That was genuinly incredible. I think one of the most brilliant, special new music videos I've seen. I'm so excited for the album. Danny making a totally uncompromising solo album really is something I wished would happen, never would I have expected the circumstances. There's no better time!

Oh my god, this album is gonna have 18 tracks. I was worried that half the album has come out, but nope, there's still so much more coming. Also, the last track is titled "Insects", and I pray to god that it's a remake of the Oingo Boingo song.
Of all the songs he would have remade I would have expected “Insanity”? Maybe he’s just really scared for a future where he would not be allowed to eat any animal protein other than insects... that would cause widespread zinc-copper imbalance unless everyone takes zinc supplements.

I think so far sonically and lyrically this is my favorite song from the album. I love all of them, but I think I connected with this the most.

Reasons I hate the flipping covid pandemic:
1. Deaths and illness and quarantine etc.

He was originally just going to play these at Coachella without warning. Imagine being in that audience. The album is 18 tracks long though so Covid has made him busy and I'm glad to see it. Hope he takes this on the road.

There is something completely unsettling about every single shot in this video and I absolutely love it
My first instinct was that it was statues of him being torn down because of cancel culture and all that. I mentioned my interpretation to him on Instagram and he said he hadn’t thought of that but he seemed to like my idea of what it was about. Knowing what we know now, no wonder... I knew it. Even though he was pretty low on the list of old White men I could see getting cancelled - seriously I could picture him as a serial killer before I could picture him as a sex pest... Even if it was just his subconscious (or his female art director’s- she’s totally sexualizing him) coming up with random dreamy stuff, it came up with this particular imagery for a reason.

Growing up on punk rock and having Epitaph being an influential label in my musical journey seeing Danny Elfman signed to them makes me so happy

Man... just speechless. Danny is a true treasure, indeed.
I was in Century City and we were doing this Midnight Student Film Festival, back in early 70's, and this strange group, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo was playing when we got there. I peeked in and watched the show in amazement. Saw this red headed kid and asked him if he was the leader of the group (around 12 people, men and women) and he said his name was Danny Elfman. I asked him if he also wrote and arranged the music, and again, he said yes. I then told him he was going to go very far as it was some of the most original stuff I had heard in a very long time. Mind you, this was the 70's, and new and creative music was coming out every day, but Danny's music was on another level. Happy to see he never stopped pushing the edge of the envelope.

For all the songs released so far from his new album, I think this is my favorite. The video has nods to Joel Peter Witkin’s photograph “The Kiss” and Aphex Twin’s “Come To Daddy” video (with a similarly glitchy electro sound to the song), and even kind of self-references the 1994 Boingo album cover with the degraded Madonna & Child as Danny’s self portrait. I think a lot of younger people know Danny for Nightmare Before Christmas, but his darker side has always been around. Listen intently to Oingo Boingo’s earliest couple of albums and you’ll find upbeat pop rock with subtler undertones of self loathing, paranoia, longing, and dread. His film music (particularly his early Tim Burton scores, where I believe he was given more artistic freedom) was often either giddy quirkiness (Pee Wee) or gloomy (Batman) and sometimes even sad (Edward Scissorhands). This new work, while maybe a product of California lockdown measures, is a surprising full-on expression of angst at this point in his career. If that’s the case, someone on the west coast lock Danny up in a recording studio and we’ll see what we get in 2022.
I want a new version of Weird Science where he actually gets to design the video as part of his next album. The album art could be full of his x-rays since he had long ago started working on a full-body x-ray art project (he was an amateur radiation biologist as a kid and still obsessed apparently) but instead it looks like he’s just working on a load of crappy remixes of Big Mess for his next album.
This definitely feels NIN. Interestingly enough, Josh Freese played on the drums, he worked on NIN stuff. I've been loving Danny Elfman and Oingo Boingo since I was about 11 or so, around the early 90's. Probably before that too, cause my older brother was heavily into bands like them. Probably why I grew up so strange haha.
Josh Freese is also the drummer in Devo, fellow New Wave legends along with Oingo Boingo
And then, a few months later, NIN and Danny Elfman collab to make another version of this song.

Fricken rad, and actually more punk than 90% of what is eventually labelled punk today. At this stage of operations, every single published song from this record is a banger in its own way, with the common point of being as dark as full of twisted playfull creativity, with cool odd n' arty videos, and with Josh Freese (whose 2 records are great too) killing everything behind his drums. I never though such a return to the roots would have been such a success, artistically (Oingo Boingo was a long time ago), but every track here screams masterpiece.
I could not have said that better .... Danny has transcended whatever he achieved with Oingo Boingo OR his amazing film scores - This new work is stupendous and shows Danny has integrated his various past musical selves into a fcuking powerhouse of rock music creativity. 5 amazingly powerful songs and 13 more yet to go ... Brilliant stuff ... Beatles/NIN level brilliant
I came to this new Elfman stuff through a convoluted route. I had not really heard of OB before so I've been listening back to it and while they have some good songs, most of what I've heard is too poppy for me. This stuff is top-shelf though. Really looking forward to the album.

Recent Danny vids definitely have a bit of Aphex Twin vibe to them. Great song though. Glad to see him doing what he does best again. That is, express himself in ways no one else has been able to pull off and still sound incredible while uniquely being himself at the same time, no matter which genre it plays into.
