  • Summer flight over the valleys and fields surrounding Senghenydd towards the old coal mining waste stacks, then back across the valley to the moorland and antennaes above the A 470. Senghenydd is the town in which the BBC Wales sitcom ' The Tuckers' is filmed.

Thank you. Brings back memories of sixty years ago, walking the hills, tickling trout in the moorland streams and shooting snipe in the bogs. Yes, there were smoky chimneys, dirty rivers but something was lost in the interim. Hwyl Fawr from New Zealand.

When I was 18, I used to go scrambling across those mountains on my Kawasaki, brings back memories (42 years ago) 😮

Do you mean the Comitson farm, next to the Jones farm, beyond the rec...? Then over the mountain avoiding the mine waist tip toward Eglwsylan and Pontypridd... Lol! Just guessing...

The mounds are the coal waste tips from Llanbradach Colliery in the next valley. There are a lot of the colliery buildings still there. It looks like there was some work going on with a bulldozer, probably making the tips safer to avoid landslips?

I have just bought the DJI mini 4 pro. I’m not sure if it could fly as far as the mavic pro. Great flight! As a former resident of Senghenydd it was great to see. Thanks

Would have been cool had you gone from the four terraces down to the Windsor and back as well! Still, can't have everything... Lol!

Fair play you get that drone to stay up for quite a while and seem to travel quite far sometimes - saw Pontypridd tonight - impressive stuff 👍

Lots of ground work by landowners such the construction of tracks, drainage ditches and clearence of vegetation in places has defaced the area and done it no favours since I was last up there a couple of years earlier. I also notice excavations have taken place around the base of the tips. I believe this has been done to construct butts for a planned high power shooting range, which I believe is now in use. With recent concern on tip safety and a report published by the Welsh Government, I'm not sure these sort of excavations are a good idea, or even legal as I suspect the tip in still owned by the former NCB. 🤔
