Thank You. We started on flame about the same time and started teaching about the same time. Enjoyed the video. I’ve always had trouble with getting GoldStone to show up. Sounds like I’m applying way too much heat even though I thought I was “working cool.” Can’t wait to see if working even cooler helps. Very well described and produced. I’d like to see a video on using the stringers and ribbon. Anymore hints would be greatly appreciated!!!
Play around with the heat a little and see if that makes a difference, but the sparkle can definitely get burnt out with too much heat. I will keep stringer and ribbon application in mind for a future video. Thanks for watching
Some time ago I got a smallish length of pre-made goldstone ribbon of glass (a supplier was selling off random bundles partly used supplies after a class they had run). Because I don’t have much of it, I’ve been scared to use it in case I ruin it. I’d be interested to see a video on how you use your goldstone ribbon
I'm sure I could make something like that. Mainly, I preheat the ribbons or rods of goldstone in the kiln and still heat them in the upper portion of the flame a bit to avoid shockiness
Thank you Heather. I was cooking goldstone and your video helped. But I find it is hard to get a stringer without lumps and bumps. Irregular shapes. Can you get larger goldstone on internet? Thanks again.
I purchase slabs of goldstone I tended for lapidary artists and I use a glass cutter and a hammer, to break it down into smaller pieces. I do test for compatibility per batch, just to be safe
I'm guessing you might have lumps and bumps if the goldstone isn't getting heated evenly. So when you are heating it, take it out of the flame before it gets bright orange and burns, but bring it back into the flame a few times to get a darker cherry red. This way you are giving thr heat time to penetrate to the core while not overheating the outer layer. I hope that is helpful

I think I overheat when I'm encasing. Thanks for the reminder!
glad the reminder helps. I thought I might have been harping on about it :)

@@HeatherBehrendt Thank you.
Where do you buy the slabs from? I usually use chunks, but you are right, you get one stringer per chunk. TIA
I dont really have a consistent supplier. I look for any reputable lapidary supplier and I test for compatibility
