They didn’t go into detail about how she managed to cut her hair or cut the defense mage’s robe. But hear me out. I don’t think is that she can cut through anything. Is that she talked to her opponents before hand and made them imagine being cut. For example, when she tells the mage with the impenetrable hair the story about how cloth is cut and how hair is meant to be cut. She places that seed, that destroys the other mages imagination of their uncuttable object. She weakens the other mage’s imagination.
I would like to think of it more about her mentality. Because in the first case of using her powers all she asked the guy before killing him is “are you sure?” She doesn’t cut anything but it is able to cut want she thinks should cut. Hair, clothes, trees, anything that is common. In her common sense is what makes it possible, so magic barriers are uncuttable as that doesn’t make sense.
I thought she just wasn't sane enough to understand that her spell shouldn't work? That might be a better option. Putting in a weakness against Übel into the enemies mind.
The mage w/ the impenetrable "cloak" lost b/c she used a physical attack - which he did not expect. All the students used some sort of magical attack, which was futile b/c the cloak would nullify it. Ubel figured it out and went for his body, which can be cut, but also bypassing the cloak itself.
Ubel was a really well-written borderline-insane character, without basically being a _demon_ in personality. She's probably the most "evil" human we've met in the series, and the story makes it clear that she's not quite right in the head, yet her experiences and interests still set her clearly apart from demonkind. The show does a really good job demonstrating that even the most morally dubious humans have a _humanity_ to them, while demons are truly irredeemable monsters. It's easy to portray a bad person as evil to the core, but it's much harder to portray them with enough nuance that we can tell they're not really a "good guy" _but_ they're still not on equal moral footing as literal monsters.

it still would be interesting to see where those limits are. by that defenition, offensive spells will always be stronger than defensive spells. because no matter how amazing your defensive spell is, if I think my attack is stronger, it will always pierce it. one fact is, that imagination is a big point in spellpower. we even sublitly see it in the fight with kanne+lavine vs richter. kanne was able to block all of richters attacks until he took a moment to explain why he used earth magic: to overpower the defensive structures of other mages. suddenly kannes defenses shattered when hit by richters earth powers. it could be because he used more mana to do it but maybe it also was because kanne wasn't as sure of her defensive powers to block his attacks. now what happens if we have a fight between the unstoppable force vs the immovable object? will the unstoppable force always win because of this imagination or can defence realy become better? would the proctor have survived vs übel, if he enchanted a fullplate armor instead of a cloak? could he have survived with the cloak, if he took übel seriously and put more mana into his defence instead of casualy thinking the cloak will be enough?
@@calronkeltaran493 this is the best part about how magic is explained in Frieren. It's simple but flexible enough to get any outcome you want with an easy explanation. However Kanne knows he is powerful and much more skilled than she is, so when he explains his spells are an effective counter to defensive spells, she hesitates and her concentration falters. When that happens Richter capitalizes on it and that breaks her confidence completely. The unstoppable force vs immovable object by nature is a paradox. Serie knew the minute she stepped into that room that Ubel could solo almost anyone in the world and win, because she understands the fundamental pillars of magic: _concentration, imagination and mental fortitude._ And she instinctively understands it to such a degree that she makes a habit of hard bluffing her opponents to make them doubt themselves and give her the edge. Serie didn't even have to look at her face, just felt the raw aura, said "You pass" and let her go.
Now imagine if she would have the basis of a sword or even something sharper rather then a scissor as her visual example. "You all think too much, all-creation is meant to be cut, Shin-Zantetsuken!"
Btw is not included in this sort, but Ubel herself tells you how she can cut it. She made an example with the mage she killed and then got disqualified. He was wearing a cape with powerful defensive magic and when she was a kid, she saw her sister cut cloth with scissors. From that moment on, she understood how a cape made of cloth CAN be cut because she saw the act of it from her sister cutting it. But as she also mentioned, a defensive spell is quite effective against her magic because she can't imagine how it looks. Since Ubel hasn't seen a spell being cut, her imagination becomes useless. She cannot picture how it looks, sounds, etc. Remember: Your mind can't imagine something that you haven't seen before. But even though the hair was covered with defensive magic, Ubel knows how hair can be cut, and that picture in her mind is more powerful than any magical protection. Since the objective is not the spell but the hair. I hope that helps to clarify that topic.
I think it's interesting how they changed the line from "perhaps I had already lost to her then" to "I lost to her in that office without the question of combat on the horizon" in the dubbed version. Small changes like these are so interesting to me.
I just realised what happened. "That hair must be rather difficult to maintain." "It _is_ difficult to maintain. Thought of cutting it once. Why do you ask?" "Just confirming."
So basically. She can imagine cutting the opponents clothes. Instead of the person themselves. Which is easier to think about which makes her magic that much more stronger.
Magic that works on the casters imagination and only their imagination is both a good limitation and bad limitation. It means the author can write anything they want and for a good writer having a loose magic system like that makes for a fantastic story. For a bad writer though… Good thing the writer is freaking amazing for this show.
so all you need is to raise a psychopath that genuinely believes anything can be defeated and their magic will do so because Frieren's world of magic works on imagination and visualization?

But as she also mentioned, a defensive spell is quite effective against her magic because she can't imagine how it looks. Since Ubel hasn't seen a spell being cut, her imagination becomes useless. She cannot picture how it looks, sounds, etc.
Remember: Your mind can't imagine something that you haven't seen before.
But even though the hair was covered with defensive magic, Ubel knows how hair can be cut, and that picture in her mind is more powerful than any magical protection.
Since the objective is not the spell but the hair.
I hope that helps to clarify that topic.
Anime name
Dont cut it ladies!
Anime name ❤
I think it's interesting how they changed the line from "perhaps I had already lost to her then" to "I lost to her in that office without the question of combat on the horizon" in the dubbed version. Small changes like these are so interesting to me.
Ubel is definitely a smash
I just realised what happened.
"That hair must be rather difficult to maintain."
"It _is_ difficult to maintain. Thought of cutting it once. Why do you ask?"
"Just confirming."
For a bad writer though…
Good thing the writer is freaking amazing for this show.
Ubel is a walking threat
You know we all have massive crushes on Ubel.
Cindy always doing god’s work. I can ignore the pushing to read this book now🎉
She bisected the world to get past that guys impenetrable shield
so all you need is to raise a psychopath that genuinely believes anything can be defeated and their magic will do so because Frieren's world of magic works on imagination and visualization?
Simplesmente uma das melhores cenas de todos os animes.
BEATORIIIICHEEEEEEEE
Ubel is an utter savage.
We have allready lost to her before then 😫😫😫
“If evil, why cute?”
futaba igarashi chan
Perhaps I had already lost to her too) I'm down bad. What a woman! A female Sukuna with style)
Ubel is my waifu
futaba igarashi chan
She must be one of the most interesting and unique characters made in recent years in anime. She could be a heroine, anti-hero, or villain, depending on her needs that day.
So she's just a villain
Exageratted

Ubel be like that sometimes
Ubel's outfit reminds me of Yor's assassin's outfit.

Kent is my favorite cavalier so i really don't get how people say he is bad , in my opinion he is the best cavalier in fe 7 and maybe in 6 too but o have to beat it with fe7 char rom hack to confirm that
*That’s Jiraiya’s Lion Mane.*

Ubel makes my breathing extremelly heavy
The M4 Sherman tank line up is the best tanks of ww2
Ubel unlocked the WAAAGH! field
It's okay, Sense. We all lost to her, too.
They should change the name of the anime to Übel: Beyond Scissors' End...
Übel really said, "It's not that deep"
Sukuna be like: Thats my girl, Good job😂
Well, now I understand the cat meme involving these two 😂😂
Какая прекрасная озвучка
Ubel is using common sense in a magic world.
Where all the other mages see the magic, she only sees the hair.
If she would pair up that spell with a spell to brainwash herself so she thinks she can cut anything off would be too strong of a combo😂
The fact that she wears the same outfit and travels for days without washing in a world without deodorant with her pits exposed like that I bet she'd smell quite strongly.
A spell which can cut anything the user thinks it can cut in the hands of a seamstress will easily cut hair, no matter what type of hair it will be
Ubel was one of my fav characters in the series. I love her interaction with Kraft, exemplifying how terrifying and sadistic she actually is lol.
