was in here, so I appreciate your time and effort to do this. Y’all are a lot braver than I am! 😊
Thanks so much!
Sad thing is that the Navy gave this property to the city of NOLA. And they let it just fall apart.
I seriously hope y’all conceal carry when doing these trips, especially in new orleans.
I can't remember much of this explore.... how long has it really been since we were last there? Good video DJ. Wish you added more!
Very interesting 👌, can't believe this is right here in our own backyard. This needs to be a movie
It’s been used in quite a few movies and series
I really hope it doesnt get destroyed and renovated. This is an amazing historical land.aek and should be treated as such
I'm loving this video. Great Job. Thanks for sharing it with us. Stay safe always.
Thank you! Will do!
Is this the old Algiers Naval Station in Algiers?
No, this is on the East Bank, it’s right on the river by the Industrial Canal in the 9th ward. West side of the canal.
No, that’s still there and in use I believe
Not gonna lie, there was a lot of cool stuff lying around, I'd be tempted 😅
Haha yeah, but we never take anything just document the place
@@NOLADEEJYou guys have integrity!
All the time and effort you and the others put into this exploration was worth it. You put together a very interesting video. Thanks, Deej❤
Thanks so much!!
Nav Res Red Com was there till 2009.
Interesting to see places where I live at being explored. Good that you have a group with you in case you run into homeless or less legal activities going on. Y'all look like you're having a good time, which makes this video more fun.
Yeah we make sure we are extremely cautious and careful but also like to have some fun too 😁
Sad to see the amount of history being destroy like this. The mayor of this city needs to go. New Orleans has been done for a long time. To much damage to a city to fix. I live right out of New Orleans and work in the French Quarter.
Lol loved it ! Lets find the bunker!
Yes!!!
Was there 2008 as MarForRes Safety
There wasn't any security gard
Impressive.
Could you consider having any text displayed for longer on the screen?.....please.
I will do my best to
That was a crazy one!! 👏Jenn
It was pretty awesome!
Didn’t they have some girls remains found there back on 2020?
yes, unfortunately they did
@@NOLADEEJ damn I knew it looked familiar truly heartbreaking
Heyy love the content! I'm down in NOLA for a week, I was wondering if you want to meet up and explore?
Possibly!
Some of that art is incredible, such talent. Too bad it’s in a place where it can’t be seen. It is also a shame those buildings can’t be made where the homeless can safely use it. Love NOLA. Stay safe! From Texas.
I agree!
The homeless are literally destroying it. They are carrying off all of the metal for scrap, so making it livable seems like a waste.
What was so terrible to have violence and children warning??? All I saw was trash, garbage, graffiti, and destroyed furniture and walls.
There was quite a bit of inappropriate graffiti and some language used. Just wanted to let people know in case they didn’t want their kids seeing/hearing it. 🤷♂️
is it illegal to explore? how to get in without legal problems?
If you can get permission
did y'all get permission, and if yes, how and what were the requirements?
So good!
Thank you!
That was Great!!!!!
Thank you!
Why do I remember you going awhilembay
We’ve gone quite a few times lol
Just think. If we'd quit sending all of our tax dollars overseas they could refurbish these places to house the homeless. Imagine that.
I'd love to fly my fpv drone there!
That would be awesome!
I enjoy this video bro
Thank you!
@@NOLADEEJ your welcome
Interesting
Y'all be safe
Always :)
Late to the party on this unfortunately. 1st question is you ever notice they always find money's to build these structures, but none to demolition them? 2nd question what will DJ actually do if the elevator door actually does open? Inquiring minds wanna know 😂
Haha maybe I’d go inside of the elevator if it opened…. Maybe not. Lol
1994 worker there.
Get home and have a hot shower, Deej.
Hah!
