Over 100k of debt as a New Grad was pretty unheard of a decade ago. Now when I talk to new nurses it's a pretty common thing to hear this. The wages don't keep up with the debt or inflation. It's a very serious problem.
I do not know why Krizia got so many negative comments about the loans. People have different choices and as long as they are responsible for it that works just fine. She is so brave and truthful to share with us her struggle and how to combat it, and she didn't encourage any of you to take out loans T___T. I myself have lie 40k on my back to pay it off too. I was a NICU and postpartum nurse for 15 years and recently changed to hospice home care and I. LOVE. IT. I should’ve left the hospital years ago. Pay is not as much as the hospital, but it’s worth making a little less to be so autonomous and not stuck in a hospital running around for over 12 hours. If you love hospice, I don’t think you need to do acute care. Love the video! All the best to you!❤️
I tried inpatient hospice and just could not handle the charting requirements. Every shift felt like nursing school doing a giant care plan. The system they were using made it not worth it for me.

This is very nice video and very relatable. I appreciate the transparency. Stress and physical stress is also my concern in 12 hr shifts especially in the ER. And also don’t let the people that brag about the zero debt get to you, because every RN i have spoken to has said that they paid off their student loans of over a 100k in less than 6 yrs and that they do NOT regret it. Everyone’s path is different and that’s okay

Hun! We go through the same struggles! I am facing the same dilemma. All I know is that I am going for outpatient! I knew bedside wasn’t for me. I love working outpatient surgery. It’s been 6 months and lots of experienced nurses are transitioning to this! I am not going to kill myself working on the floor, putting my license on the line with the crazy nurse to patient ratio.
I'm an ICU new grad nurse with an associate's. I would definitely recommend getting acute care experience. I see how many options my tenured coworkers have. They frequently discuss offers they receive.
Thanks for talking about why you didn’t chose to work in the hospital based on the stress and anxiety that it causes. I’m debating my next steps in nursing and I feel like I NEED to be in the hospital to prove something to myself and to get that experience but if I’m really honest with myself I don’t want the added stress and going home with work still on my mind and causing me issues.
You may want to look at Home Health a few days per week because patients go home with IV's and TPN and drains, woundvacs etc and you can learn those skills. Hospice is a great place to start while you figure things out. The one on one time you get with each patient is rewarding. You can never get that at a hospital Thanks for being transparent.
Damn… education cost in USA is horrible. Luckily I got into state school and left with “only” $34k. I paid it off already, hope you got to do the same!

Thank you for being so straightforward about your income. I am planning to go to West coast in ontario this year and the loan scares me, but hearing about the income makes it better.
It is scary because it’s a big financial responsibility. If I am able to get a job in the hospital, I’m considering in working in hospice per diem or even part time to make that extra income! I’ve spoken to professors who advised to get a second job that isn’t as physically demanding as inpatient and use the second income to pay off loans!
Im about to take on 100k of debt for nursing school BSN but not really scared due to me currently making about $35,000 in Los Angeles and doing ok. I dont mind staying at my standard of living with roommates for a few years and paying big chunks. will work a few overtime shifts or at a med spa on the weekends doing laser. then when I can travel I'll travel. there is hope out there, My laser lady doin it currently.

IM CURRENTLY DOING MY NURSING CORE AT WEST COAST UNIVERSITY IN MIAMI, JUST GOT TOLD THAT AFTER STUDENT LOANS (FEDERAL) AND GRANTS I STILL HAVE A 3500 BALANCE FOR THIS SEMESTER, NOW I HAVE TO PAY $390 A MONTH UNTIL I GRADUATE MOST LIKELY (IT CAN INCREASE NEXT YEAR) AND I KEEP QUESTIONING WETHER ITS WORTH IT.

Hey! My payment is bimonthly. So I get paid from the 1st of the month to the 15th which is 11 days of work. Then 16th to the end of the month (another 11 days usually, depending on the month. I know In the hospital settings it is usually every 2 weeks

@@___kt93 yes! That’s what my thought process was. I didn’t want to keep waiting around. Paying off the debt is doable but will be hard! I do suggest that once you graduate, moving back in with your parents or staying home for a year will definitely help. Just make sure you have a plan on how you want to pay it off!

I’m currently refinancing my private loans to get a lower interest rate. Once I get that done, I’ll be making another video on monthly payments/plan on how much to pay!

I go to WCU too (class of jan 2022) I hate hearing those stories from other people about how they have no debt as a nurse! Like i transferred from a community college and thankfully am only looking at like 73k ish. For me, i chose WCU because I would rather waste money instead of wasting anymore time. I totally get what u mean by being hesitant about working in a hospital setting. I worked as a CNA in a hospital too and it was so exhausting that I started to get prework anxiety. Even though you have this debt, it's really encouraging to hear how happy you are with your position and how it has given you a lot more financial stability because these are all the things I hope to feel when I finally graduate. btw for anyone who reads this and is worried about student debt, my public health professor told my class that if you can invest 5 years working for the Indian Health Council you can receive a federal grant of up to 100k to help pay off school debt!
I agree! I don’t mind them sharing they have no debt, but when I ask what route did they/take or what did they do to share this info with others, they don’t respond. I’m a lot more financially stable but with this, I have to learn to be financially responsible cause girl.. I got shopping issues and I need to stop! Lol Yes! When I was a CNA, I’d get nervous on which unit I’d be on, how my patients would be. Some days I would wake up and not want to go to work to now waking up, and not second guessing what I’m doing. I still want to do acute care but at the same time I’m still iffy about it because of my experience. Thank you for sharing! There are also loan forgiveness programs where you can work for LA county or any program on the list and they can pay up to 20k of loan debt.
Hi! I am looking forward to WCU too. I have all my pre reqs from Community College. Do you know if its 73k? Like 73k debt after pre reqs? I am really concerned about it.
@@rubineesthapit7516 yes I’m not sure off the top of my head but it’s like 73-75k for my debt. So even though I transferred in with the majority of my prereqs done, I still did 2 terms (1 semester) of preqs. If you have done absolutely every prereq the school ask for, you will still have to do at least 1 term of a prereq before starting the program (fys, capstone, and pathophysiology). You can try to calculate how much you will owe your self. Every year (4 terms/2 semesters) is like 30-32k. I’m spending 2 1/2 years completing program, so that’s my debt. You could end up owing a little less than me if you only spend 1 term on prereqs before the program.
Wait so with ur GE’s and transfer classes you paid 80k at west coast ??? I’m just finishing my last pre reqs for nursing at a JC and I literally don’t want to wait I’m 27 and need to start my life already lol! WCU May very well be in my near future Also, stay strong, haters are everywhere … you’re gonna get a bad side to everything just know that YOU made the decision for YOUR own life and YOU put the thoughts into it, no one else did.. so cudos to you and enjoy your journey as an RN , my friend!

@@drewpadilla8724 I suggest finish in December and applying now to WCU. I’m not sure So you have about 6 months to prepare everything before starting, such as thinking of finances/how to pay for tuition, developing good study habits etc

It is hard to find a job for a new grad program or inpatient hospital position. I’d say the average time from for a hospital position is about 3-5 months. Outpatient jobs such as hospice, home health, surgical clinics, rehabs, nursing facilities are easier to get a job after graduating
Your location listed as Los Angeles, so I am wondering instead of going to WCU can we applied to nursing program with the California State or UC school for nursing? Would it be cheaper?
Hello, I know I am not Krizia. However, as a Westcoast student as well. Yes, you can attempt to go to a Cal State, or UC. It would be cheaper but good luck getting in the programs are so competitive and impacted. The waitlist in California is about 10 years. Hopefully this info helps!

I would encourage you to apply to as many nursing programs!! Aim for all A’s, get high TEAS score, and find experience in the medical field. There are a couple of nursing programs that do point system so it gives you a better chance of getting in. I just got accepted into a nursing program in LA. The cost is only 6k but after fafsa, it will be almost free!! I applied to a total of 6 rn programs. Out of the 6, 4 of them are lottery. 2 of 6 were point systems. I ended up getting alternate for the 2 point systems. Then two days ago I got accepted as an alternate into the program. So all in all, you can do it!
Omg my parents are immigrants from the Philippines too and had no idea how expensive college would be too. Im definitely going to have to get student loans too when I apply for west coast. May I know which company you got your student loans from and if you needed a co-signer?
Two bachelor’s degrees! Loans for my first degree at a UC that wasn’t useful, only making $15/hour then decided to get my second degree in nursing and now making $150k/year after 1 year of graduating

Kaiser pays wells but you work hard for it. The floors are full care in med surg, no cnas but correct you are looking at 50-55 an hour.
I agree! I’ve worked on the med surg floor at Kaiser as a student nurse and sometimes at night I’d be on my own with up to 24 patients.
@s as a CNA at night yes, some nights I was by myself with 24 patients so it required a lot of collaboration with nurses.

Some days I would wake up and not want to go to work to now waking up, and not second guessing what I’m doing. I still want to do acute care but at the same time I’m still iffy about it because of my experience.

Hi! I am looking forward to WCU too. I have all my pre reqs from Community College. Do you know if its 73k? Like 73k debt after pre reqs? I am really concerned about it.
@@rubineesthapit7516 yes I’m not sure off the top of my head but it’s like 73-75k for my debt. So even though I transferred in with the majority of my prereqs done, I still did 2 terms (1 semester) of preqs. If you have done absolutely every prereq the school ask for, you will still have to do at least 1 term of a prereq before starting the program (fys, capstone, and pathophysiology). You can try to calculate how much you will owe your self. Every year (4 terms/2 semesters) is like 30-32k. I’m spending 2 1/2 years completing program, so that’s my debt. You could end up owing a little less than me if you only spend 1 term on prereqs before the program.

@@drewpadilla8724 I suggest finish in December and applying now to WCU. I’m not sure So you have about 6 months to prepare everything before starting, such as thinking of finances/how to pay for tuition, developing good study habits etc

I took my hesi May this year. I had version 1. Ratios, sub and adding fractions, thousands of word problems.
I know there HESI isn't as bad. Just make sure you go over every subject that they have on the exam. I start 11/1/21 as well.

People talk about how hard it is to find a job after graduating, is that true??
It is hard to find a job for a new grad program or inpatient hospital position. I’d say the average time from for a hospital position is about 3-5 months. Outpatient jobs such as hospice, home health, surgical clinics, rehabs, nursing facilities are easier to get a job after graduating
Have you tried nursing temp agencies sometimes you have to start there to get your foot in the door

I know I am not Krizia. However, as a Westcoast student as well. Yes, you can attempt to go to a Cal State, or UC. It would be cheaper but good luck getting in the programs are so competitive and impacted. The waitlist in California is about 10 years. Hopefully this info helps!

I would encourage you to apply to as many nursing programs!! Aim for all A’s, get high TEAS score, and find experience in the medical field. There are a couple of nursing programs that do point system so it gives you a better chance of getting in. I just got accepted into a nursing program in LA. The cost is only 6k but after fafsa, it will be almost free!! I applied to a total of 6 rn programs. Out of the 6, 4 of them are lottery. 2 of 6 were point systems. I ended up getting alternate for the 2 point systems. Then two days ago I got accepted as an alternate into the program. So all in all, you can do it!

Two bachelor’s degrees! Loans for my first degree at a UC that wasn’t useful, only making $15/hour then decided to get my second degree in nursing and now making $150k/year after 1 year of graduating
