That's why Mariah hated her experience at the show because she thought she will be given more freedom to work with the contestants to improve their artistry and vocals.
Is so clear that Mariah is a very smart person and she knows what she is talking about because well she is MC!! But she is mentoring in a good way and knowing from experience. If I remember correctly, Mariah is talking about vocal stuff AND performance stuff. Not every minute of every performance has to be this showstopper boom-boom-pow performance with big flashing lights where the singer is going all out, belting out all these notes and doing a lot of runs. According to Mariah, most big vocal songs require a musical progression to the climax and that restraint is the key. Nicki disagreed, saying that at this stage of the competition everything needs to be moving at full throttle
Disney Princess. The contestant Angie had a persona of being this cookie-cutter princess that she was trying to shed by diversifying her song choices and vocal performances. Nicki was glad to have her stay in that box because she felt like it worked. Mariah understood the need for change and well-roundedness and likely sympathized with Angie’s desire to not limit herself.
Randy kinda agreed with Nicki on the Princess part. Keith didn’t agree with Nicki on the Princess part but he also didn’t feel like she sang like she should’ve.
What i understood, basically what shes saying is that when performing a song there should be a build up, a climax. If youre at the top of your range for the entire song, then theres no place for your voice to go anywhere and it isnt appreciated as much. And I believe nicki had gave her critism about not singing at her fullest the entire song, which mariah disagreed with by saying that statement.
Let's just say Nicki's task when contracted was to be disjunctive just for ratings. And Mariah was already irritated by that (Nicki talking over Mariah's rushed speeches, making faces, weird critiques)
