Parallelogram - *A quadrilateral with 2 opposite sides that are parallel and are the same.* Rhombus - *A parallelogram in which all sides are equal.* Rectangle - *A quadrilateral that has all right angles in each of its corners.* Square - *A quadrilateral that has all right angles but it is smaller than a rectangle.*
@Don't Memorise, the difference between a square and a rhombus is, in a square both the diagonals will have equal length whereas in a rhombus they are not equal. Please add this point.

I have e a question. Why is the area of a parallelogram "base x height"? (base and height are perpendicular) Consider the area of a rectangle. That is clearly "base x height". No problem there. Let's name the sides: a=base and b=height. So, the area is A=ab. Now, picture this rectangle skewing into a parallelogram. The base doesn't move, only the sides rotate a few degrees to the left so that the sides (length b) are not perpendicular to the base anymore. The newly formed parallelogram has still the exact length sides as the rectangle, doesn't it? Its area has not changed, has it? Why isn't the area of the parallelogram A=ab, but A=ah?
I got it! The area does shink. We may visualize rotating the walls (b) so that they are parallel to the ground. b becomes zero and so does the area of the parallelogram. So the more you skew it, the more the area shinks. But the best way to see this: cut the right triangle of the parallelogram and move it to the left side. You've got a smaller rectangle! Beautiful!
You're most welcome. We are glad that you understood the concept. We are happy that we could help you learn. For more videos, please visit our website - dontmemorise.com/
