I'm 70 and was obsessed by music for many years - but I've barely listened for 2-3 decades because I couldn't find anything that made me care. Then Dimash came along, and I found Snarky Puppy, Dirty Loops and a few others - and finally now, Ren. Chinchilla. Sam. Real voices singing with passion. Can't stop listening.

Her performance in this is phenomenal, however I would recommend checking out the studio version too as this completely strips out the amazing music for the song, which adds a whole other pulsating layer of menace to the lyrics. Chinchilla is amazing, well worth diving into her work
And also, I believe she did the production for the official version herself, so it's truly how she wanted it to sound on initial release. It's not the product of a record lable producer. The live version is how she wanted perform it a year later or whatever, with the limitation of only having a keyboard accompaniment for the performance.

The video is worth watching for the video's sake because she plays a multitude of different characters and she designs and often makes her own costumes (she made her hat herself in the video- the girl loves hats) and I love her unique style, even though it might not be my own personal taste. This version has a different arrangement and she added the line about the keys in the knuckles. This one is loads better in my opinion and really shows off her voice. Having it accompanied by just a piano was a smart choice as well. 🖤🖤💜 PS- the nails are about feeling empowered and she talks about them in the interview she did with Chris Liepe (sp?). Also, her discord is a riot and they are very opinionated. They hate it when people (reactors) mention the nails before mentioning her voice. Personally I don't really care. I think it's all about respect and it's been obvious from the get go that y'all have mad respect for her as an artist so honestly it's just all noise to me when people complain, and that goes for more than just Chinchilla and her nails. 💅 💙

I dove into Chinchilla a month ago before there were many reactions to her music. I watched the official music video for Fingers and went 'oh cool, she had fun with this video, interesting song.' A week later I found a reaction video for Fingers Live and I literally didn't recognize it as the same song as the one I'd watched - I watched it thinking it was a completely different song, and I continued thinking that for another week or so until I found a reaction video to the official music video, and my brain exploded when I made the connection. She had to adapt the song for this live performance with only a keyboard accompaniment a year after the song's studio release, and oh my god what an incredible version she gave us. Love that you're doing Elements too - it's the Chinchilla track I replay the most often, by far. Loved your reaction & comments & thoughts.

What I love about Chinchilla is the same thing I love about Ren. Both are incredibly talented and more importantly they both are shifting perspectives of our society. Chinchilla singing about strong women tinged with violence (even weaponizing her fingernails) and Ren with addressing mental health issues and illness with such vulnerability. I think it’s pretty damn incredible.
