Actually, she only spent two years in the lab. The government then banned research on chimpanzees. Then she went to a sanctuary in California called Wildlife waystation. She lived outside, but always had a roof over her head, she never had Open Sky over her head. But it had to close down three years ago, and since sanctuaries were full, it took three years to find homes for all of them. She is one of the last ones to find a home. What is cool about that hug is that it's coming from the dominant male and he is part of her new family. Females can integrate into new families more easily than males, but Integrations can be very hard. This place works very hard at it. And the encouragement she was getting from the Elder chimpanzee to continue exploring was even sweeter. Hugs like that called reassurance, can happen several times a day, depending on what is being served for lunch, LOL! Basically, they offer each other reassurance in the form of hugs and kisses anytime there is excitement, whether it's good or bad

Here in India, double-shift schools are quite common here too. The one i studied in had the 1st shift from 7:30am-12:30pm and then 2nd shift from 1:30-6:30pm.
I have attended both shifts, i loved the 1st shift for the crisp, fresh morning air and having the rest of the day off since classes finished early. But i also loved getting to wake up late in 2nd shift lol and that the sun was calm and pretty when going home in the evening. Miss my school days 💗

Double shifts in schools are very common in New Delhi, India also but in a slightly different way. Here girls go to school in the morning at around 7 am and leave around 12 noon, while boys go to school in the afternoon at around 1 pm and they leave around 6 pm.

The previous Sanctuary had cages outside, and they were big enough to allow her to move, play, and live with a family, but she still had a ceiling over her head. What she is reacting to is the scariness of having opensky over her head for the first time. This Sanctuary offers each troop an island so that they can go outside every day if they choose. They get to choose which foods they want to eat and which ones they discard whereas in labs they only had dry primate child biscuits. Thank you for posting about Vanilla the chimpanzee, Jason. However, she was fortunate to not have to spend 28 years in the laboratory. She was there for one or two years, and then she went to wildlife waystation in Los Angeles. That Sanctuary had to close down three years ago, so it took three years to place the 36 chimpanzees that they had. Sanctuaries across the country are full, so the donations were dispersed among the sanctuaries so that they could expand and give them homes. It took 3 years. She is not seeing the sky for the first time, she is going outside without having any ceiling over her head for the first time. Her cages in California were outside, so she could feel sunshine and breezes and see the sky. She just had a ceiling over her head. Going out without anything between her head and the sky can be scary the first time. In any case, thank you for drawing attention to chimpanzees and sanctuaries, some of whom are there because of petting zoos

The only downside to her arriving at the sanctuary is that it meant leaving the family of chimpanzees that she had back at Wildlife waystation. That was the only family she had ever known, but there were not enough spaces in sanctuaries across the country to accommodate entire groups, since chimps are territorial. I am glad that her new family is welcoming her and encouraging her, and I am sure that this will be her forever home. The people who worked at the wildlife waystation in California cared for the chimpanzees very much. There is a documentary that hulking Phoenix did on behalf of the North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance. It's available here on UA-cam, and it's called "a checkered past.".

In other cases, the news agency gets the information correct, but people just don't differentiate between "sky" and "open sky".
Frankly, I'm happy that he's reporting on a sanctuary, because the "reunion" video that was sent to him a couple of weeks ago on limbani and his former caregivers was bogus, and sent to him as a way of generating visits to and money for that park. The "reunion" was between Limbani the chimp (who lives alone at zwf petting zoo in Miami) and the couple who were paid to raise him, because zwf doesn't have any other chimpanzees and he lived there alone. And they wanted a baby chimpanzee for tourists to take pictures with. That couple visits him more often than every 6 months. I was really disappointed that he did not look into that one carefully.

There's "night school" here too, but it's normally for adults who have to go to their jobs from 9-5 and the curriculum is different, obviously. (There's also after school tutoring for school aged children, but that's fairly uncommon.) My parents were raised in east Asia, and they've never mentioned anything like this either.
