So interesting to hear her voice early in her career. Like all great singers she continued to refine her voice, her style and her interpretations as the years passed.
I have Dame Vera on a Crown with Jay Wilbur from late 1935, 'The Seargent Major's fast Asleep. Long live Dame Vera Lynn!, the last of the singers from the Golden Age Of British Dance Bands. A lovely song.
After the dance, I waited for one tender glance, That would lead me to ask you if we could be sweethearts again, After the dance, You shattered my dreams of romance, When you just said goodbye and I knew my world was in vain. I cried myself to sleep, A fool, I know, it's real, Somewhere very deep within my heart, There starts an aching I cannot explain. After the dance, I waited for one tender glance, But it wasn't for me and I knew we should not meet again. I cried myself to sleep, A fool, I know, it's real, Somewhere very deep within my heart, There starts an aching I cannot explain. After the dance, I waited for one tender glance, But it wasn't for me and I knew we should not meet again.
I cant believe this song has had so many views increditable. I know these Crown records are rare. Its a lovely song from a very young Vera well worth all the effort of posting together with When The Poppies Bloom Again also on here. Thanks to you all.
My my whats a lot of hits this is having must be her number one cd thanks hope you all like please comment if you wish. I wonder if Dame Vera knows this rare song is on youtube? hope so.
she has such an unbelievable voice, tone quality and technique. So special. For some reason, i can no longer locate her version of Auf Wiederseh'n on UA-cam. ¦-(
1936. Seventy-six years ago. And she is still alive. From any objective viewpoint this is studied singing. Terrible "backing" but Lynn goes up in my estimation with the quiet, careful but heartfelt, almost classical approach. This can rival any continental or American performance of the period. Superb.
I still have a copy. and a couple of her other Crown 9" records.
