I've picked up this set and while it looks pretty good I do have a problem with the 'theme' of it. On the box it states 'French and Indian War 1754-1763'. Well if that's the case, why the hell are there American Infantry depicted on the box and in the diorama? During this period the only regular troops fighting the French would have been British Redcoats (plus of course any civilian/colonist Militia). There were no American 'Bluecoats' until after the start of the American War of Independence (1776-1783). What's happened here is obvious, Italeri has come up with the idea of throwing their existing AWI sets together i.e.American Infantry, French Infantry (who were allied with the Americans) and British Cavalry to make a diorama set but because they had not produced any British Infantry to complement the other sets they 'juggled' the sets about so that you get the French and the Indians vs the British Cavalry and American Infantry in an earlier setting which doesn't make sense. For me the only way around it is is to paint the American infantry as British Redcoats and this is what I'll be doing (and what Italeri should have depicted on the box). The Indians can be used for either side as some were allied with the British and some the French.
Yes good point, I bought loads of Airfix Washingtons army sets and paint some as 'Americans' and some as British, I also grabbed 7 years war Prussians and Austrians and paint them as Brits or yanks too.
That looks great, what a lovely present! I forgot to tell you, apart from the Mahdists warriors my wife got me a video camera. Hopefully now I can make a youtube video, once I learn how to use it! Again, lovely gift!
Love these sets Gary, the Rorkes Drift set is also very fineas is the Desert fort set with Legionares and Arabs, but my favourite has to be El Alamein with tanks, artillery and a neat little railway station, great video mate. ( i believe plastic soldier review called the American infantry some of the ugliest faced troops ever made in plastic) what do you think? All the best.Terry
I agree, I loved the fort with the Arabs on camels and the early Legionaires, we should do a podcast going through every Airfix set and call it grumpy old gits or something, Les Grumpoires? It could run and run. Like the two Ronnies the two grumpys? I'm up for it Terry ;-)

Are these figure sets made of plastic-model plastic (hard styrene)? That is something I've never been able to determine, but if they are that means they will take paint well

Yes and why not put their own British infantry in the set in the first place or perhaps they are aiming at American buyers ;-)

Well my first ones were a bit grainy but the camera I have now is wayyyyy better. Shame about the content. Ha ha.

Probably but i always prime them with Gesso before painting.
