I really appreciate your video. I have been looking for a tarp to keep in my day pack. Been caught too many times out hiking in rain, hail and just nasty conditions without shelter. I have been looking at many different tarps and you have helped me make up my mind. Free Soldier it is.
I saw your video a few months ago when I was looking and considering a tarp for backpacking. Long story short I invested in 2 of these and I absolutely love them.
I subscribed and like because you took the time to share your learning and wisdom. I am over 61 ,,,, Still live and breathe in Alaska.,,,,, again .. I did learn about this tarp from your time. ,,,, Thanx 4 ur time.,,,, No need to reply ,,,, I don’t…. ! !!!
Great tarp for tarp tent pitch and for enclosed pyramid pitch. I'm claustrophobic so I like the more open pitches except in heavy rain then I batten things down.
It's a great tarp. I've had for about a year and have had no problems with it...but it can be a pain to get it back into it's stuff sack. Thanks for the sub!
Nice review. I am looking for a good light weight tarp for hammock camping. So far it is DD hammock's tarp but this one had my attention now. Thank you for the video and your service.
You're welcome for both. I have used this tarp a lot over the few years I've had it, through heavy winds and rain, and it has held up well. No rips or tears. A very durable tarp.
Thank you for sharing your setup. I'm going to use that next time I head out. I'm going to set it up with no hammock and just sleep on the ground on my pad. Thanks so much.
Thanks for this. I have this arriving tommorow and am eager to use it with doors like you. I had to watch your video a few times and it's really helped Me to remember 😁
You're right. Unfortunately, it is pretty bulky and because of it's material and coating, it will stay that way. It is next to impossible to get it back into it's original stuff sack. Two things I have done: Use the stuff sack for something else and get a bigger one at you local sporting goods store, or, instead of trying to roll it up into about a foot by 6 inch roll, make it a longer roll. Don't fold it up so tight. I've gotmine down to a roll of about 18x3 and strap it to the outside of my pack. It is not silnylon or that other really light material (can't remember the name at the moment), but it is much more durable than those. Good luck and thanks!
It is definitely tricky. It's easier if you make sure the smooth side of the tarp is facing out, but in the long run, I just ended up getting a bigger (and mesh) bag. Hope this helps. Thanks for the sub!
Nice instructional video, Sir. Thank you for your service, Sir. As a fellow, and former, Navy Sailor (I was an old GMT, turned GMM from back in the late 80's, a Destroyerman, on board Addams Class Destroyers), I appreciated the K.I.S.S. instructions. How is that tarp doing now ? Is it worth the money ? Thank you in advance, Sir. Keep up the great work !!!
Thank you as well for your service. The tarp has held up very well, though I am not able to use it everyday, it has lasted for a number of years and is still going strong. So yes, in my opinion , though it is a little heavier than other tarps (it's polyester with a pvc coating) it is definitely worth the money.
@@anoldmaninthewoods2548, thank you, Sir. I have an Aqua Quest Defender (10'x13') which weighs 4 lbs. It is completely waterproof, and over the years, it has held up. I was just looking for something lighter. Thank you, once again. Keep up the great work !

Seabees can do! Great video. I just got the free soldier and have been looking for videos on different configurations. Cheers.
Thanks, Randy. I think you're going to like that tarp, it's my "go-to" tarp. Welcome aboard! Brian

Anyone know a way to make this tarp more compact to pack away, its a great tarp but bulky as heck, mine didnt have the tensioners though.

great video. what was your rate in the Seabees?
When I got out, BU2. (Builder Second Class Petty Officer). Are you a "fellow Bee?"
@@anoldmaninthewoods2548fantastic, I am a BU3 currently.
i'm a soldier, and i'd like a free tarp !
How do you get it back into the carry bag?
