  • Twenty-two year old Michael Betts from Granville, Ohio was suddenly afflicted by a mysterious and severe abdominal condition. Weeks at a local hospital provided no answers, and he was transfered by emergency transport to Cleveland Clinic. He endured excruciating pain until Cleveland Clinic physicians found the answer - vasculitis.
Once diagnosed, he has prescribed the proper vasculitis treatment & medication. He is now living his normal, active life. His family appreciated every aspect of care he received at Cleveland Clinic.

When I stretch I get really itchy I'm the muscles and my blood pressure is really high, 165/93 usually and for the past 3 months. I'm on 3 different blood pressure agents as of 45 days ago and have not seen a lasting drop in blood pressure, first week of medication I went down to about 140/85 for almost a week, and then it went right back up again. I'm wondering if I'm experiencing some form of this disease.

Did you get better? I got sick 10 months ago, and at first they assumed it was a neurological issue(I lost feeling on my skin), but after 2 months the symptoms changed. As of now I can only walk for a minute or so, talking is hard and hurts(it affected my trachea, I literally can't even yell), and I can't do much else than just sit and read. In Finland most doctors were clueless with this disease. I'm meeting a new rheumatologist in a few days though.

I was hospitalized this August, released in 4 days by the hospitalist. Within less than 36 hours I was back in the ER. The Dr in the ER treated me like a drug seeker and gave me nothing for the pain because I am allergic to morphine. Thank God one Dr fought to have me transferred to the University hospital where I was diagnosed with IGA Vasculitis after their Dermatology Department did a biopsy of the vascular spots on my legs. Like you I was given high doses of IV prednisone. I've been told it was caused by an allergic reaction to something I ate and may never know what caused it.

It’s not going to work troll bots.... My immune system is fluffed and hates me! The only thing that gets rid of my hives is suppressing my immune system so it doesn’t destroy my kidneys!

Nice PR video Cleveland Clinic.. I am sure your doctors aren't like that in reality. All gathering around each other looking to solve a patients problem. Looking like they care. The medical system in this country is broken and plain robbery. I wonder how much this family had to pay after insurance?

He went all the way to Cleveland clinic for some prednisone?! Lmbo! What a joke.

GMOgottago EXACTLY my first thought. I’m on Plaquenil and occasional rounds of prednisone, but I still feel like bees are stinging me all over my arms and legs and some days I’m so achy and fatigued I feel like I’ve literally been unplugged. I’ve kinda given up on doctors, although I trusted and sought help from many of them for over 30 years. A biopsy of petechiae on my foot led to the diagnosis of lymphocytic vasculitis. The only treatment I’m offered is biological meds like Enbrel or Rituximab or old-school meds like Cytoxan and Methotrexate. The side effects I’ve read about from these drugs are as bad and often worse for people who end up taking them. Not sure what the best answer is.

Why is it a joke to you when this family who has a young Son had him in the Hospital and he wasn't getting better....some people are diagnosed fairly quickly, and others are not. If one of my Sons or my husband got sick like this man did, and good Doctor's just couldn't find anything....Vasculitis was mentioned and if they chose to go to Cleveland to get more help, and have a Doctor give him the best course of treatment after a definitive diagnosis then good for them. Why would you say this situation is a joke??? Or do you just not care about anyone all the time? You are so rude, and a jerk!!!!

MyEyesBled We get diagnosed with vasculitis through a biopsy taken from the sores that appear on our body and studied by a pathologist, so it is a real thing! It’s just that a lot of people don’t ever find out what actually causes us to get the vasculitis. You should really do some studying on this disease before you judge us and put us down. You have so much to learn!
