I dont think ppl are inconsistent. I just think they are at least two groups. PPl in the groups that are saying don't change the race are either saying keep the roles as they are so POC can have a chance to book gigs or the keep the character that race or ethnic background because it serves a point to the person back story like Magneto being jewish. The ppl on the other side are saying its okay to change a character when their race doesnt play a role to a person background. Most Non-poc characters dont deal with any racial issues towards them or its not in their character back story so it should be okay to change that aspect because it doesnt change the plot. Most of those ppl issues can affect everyone equally. Ppl like savage Panda also like to "prove" other ppl are hypocrites. I think its the easy way out to say ppl are just being inconsistent. Not just for this argument but for most arguments in society. Its not that its just one group thinking one way and then changing their minds. It could be just another group is speaking out. And yes a person changes their minds. That is allowed. Im pretty sure you have felt one way about a topic and then later felt a different way just because u either was convinced otherwise or even forgot u even had the original stance. Why is it okay for you to do it but not for anyone else?
