Sea Fishing UK - Bass, Gilthead Bream and a few surprises!!

  • Estuary fishing can be great for those days when the weather doesn't allow you out to sea, both from the shore and the boat good fish can be found in shallow water. The rigs and baits I show you can be used from the shore also but work just as well from the boat. This is the culmination of a few sessions finally finding some Gilthead bream. I hope you enjoy the video and will join us for the catch and cook at Spargos kitchen.

    I’ve been watching your videos for about a year now and I really do enjoy them, I love the diversity of species that you catch. I am 15 years old and come from the small island of Malta 🇲🇹 in the Mediterranean. At the moment we’re catching a lot of amberjacks, blue runners and massive dolphin fish or “ Mahi Mahi”. We also get glithead sea bream in fact I caught in 4 pounder last December. Anyways keep up the good work and whenever you come to Malta, then don’t hesitate to go for a fishing trip !

      The french trawlers will get them when they migrate sadly. They would make much more money turning uk fishing into sports fishing only and buy out all the commercial boats. The industry is dead on its feet but the damage it does to the aquatic environment is still immense

    • @MrAcuta73
      @MrAcuta73 3 роки тому +2

      @@Ghhyuttgg We have much the same problem with salmon here on the US West Coast. The commercial fishery is an anachronism and causes more harm than good. Nevermind it isn't even financially viable...the few boats still gillnetting the Columbia River all have jobs to pay the bills. I DO hate to see it die, but its time has come and gone. Some day if/when our fisheries rebound enough to support it, I would be fine with it returning.

    • @oldbloke135
      @oldbloke135 3 роки тому +1

      @@MrAcuta73 It's the same story in all "civilized" countries, big companies sending men out fishing to make the payments on the company's multi-million dollar/euro/pound boats. One boat with all the modern technology can destroy a fishery on its own, then move on to destroy another one somewhere else.

      How far do you typically travel for fishing? Are most of these places semi local for you or are you like some of the American fisherman who are mostly local then take a trip up the coast for a vid? Reason I ask is you have all this great fishing locale nearby at any given time otherwise.

    I am a bit jealous. You have so many species to target. I've never seen a bream before. I am amazed your baits don't get savaged by crabs. We usually fish baits with a float to lift the bait off the bottom to avoid them. One variation is a "fishfinder rig" - hook, leader, swivel, float, weight (attached to the line so it can slide), then a stopper (or another swivel).

    • @TheFishLocker

      I wasn't sure what he was calling them. I thought he was saying bull horse. I am from America and speak English. LOL Actually, I am specifically from Maine and in our accent we frequently drop the Rs from words so I thought he was saying horse. An example saying that we use to make fun of ourselves is "park the car in Harvard yard". Non of the Rs are pronounced but the As are drawn out a little.

    They like crustaceans ! I catch a lot of them in estuaries in Australia ,fish light not too much weight with a king prawn whole hooked through the body ,line looped round the tail
    Probably be expensive bait here tho

      I catch my own prawns but we have so many small bass here that the boats gets smashed up before the break find them.

    Another great really entertaining video, thanks for sharing. So pleased that you didn't blank on the dogfish, no Fish Locker episode would be complete without them! Really looking forward to Jim cooking the bream.

    Love it! That was an excellent Bull-huss at 3:55 . I love his teeth, but I'm glad the perseverance paid off for the bream. I was losing the faith personally, but I'm now inspired to go out there again and I plan to go out in 6 hours to catch the sunrise at Selsey Bill armed with some stinky old dried lugworm (LOL) and some frozen hermit crabs. Wish me luck!! 😀
