    (yes i'm binge watching your videos for the last 2 weeks, every night :D) but I just wanna point how different is the study of the law in Common Law countries and on the Civil Law countries (like mine). I also go to Law School here in Brazil and we never get to study the cases because here the law is always superior and precedents don't have "law power". I'm LOVING to see that difference!

    So how do you feel now that finals are over? Also, cold calling is key to becoming an attorney thinking on your feet for when a judge asks you a question.

    Hey! I know this is an old video, but I was wondering if you buy your casebooks and that’s why you’re able to write on them? And also if it’s possible to rent them out to save some money? I’m assuming they can be expensive

    • @LeandraYomo
      @LeandraYomo  3 роки тому +1

      hi! So I actually rent them and you can write in them even if it is just rented. I rent mine usually from Amazon but I know other places let you write on them too you just have to be mindful that someone else will be receiving your book and not to destroy it with highlighting and writing.

    hey leandra!! i find your videos sooo hopeful as a junior pre law? i’m curious? did you take any law classes in undergrad? i know that some schools allow their undergrads to take classes like business law or constitutional law. as a criminology major did you take criminal law at UC? hopefully this isn’t too long winded lol :) love you

      Hi! so I did take a law class in undergrad (American Law) but I know UCI offers more including family law, constitutional law. I just checked the catalog for undergrad criminology courses and it looks like they have Criminal Law there but I don't think they offered it during my 4 years there or I definitely would have take it seeing as that's where my interest is. Maybe they are changing it for the upcoming years.

    hi, do you use to pomodoro method or some version of that to get into the readings? I'm a sophomore in college and I want to start working towards the reading and concentration level needed to not be overwhelmed by the assignments! Also, you're work is amazing, warmest regards/best of luck to you and your's

    • @LeandraYomo
      @LeandraYomo  4 роки тому +2

      I never realized it until this comment but I actually do use a version of the pomodoro method except I time my breaks based on cases. For example if I have 14 cases to read I might do 4 cases and then a 5/10 minute break. It definitely helps to work on concentration and reading before getting to law school!

      @@LeandraYomo how long is four cases? like an hour and then 5/10 minute break?

    • @LeandraYomo
      @LeandraYomo  4 роки тому +1

      Adesuwa Wilson-Iguade it really depends on the case and whether or not I have to do the notes and how long those are. Some cases a like a page front and back with long/short notes. Others are like 5+ with long/short notes. Also depends on how long it takes me to understand the case

    So your professors don't emphasize on the Procedural History on Brief??
    I think it's important as Many Trial cases are Appealled or Certiori to the Supreme Court.
    Also a way that will help you grasp the cases is to read the case 1st & then see other case briefs via LexisNexis or Quimbee.

    • @gemalopez6885
      @gemalopez6885 4 роки тому

      @@LeandraYomo yeah, but many cases aren't directly held at the Supreme Court. They first go through Superior Court then Appeals Court ( if a party dislikes the Trial Courts judgement) & then if there's an issue in question for the Appeals it's taken to the Supreme Court. The majority of case law follows this patern, especially Torts & Contract.
      Maybe your school works differently. IDK. But generally ( that I know) it's important to know the Pro History.

    • @LeandraYomo
      @LeandraYomo  4 роки тому

      Gema Lopez there is definitely procedural history in the casebooks I’m assigned usually before the facts and the majority opinion.
      The issue is almost always why the case is being appealed from trial/appellate court to whatever court we’re currently in. Some professors care more about procedural history than others! For exam purposes they only seem to care about the rule and application to facts. I do read and always note what the procedural history is when I book brief I just don’t highlight it.

    • @gemalopez6885
      @gemalopez6885 4 роки тому

      Leandra Yomo I somewhat agree with you. But the issue ( as I learned) are what are the causes of action at hand, if dealing in Civil Court or what criminal acts, if any, in Crim.
      And yes for exam purposes you must focus on the rules & if the facts of the hypo given can apply to the BLLS. But keep in mind that case law is vital because if you become a civil attorney or Crim attorney & you want file a motion you need case law to back up your motion. Good luck 👍

    • @LeandraYomo
      @LeandraYomo  4 роки тому

      Gema Lopez totally agree about case law and it’s importance which I am learning and doing a lot more of that in my legal research and writing class! Like I said the importance of procedural history or knowing the entire procedural history seems to depend on the professor. My contracts professor cared and cold called a lot about it during the first week but not so much now. In civpro we’re moving towards subject matter jurisdiction and federal questions so the procedural aspect has been coming up more. Basically the important parts of my briefs mimic what my professors deem as important in class. So far the focus has been on the issue arising from the lower courts , the rule of law, and the application/analysis of that rule to those facts.
