Great video. Thanks. I prefer to use a "remodel box". Then you can place the sconces and switch wherever you want. Remodel boxes have ears that clamp the sheet rock and you don't have to deal with hammering into a stud.

i would have opened up the drywall a little wider on the horizontal cut to get a drill in to drill holes in the studs to better protect the wire. Using those staples behind the drywall seems a little sketchy to me.

I thought the same thing, but since it will remain open behind the cabinet, there is no danger of someone accidentally nailing into the wire.

Try a string with a couple inches of small heavy chain tied to it drop down the cavity and hook out with a coat hanger size hook wire,we call it a mouse tie cable to string, best and only way to drop down cavities, chain will even find its own way through holes etc, have dropped even 2-3 stories, and when you bounce chain up and down gives good indication of exactly what line you need to hook, put a reverse hook on wire and you can drop mouse many inches to side of hole you are dropping from, hard to explain but makes so easy also good way to measure exact location of nogs or other obstructions in the drop line !,,

So how was the channel cut into the drywall repaired? Just mudding the cut out strip back in, sanding and painting?

Just drop wire straight down the wall where sconces are going. Take off Floor trim and cut hole to retrieve wire. Run along in dry wall behind trim then up through wall to plug outlet power source. Save gashing wall and fixing.

I know that was a common shortcut many years ago but DON'T do that.
It's potentially dangerous (& illegal) to run wires in front of the studs. Wires need to be 1-1/4" from the front of the stud (unless you install a protective steel plate on each stud....... which will interfere with nailing the baseboard). Also, it's not recommended to run wires along the bottom of the wall, even if they're 1-1/4" inside the stud , since wires are likely to get hit by finishing nails in the future.

You glossed over the part where and how you get power from the outlet to the switch.

You skipped putting the wall sconce box in the wall. Did you just use drywall screws with anchors? I was hoping they made one like they do the electrical switches that grabs the back of the drywall for a stronger hold.

How and where is the power source that you're using to hit the switch? All of a sudden you have a brand spanking new romex cable that is the somehow the main source??

Running the romex along the face of the studs like that is so illegal it's not even funny. What are you thinking??

Completely skipped over the part where it would show which wires go to what... This isn't a matter of all back goes to all black / whites to whites. One of those blacks or whites, or one of each branches off to the lights and the other to the switch and another to the plug. The one to the plug would be the constant hot/main, but where to go from there is the question.

You can not use romex in the Chicago Land area. It is 100% illegal.

    Everything about that was sketchy.
    1. Running romex over the top of a stud, and NOT covering it? Seriously?
As others have said you would immediately fail any inspection.
Open the hole wide enough and drill through each stud.
    2. A box with no support whatsoever just hanging there in the edge of the drywall? Really?
They make drywall boxes that have wings that hold it firmly in place for just this reason.
