Demis Roussos was from Greek decent and he was a 70's icon, heard his music every day on the radio and I think my mother had a record/vinyl of him with exactly the same picture as on your screen. You need to watch the TV video from the 70s in the red/orange kaftan to capture the setting of the times. His singing is like paint strokes on a canvas that flow from one note to another. He was born in Egypt and raised in Greece. He was a former member of Vangelis who is also known for this type of music.

Demis Roussos started out as a member of Greek band Aphrodite's Child before going solo in the early 70s. Forever and Ever was first released in 1974 and was a hit across Europe but flopped in the UK. It was released again without success the following year but in 1976 it caught fire and went all the way to No1 on the UK Singles Chart. Apart from this song, he will probably be best remembered for providing some haunting vocals to the “Blade Runner” soundtrack. The reason he appeared there is because he was once in a band called ‘Aphrodite’s Child’ with “Blade Runner” composer Vangelis. Check out the track “The Four Horsemen” from the Aphrodite’s Child album ‘333’. More heavenly vocals there from Mr. Roussos.
Demis was hugely popular all over Europe and the rest of the world but not the USA Goodbye My Love and Island In The Sun are two I remember well but he had a huge catalogue. I don't think you've done his compatriot Nana Mouskouri either and she has sold 350 million albums worldwide and recorded in many languages( maybe a female Friday pick). Try To Remember or White Rose Of Athens as a suggestion for her.
Hi Jay and Amber! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. Back in 1973, when I was just 5 years old, I couldn't understand why this song was such a big hit back then. It even got to No.1 in the UK charts, which was not easy at that time... but, now in my older years, I think I can see how it might have appealed to a lot of people. I just read a very interesting story about Demis on his Wikipedia, so I've posted it below... In June 1985, Roussos was among the passengers of TWA Flight 847 from Athens to Rome, which was hijacked, but he was released along with four other Greeks after five days while most of the other hostages remained there for 17 days. So, I guess there was much more to the guy than I thought. Æx 🙏
I saw him live in Dublin in the mid 70`s. I was very into rock and pop music but I became obsessed with Greek music around that time and he just stood on the stage and sung and blew everyone away . He was massive for a few years and I had several albums. I`m not sure about the correct pronunciation but I always thought that it you dropped the s at the end of Demis so that it was Demi but I kept the s at the end of Roussos. He was part of a very small group of Greek superstars including Nana Mouskouri and Vicky Leandros who sang quite regular pop songs but used the bouzouki and other traditional Greek instruments prominently in the arrangements. He was famously an incredibly nice person too which is not always the case with someone who was so monumentally popular.
Rain and Tears My Friend The Wind Goodbye My Love My Mum took me to see him Live here in New Zealand in 1971 (I think) when he toured here with Nana Mouskouri, another Greek legend.
My mom told me that my grandmother and grandfather used to dance to this song at home. She would be watching them while they were dancing and singing to each other in the kitchen in the middle of an afternoon. They were each other's soul mates and crazy in love with each other until my grandfather died at the age of 43. She never remarried.
🇬🇧 I remember when we first heard this back in the day. We couldn't believe that a man that looked like Demis did, could sing like that! We loved him, & this song. ❤🎶🎼👌
Demis Roussos was huge in Germany in the 1970s; back then, many foreign artists actually put out covers of their songs in German to reach a wider audience, and he was one of them. But imagine my surprise when I visited the US for the 1st time in 1997 -- over 20 years later! -- having breakfast with a friend at an Albanian café somewhere in Burbank, CA, and suddenly heard this song played *in German*! I had to fly pretty much halfway around the world to get that blast from the past?!? Oh-kaaay ...
there is one of his songs that it'd give you goosebumps, unfortunately , I haven't been able to find it in English, is in spanish and french, but if you listen it with subtitles you'll love it "I die besides my love" (Morir al lado de mi amor) Other great songs are "My fascination", "Good bye my love good bye", "My reason", these are great songs, still listening while driving and enjoying the Florida weather🤗🤗
Was 5yrs old when this was released in 1973. My dad's favorite singer and this song was his absolute favorite. One of my best childhood memories was of my dad always asking me to put the LP on the turntable (record player).... obviously before CD's. As a 5yr old at the time those memories are still fixed in my mind, I'm 56 now. Absolutely priceless
Jay & Amber. I don't follow your page but sometimes, when i''m in the mood for commentvideos (to get flashbacks), i ALWAYS look to your page! Born in 1968, (in Denmark and still very danish) and have been a DJ, i know A LOT of the music you are hearing for the first time and that gives me some sort of hope. Hit-music today isn't what it was in my youth. But this one!! Demis Roussos - Forever and Ever is one of the first songs that i actually remember hearing on the radio (when i was 5-6 years old). And everytime i hear it, my mind wants to go back that time. Everytime i do that, i feel liftet back to when everything was so much more simple, in my childish memory. Back to the music. A dutch guy made a, in my mind, fabulous dance-remix of this song in 2017 and some english guy made a video to it. They don't know each other but Matt Pop (the dutch guy) loved it. ua-cam.com/video/03TqOOwm9vs/v-deo.html

This is the song you play at your wedding or for the love of your life !
A timeless song.
His voice is angelic . RIP. Demis Roussos .
this is absolutely one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard!
Roussos.
Haven’t heard this in years. Reminds me of being a young kid in the eighties as my Dad loved the big Greek fella and played him a lot!
Demis Roussos. Descanca em paz na glória de Deus. 😇💜🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🍀⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Always love Demis Roussos songs ….so glad you guys played this great Oldies hits 👏
Æx 🙏
He has also: spring, summer, winter and fall. Another is: goodbey my love. Both very nice
Also by Demis, got to check out (live version) "My Friend The Wind" - totes amaze
The way he sings the near cracking in his voice brings me to tears of joy incredible
The epitome of the seventies. I miss him and his soft quivering voice. For us Greeks that lived overseas he was our pride. May he rest in peace.
Demis Roussos. ( Biltful music) Linda voz e canção que toca em nossos corações. 😇💜⭐🍀🌎🌹🎧🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
Rain and Tears
My Friend The Wind
Goodbye My Love
My Mum took me to see him Live here in New Zealand in 1971 (I think) when he toured here with Nana Mouskouri, another Greek legend.
My mom told me that my grandmother and grandfather used to dance to this song at home. She would be watching them while they were dancing and singing to each other in the kitchen in the middle of an afternoon. They were each other's soul mates and crazy in love with each other until my grandfather died at the age of 43. She never remarried.
New Zealander here my mother used to play the hell out of him loved Falling another great song
🇬🇧
I remember when we first heard this back in the day. We couldn't believe that a man that looked like Demis did, could sing like that! We loved him, & this song. ❤🎶🎼👌
A Greek Singer who during the 70’s was never of the TV in Europe and UK!❤
Ah the old Greek Tent Demis Roussos. Fantastic song, fantastic voice. It always sounded like he was singing a duet with himself.
That was heavenly indeed. 70s was truly the pinnacle of the music making.
I grew up in Europe and he was super popular there. There was great music in Europe.
still is
Jay & Amber.

Dancing with my mum when I was a kid. We had the most beautiful music. Great memories.
This is how reaction should be, bravo, lovely melody with melancholic voice
I just need to say that the both of you are so lovely people. Thanks for that!
Liked before watching! Yes, you found Demis Roussos ❤
You should have had a video! Demis was a Greek man who always sang in a voluminous caftan! He was like a big hairy bear with this high voice! As a teenager I couldn't see the attraction but women of a certain age swooned when seeing him!!! 😊 Now girls of my age then it was David Essex, listen to Hold me Close as his blue eyes twinkle! SWOON!!😊😂❤
He sang his songs in half a dozen languages. "Rain and Tears" was the big Aphrodite's Child song
Demis was polar opposite voice to Barry White...but both of their voices would melt ladies hearts(an more) and go all 'AHHHH'. It would have been great to hear them performing together and have supercharged vibration going on ....😂😏
He was amazing he sung in German also
