I would like to thank whoever is responsible for the Portuguese subtitles. I finally can share your videos with my parents, who dont speak English. Thanks a lot.
There is a beauty in the grey tones of the video reflecting your feeling of defeat. Living at one with nature teaches us so much of ourselves, the adaptation required to be in harmony. It humbles us and whilst it feels like defeat, there is no battle. Shifting our expectation of what we can do that fits in the parameters of the moment. The sound of the trailer in the snow echoed the sound of the cowbells of summer. I wonder if anyone else heard this? It reminded me that the alpine flowers will be in bloom before too long and this is the period of rest before the long hard work days begin again.
Yes, I thought the same. It reminded me of the cow bells. TY Martijn for sharing your journey. It is quite beautiful there and the build is very interesting. A break is a good time to regroup and re-energize.
All that snow looks so serene, quiet and tranquil. Absolutely beautiful. It also looks absolutely terrifying at the same time, in case you are stuck in there. Snow is also a very treacherous beast, so one has to be careful while treading it for sure. Still, a very nice video and I appreciate the hard work that goes into those, especially during winter times. Thank you Martijn. It has been an amazing journey for the last 3+ years (I think), and it will be still amazing for a couple more years to come. Wish you all the best. And a big shout out and thank you to all those volunteers who actually come by and help you out. That is just amazing. Thanks to all of you.
Such a huge amount of snow,…looks like what we got in Canada this winter! Along with -30 C !All those brave enough to camp out in it..and help Martijn 👍 My hat is off to you❣️Martijn, your tenacity and grit to continue is epic and admirable! Thanks for doing all you are, to build…and to entertain us oldies in our warm chairs!✴️🌷🇨🇦
Once the cabin is ready, the volunteers will use the tent. That was the plan from the start. And with Workshare volunteers, they know they are provided with food and basic utilities, the rest are negotiable with the owner. These guys know what the game is.
I am sure when Martijn enters the room in Turin......he kisses the floor and says "thank god ....Civilization i'll never leave you again..." jajajajaja
He's staying in a place called Corso Re Umberto. It's a central Belle époque district with a mix of old and modern buildings, along 50-metres-wide boulevards. There are some nice historical architectures, as well as modern buildings that replaced those bombed during WW2
Yes. Hard to predict the weather yet people think countries should spend trillions on climate change? We as humans are not capable of driving or perfectly predicting and manipulating such complex things.
@@Originalman144 Dude - anthropogenic climate change is a scientific fact. Trillions will be a drop in the bucket to ensure our grandchildren can enjoy life as we've known it until recently.
I don’t see this as a defeat at all but a simple intermission between you and Mother Nature, there has to be a give and take with this type of lifestyle and I see this as the best kind! Loving the winter content as someone who grew up in Idaho!

Your videos are very inspiring and artfully prepared. There's no question that you are a talented individual. I've been following this journey of yours since the beginning and am "totally mesmerized"!! My hat is off to you SIR!!!
What a day and age we live in that such an incredible piece of work can be shared easily across the globe. Martijn, thank you for letting us join you on your journey.
Considering the beauty of the place you are staying in Turin, I would say your "defeat" not only was your self preservation, but a glorious reprieve from the mountain. I would love to see more of Turin... And your mountain will still be there when the weather warms. You are leading a blessed life, Martijn... If I were a little younger, I would volunteer to come and help for awhile...
Incredible! While your gathering supplies please get 1 or 2 extra chairs for your helpers. Makes me uncomfortable watching them have to stand up while others sit.. The mother instinct kicks in .lol. Incredible video..Turin looks like a dream..Thankyou and enjoy..
Thank you for the extreme effort to send up the drone. I’m surprised the drone can operate in those temperatures. The shots are even more spectacular in winter. Naim and Tamas are hard workers.
I also live in mountains (Blue Ridge in NC), and it might help to hear a snow story from here. I think it was in 1960 there was as huge blizzard, 5 or 6 feet in a very short amount of time. The area was declared a disaster area, and the national rescue agencies were flying in helicopters to rescue people cut off from civilization, as the roads had not been passable for at least a week. They saw a little cabin with a wisp of smoke coming out of the chimney and, with some difficulty, landed. They walked through chest deep snow and knocked on the door, sure that whoever was inside was at death's door. A tiny old lady opened it, amazed at the helicopter, but smiling a cheery welcome. They worriedly asked if she was OK, which amazed her even more. She told them she was fine and invited them into a warm room, heated by her wood stove and lit with oil lamps. Then she showed them her larder, stocked full of canned goods, enough to last until spring without going to town. This is a lesson all of us who live here have taken to heart. Everyone who lives here year round always keeps a good week or two of food stored for just this kind of thing. And everyone checks on their neighbors. Is Johannes OK? Without a little warm cabin, it's a good idea to check into a snug room in town until the roads are not so dangerous. No defeat, just good sense. Thanks again for posting this video. Stay warm, Martijn!
As always you leave us wanting more! The enormity of the task before you whilst trying to battle the power of mother nature must be quite mind-blowing. Whilst the scenes that mother nature creates are some of the most stunning it does show us that you are always going to work with her permission. If the lady says no, then work will cease. The serenity that one gets in such silence and beauty shows us just what a small cog the human is within our world. As always we are shown the beauty and the harshness that building in the mountains entails. One is left in ore of the beauty that surrounds you, that you in turn share with us. Thank you for giving us a small window of opportunity to catch a whisper of mother nature as she works her magic❤️

Nature just is. Wether it’s his cold or heat, storm or dryness. It knows no defeat or victory. We have to be humble and follow, instead of trying to lead. Nice pictures again. The snow white scenery is serene and peaceful.
The staggering beauty is truly breath-taking! The work ethic is pretty impressive as well. Digging access holes in the cramped and claustrophobic doghouse, casting cement retaining walls in the dead of winter. Wow! The drone shots are so epic. The beauty of Val Pellice in all seasons is impressive but what winter reveals from on high demands multiple viewings! Epic too are those copper downspouts against the stone walls of the cabin. They totally pull focus! It'll be lovely to watch them age to green. Surely one of the most rewarding UA-cam channels to watch. Thanks so much Martijn!
Wow! For someone like me, born and living in Costa Rica, it is amazing seeing that amount of snow. Really! It is beautiful and at the same time scary. Thank you for the job of putting everything together so we can enjoy. Gracias.

Not sure the temperature your dealing with there or your concrete work flow, but Concrete curing under 10c will leave weak concrete that will crack very quickly. Covering with insulation blankets or somthing to help it cure warmer will make a massive difference
All that snow is making me think about the pre-electricity days where all of that would be a precious resource to fill ice houses and preserve the cold for both food storage and possibly cooling during the summer times.
Yes, I think this could be a great idea, a small bunkhouse on the 'flat' spot you mentioned, where helpers could stay, some more folding stools so people could sit together, basic facilities at least. I know people come to help voluntarily but it must be a bit of a shock that there is nowhere for them to even sit at all, apart from the stone table and benches in dry weather. It could be a fair weather project for a larger group in the better weather. I hope the boy who left on his own in another direction got safely down the mountain to his car? The hotel in Turin looked amazing. It would be nice to have a look around the town? Unless you're back up in the mountains already. I hope the weather warms up a little so you can get back to your home.
Thinking of my trip to the Dolomites in 2019. I lived in a tiny village on 1200 m height for 2 months. When I arrived at end of April - when you come from Bolzano you must drive across a passo of 1800 m height - I was lucky that such a snow came only some days later … with my Fiat 500 I would have had no chance😄 But then week by week it was amazing seeing nature awakening for spring☺️🌷 All the warmth of my heart. Your work and how you film it is so warmhearted and beautiful!
That crispy snow , make me want to dive in it and make a snow Angel . It’s such beauty to my eyes . How ever , I have know idea off your side of things in living in that coldness & heaps of snow . 😊 thank you for your videos . From Dorothy in Australia.
Brrrrrrr! Had to turn my heat up just watching all that cold snow! Kudos to another stunningly beautiful film. Your helpers had a memorable experience to be proud of. What a lovely "culture shock" to retreat to Turin for a few days! Enjoy!
I wouldn't call it a defeat tho. When one is in such an alignment with nature as you are, stuff like this is bound to happen and part of the equation. How nice and humbling and beautiful, even though I totally understand your frustration! :)
@@williamfindspeople4341 The planet isn't getting colder overall, but the extremes are getting more and more pronounced. Hot, cold, winds, floods, droughts, etc. It's only gonna get worse, so get used to it! :p

the scenery in this episode and the last one reminds me one of the best films ever made "The name of the rose" . Here in the middle-east were in a middle of a heat wave, temps are today 32 c. refreshing seeing all this snow
at about 4:40 Martijn looks up into the sky and woefully says... "i've never seen so much snow here". and then i think to myself.... damn Martijn, it's your 1st winter there isn't it?! I jest though, not making fun at anyone's expense, no way, just a little ribbing like me and my friends do to each other. as always, thank you for bringing me into this chapter of your life. i am all the richer for it.
Understood... and thanks for the additonal context from the region. Besides, I wasn't pointing out anything wrong, I've been watching too, and it is his biggest snow so far.
@@_PJW_ But last winter was an anomaly as well, or at least it used to be an anomaly. Just west of his part of the alps we are still extremely dry. It's getting very worrisome thinking about upcoming summer.
Sometimes it helps to put some weight in your car to get better traction in the snow. Especially in a really light car like yours. We often put sandbags in the back of our truck bed (between 4-8 80lb sandbags) to get better bite during mud and winter season here.
That's life living with nature, right there for ya. The overview make me think of my time in the Pare Mountains as a student. Very remote (3 hrs from the nearest village with the 'good car' 4wd) and as a dutchy I had a hard time orientating the mountain valleys. But after half a year I knew pretty well where to look for the ealry morning sun, how to detect any excitement in the area (once a week a car would pass) and where to go to listen for the birds flying into the local forest for the night. Different geo, but the meaning of landscape beyond just distance became very clear to me then. And that's what I get from your lovely overviews of the mountains. You are becoming one with the landscape, even though it just kicked you out, sort of 🙂
Sometimes you just have to listen when nature tells you to take a break. It looks much the same here on the Canadian prairies right now - Nature hasn't gotten the memo yet that it's supposed to be spring. I feel badly for the robins that have started to show back up here. That last drone shot of your mountainside was fascinating. With the snow, you could really see all the small terraces that have been created on the slopes over the years. Enjoy your break!
That final bit of filming as you drove down laid out the danger in driving. Glad to hear you and Tamas made it safely. What a different world in Turin!
The views are beautiful, but Winter is harsh I have not seen that much snow since I lived in far northern Ontario Canada or when I lived in Maine USA. Sometimes mother nature decides for us on what we can accomplish in the moment. You have incredible friends who come to help you out the most valuable thing we have is time and you have wonderful people in your circle who give you theirs and work hard to help you achieve your goal. Well done.
Oh Martian, how blessed you are to see such beauty! Turin is beautiful! Stay warm and enjoy a holiday away from worries for a little while. I am there with you in spirit. God bless.
The trees in Winter are so beautiful! Thank you again for starting the week off with these peaceful, serene vistas. Glad you’re going to have a few days of warmth and rest. See you next week….from Kentucky ❤
I watch these posts amazed. Creative, inventive, determined, industrious, and courageous. Not sure the purpose justifies the unnecessary torture and challenges they go through. Men have this need to test themselves, the dangers, and the elements. Most women know better. Even the locals seem to know better than winter here. Thank you for persevering.
I lived in winter, outside, in Vermont one year with a bunch of friends back in 1969. How beautiful! and your Dolomite? aerie is a fantastic work of art. Time to rest, anyway. too much too much water wood and shoveling. Plus I hiked to milk 63 head in terrain like that. I ache from watching you. You said last week is was going to snow some, so I was pleased you gave us quite a glimpse of the impossible, once again.
Wow, I never noticed the terraced land before, how cool. This is the amounts of snow I envision when I think of the alps! We get a lot of snow in the mountains in Quebec, the hills aren’t as high but accumulates enough snow weight to ruin a car’s suspension if left for an entire winter. You may want a bigger shovel ....
We’ve enjoyed watching your vlogs from the beginning of this adventure. It’ll be a beautiful home once you’ve completed the rebuild/renovation. (PS your little car is an amazing ‘workhorse’. Suzuki should gift you a new model for such great advertising of their brand👋🇦🇺)
Most if our snows in Colorado come in the Spring. The bitter cold is during the winter months, but the moisture coming over the mountains in Spring gives us some heavy snow. Everyone loves Spring skiing.
Hello Martjin, Watching you work in the snow takes me back to my home town of Chicago, Illiniois USA. I've lived through many snow storms, some large enough to stop the city but I always had a warm home to return to. I truly admire your dedication to creating not just a home for yourself, but a way of life, regardless of the weather conditions. And I'm very glad you have friends who can help you along the way; it's a beautiful thing to witness. Having lived in the mountains of California in later years, I am wondering if you see any issues with flooding or slides when the snow melts. Your immediate area seems to be safe, but some of the surrounding areas are craggy. Wishing you safety and as always, thanking you for sharing your life with all of us. I'm sure you know by now how much what you're sharing means to everyone and how much help you're providing to so many. Wishing you blessings and fair weather.
Greetings from Finland. I have watched every video and I really appreciate the project. We have a lot of snow in Finland, 4-6 months a year. I have noticed that you have not prepared for winter very well. There are quite good solutions for moving snow. They clearly make life easier. You also need a better car. For example, a four-wheel drive pick-up with big off-road tires would make it easier to travel. It would also be a good workhorse on buildings. We are waiting for a warm spring.
woof. 15" of snow. gosh, i hate snow, so i would not be happy - it looks pretty, but ugh. snow really shows how level the new roof is compared to the old one.

Enjoy!
Much respect, Martijn, for both your beautiful work and stunning filmmaking. Thank you, sir. Enjoy your break, looking forward to your return.
I wouldn't call it a defeat tho. When one is in such an alignment with nature as you are, stuff like this is bound to happen and part of the equation. How nice and humbling and beautiful, even though I totally understand your frustration! :)
The whole Earth is getting colder. We have snow in Southern California for God's sake.
@@williamfindspeople4341 the overlords' climate control
@@williamfindspeople4341 The planet isn't getting colder overall, but the extremes are getting more and more pronounced. Hot, cold, winds, floods, droughts, etc. It's only gonna get worse, so get used to it! :p
Fantastic friends who tredge thru the snow then sleep in the cold tent just to help out.owe them huge gratitude 😊
This is a stunning view. We look forward to seeing more natural sceneries like this.
OMG MAN, Take care, Spring is under the corner
You’ll never be defeated dear Martijn. Just a battle lost, living and learning.
Thanks again for another soul-warming video!
24.07; heel leuk om te zien hoe gezellig jullie met drie man om een vuurtje heen heerlijk met zijn drieën zitten te lunchen, heel ontspannen, ook voor diegene die net geen stoel heeft.....
Sometimes it makes the most sense to just call it a day. Looks like you got the perfect place to recharge in beautiful Turin!
Go with the flow Martijn. Spring will come, and this will be remembered fondly.
the scenery in this episode and the last one reminds me one of the best films ever made "The name of the rose" .
Here in the middle-east were in a middle of a heat wave, temps are today 32 c. refreshing seeing all this snow
@XimiX I loved that movie. I keep trying to find it. One of Sean Connery's better but lesser known work.
@@TheRasiani so I think you'll find this very interesting,

The shot at 26:40 is great, well done
at about 4:40 Martijn looks up into the sky and woefully says...
I live in Piedmont, just another part of the region. The anomaly was getting little to no snow as seen in the videos before. This is much more like it
Understood... and thanks for the additonal context from the region. Besides, I wasn't pointing out anything wrong, I've been watching too, and it is his biggest snow so far.
It's his 2nd winter actually. See the earlier episodes.
Yes, but in his first winter he left for a couple of months
@@_PJW_ But last winter was an anomaly as well, or at least it used to be an anomaly. Just west of his part of the alps we are still extremely dry. It's getting very worrisome thinking about upcoming summer.
Sometimes it helps to put some weight in your car to get better traction in the snow. Especially in a really light car like yours. We often put sandbags in the back of our truck bed (between 4-8 80lb sandbags) to get better bite during mud and winter season here.
I think its so beautiful all the ppl coming together in this project helping…its a beautiful part of the journey ❤
Glad to see a hungarian guy, who helps you! Greetings from Hungary! :)
Got to give the boys kudos for helping ya. It’s great to see people helping people, need more of that.
Glad you have helpers sometimes and company. This summer please show us the village
You are becoming one with the landscape, even though it just kicked you out, sort of 🙂
Still it looks pretty, snow, mountains and trees. Turin looked gorgeous!
WOW. What a room to wait out the snow 😮🙋🏼♀️👍🏻🇺🇸
Yeah. I wonder which hotel he choosed. Living there I never sampled hotels in Turin
Weather has not defeat you Martijn, I see it as it’s telling you to take a break, eventually mother nature will make it better for you. 👍🙏👏👏👏
Yes Robins and other birds are back, here in the BC interior.
Spring doesnt begin for another fortnight!
Well done.
Its looking alot like Maine or N.Canada, lol. For a minute, or two, anyways.
Cleaning off those solar panels seems satisfied!
Oh Martian, how blessed you are to see such beauty! Turin is beautiful! Stay warm and enjoy a holiday away from worries for a little while. I am there with you in spirit.
God bless.
Martian?..I think he is from the Netherlands, not Mars...🙂🙃😊
Winter wonderland, simply magic
The trees in Winter are so beautiful! Thank you again for starting the week off with these peaceful, serene vistas. Glad you’re going to have a few days of warmth and rest. See you next week….from Kentucky ❤
Not defeated.
Perspective and endeavour.
It's just a time out
I watch these posts amazed.
Italy is so beautiful, Turin looks stunning.
Thanks Martijn for trying. Great photos and drone footage. That Hotel looks amazing, enjoy.
So much snow, so nice! And views for days. Awesome!
It is beautiful, even in the winter.
Pura y dura naturaleza pero a la vez muy hermosa, ánimo pronto llegará el buen tiempo 🌞💃💃
You are a very brave person. Good on you. I am sure, it's a very difficult condition you are in with all this snow.
I always get so excited to see the new video !!!! Thank you for every second posted here xoxo !!!!
Not defeated, this is just one battle.
Most if our snows in Colorado come in the Spring. The bitter cold is during the winter months, but the moisture coming over the mountains in Spring gives us some heavy snow. Everyone loves Spring skiing.
Great experience for the next winter.
We had a 30 cm snowfall a week ago. It took me about 4 hours of shoveling. But there is something satisfying about seeing steady progress.
Hard work.
my heart is with you and comrades. keep warm in town and eat well. all the best
woof. 15" of snow. gosh, i hate snow, so i would not be happy - it looks pretty, but ugh. snow really shows how level the new roof is compared to the old one.
