Berlin, Hauptbahnhof is a masterpiece of Modern German Engineering it is what Germany Could be... Even though it was my first time in such a big central station, it was incredibly well organized well signed posted and unbelievable easy to navigate. I was surprised I did not get lost. I still cannot believe how they managed to achieve to integrate S-Bahn, U-Bahn Regionalbahn, Fernverkehrs, Nahverkehrs, multiple bus stops, and different tram stations, serving different sides of the station along with a Frelo rental bike stand, E-scooter stand, a complete mega supermarket, multiple five star restaurants, and much much more! This megastructure should be celebrated as an example of a modern engineering Marvel throughout the world!
Nice post and good to see a train popular with the public, for an old timer like myself nearly 8 hours sitting upright on a train would be quite disconcerting, so looks like the overnight sleeper for me, good informative post
My favourite border crossing is Germany to Czechia through Bad Schandau and Děčín. Always stunning views across the Elbe river, especially in the morning when it's sunny. I used to travel often between Berlin and Prague and that section (starting from Dresden) was my favourite.
You crossed the border way before than you showed in the video. After you leave Passau Station you cross Kaiserin-Elisabeth-Brücke after leaving the tunnel. To the left and right are buildings belonging to the university. After crossing the Inn you travel a few 100m and drive underneath a small road bridge. Just a few metres ahead of said bridge is the border crossing followed by a switch in the overhead wire system. The latter is more noticeable when you come from Linz towards Passau
Even if I tend to suffer a bit from motion sickness in these units, I like them in general, a nice design and comfortable to ride with. For the mentioned class 605, I travelled with these twice, back on original "Vogelfluglinie" using the ferry on the way from Hamburg to Kopenhagen. Loved that connection a lot too and now closely follow progress on construction of the new line and the belt tunnel.
Oh, now I'm jealous - would have loved to have done the Vogelfluglinie by train. Have done the ferry crossing a few times with an articulated lorry, but not when there was an ICE on board.
Yeah. Also on a similar note, the line will like with the ICE-TD use a train that is largely the same as one in Deutsche Bahns ICE fleet. In this case the DSB Eurocity trains from Talgo which are nearly identical to the ICE-L, with the biggest change being the lack of a dining car. That wont really be a huge issue on the 2½ hour journey as itll be once the tunnel is open from Copenhagen to Hamburg, but DSB plans to launch 2 very long routes with these trains. Copenhagen to Oslo in 2026 and Copenhagen to Amsterdam in 2027 respectively. So it'll be tough to endure those long journeys without food onboard tbh.
You really should visit the railway museum, it’s fantastic! Also the French railway museum & the Schlumph car museum in Mulhouse ! Not far away . Greetings from Perth Western Australia. Simon
Thank you for this excellent video. I too really like the ICE (T) trains, and early in their careers they used to run from Stuttgart to Zurich and Chur. Today that service is operated by an ICE4, which frankly is not so good !
16:38 I'm surprised the line is rated for 250. Afaik Austria / ÖBB itself does not operate any rolling stock capable of more than 230. Or was it actually done for the ICE1 (and later ICE4) connections into Austria?
Not necessarily but yes. 230km/h is the enforced limit due to the max speed of 1016/1116/1216 pulled/pushed Railjets. Max speed of the ICE-T helps, although slower trainsets also use the faster tracks (Stadler KISS 200 amd ÖBB 4744/4746)
I recently took this train with that interior because my ICE 4 just stopped mid journey due to ....DB reasons....😅 I was surprised by the Interior (cause never seen before) but I found the seat extremely uncomfortable and the noise inside the train really loud. That said I'm happy that 90% of my journeys are on the butter smooth and quiet ICE 4.
9:35 Ugh - Just seeing that Talgo train makes me sick. Who thought that that's an appropriate rolling stock for an ICE? People will hate it, I promise.
Interesting video. I prefer the route Berlin- Vienna via Dresden/ Prague/ Brno. My favourite border crossing is on this route; the Elbe valley, Sächsische Schweiz; Bad Schandau (D) - Děčín (CZ).
Nightjet operated by obb also goes from Berlin to Vienna during the night only but you can do it by DB during the day services only from 8 hours from Germany
What an interesting thing. I'll just say when Czechia hopefully gets going with building its proposed high speed rail system, then it'll definitely be faster to go through Czechia via Prague in the future. Maybe even already since Ceske Drahy already operates Berlin to Vienna Railjet services via Prague.
Is it because there is more High Speed Line between Berlin and Innsbruck routing through Dortmund than there is between Berlin and Wien routing through Nürnberg and it is therefore a more efficient use of resources to have the ICE4 with it's high top speed capability on the line with more High Speed track miles (kms)? Or does the ICE4 also route through Munich after Dortmund on it's way to Innsbruck and therefore DB want to use a more modern product on it's prestige lines? (I'm not knowledgeable enough of DB routings to know if the second suggestion could be correct, btw).
I wonder how long they'll keep the ICE T in service, I'll definitely miss the ICE 1 and 2 once they take that out later this decade. EDIT: right, 2027 starting the phase out, I totally forgot lol
It does tilt in both, not to achieve higher speeds in bends and turns tho, only for passenger comfort. That's due to regulatory issues with the transmission hardware used to tell the train when and how much to tilt
You can fly it in an hour. The flying distance is 25% less than the train distance too so flying also saves energy over the train just in fewer miles traveled.

Omg the snow is gorgeous to watch. Thanks for the video 👍🏻

This is also the shorter route between Berlin and Vienna.

If you're "Against Wokeness",
how you were awake enough to enjoy the early morning scenic crossing of the Elbe every time.

Enjoyed the video as usual. Thank you. Favourite international crossing - St Moritz to Tirano (Switzerland to Italy) on the Rhätische Bahn.

Oh yeah.. ice tea :)
Directly from Berlin into Sachsen-Anhalt. The inhabitants of Brandenburg sigh once again. :)

definitely diloutes the ice branding even more

Berlin to Vienna is also the same by obb railjet because it runs during the day as the ICE Berlin to Vienna runs the same route between the two cities
It's not the same route. The Railjet goes via Dresden, Praha and Brno.

I’ve been wanting to try this route. It seems pretty decent for the price and how long it takes.

Which are absolutely dreadful . . .
Pretty much confuse since the ICE 4 are used for the route (Dortmund ?) Berlin-Innsbruck. Why don’t they use that or the other variants?
Is it because there is more High Speed Line between Berlin and Innsbruck routing through Dortmund than there is between Berlin and Wien routing through Nürnberg and it is therefore a more efficient use of resources to have the ICE4 with it's high top speed capability on the line with more High Speed track miles (kms)?

ICE 1 will probaby stay till the mid-2030s, if not till 2040 actually :)
AFAIK ICE-T are only tilting in Austria.
Pretty sure it is the other way round as Austria never installed the infrastructure necessary for tilting operations.
negative. definitely tilts in germany from experience. the bottles on tables go flying haha
It does tilt in both, not to achieve higher speeds in bends and turns tho, only for passenger comfort. That's due to regulatory issues with the transmission hardware used to tell the train when and how much to tilt
Japanese Chinese can't beat German engineering never

That's not how it works. Furthermore, we use kilometres.
Terrible camera work, stopped watching
Koi muqabla nahi german engineering ka aaj bhi
