The way how this type-in had another theme other than typewriters seem to make the atmosphere more special and interesting; and it looks like it was a nice day, nice weather. I've never heard of Pyle, but the way he recorded the everyday life of soldiers on the front while risking his own life made me feel a lot of respect for him, and I guess there were many other writers, reporters who went to such lengths in pursuit of facts and stories to tell. If only there were type-ins hosted like this here in Hungary, Dunaújváros I would love to participate in them. Great video, again! Congrats for the nice event! It looks like it was a success!
Ernie's writing really puts you in the war. He was a master of capturing humanity and he always seemed to strike the right balance in his stories. Your quote was a perfect example. Thanks, Joe!
Thank you for having us! I was thrilled that we happen to be in your part of the country right when you were having a type-in. You were so kind to give us a primer on all the typewriters there, and Matthew was great, too. I hope I have an opportunity to come to another, sometime.
Joe, what a wonderful event you arranged! Way to go!

Thanks for a great episode on Ernie Pyle. I grew up in the 1950s & 60s and read several of his writings. I also used a lot of typewriters back in the day. Thanks again...
Joe, another wonderful video that is inspirational, thought provoking, and honors a man and an era sometimes easily forgotten. I love your line about having so many great tools, but needing that thing between our ears to be a good writer. Well said, and I bet there's a video in that line for you as well. Cheers!
"Here is Your War" and "Brave Men" should be required reading in school. "The Soldier's Truth" by D. Chrisinger is a good biography of him and there's a movie called "Story of GI Joe" starring Burgess Meredith as Ernie circa the 1940s... not sure how accurate it is but definitely worth a watch.
I have read Bill Maudin's book, Up Front, highly recommended. I will look for Ernie Pyle's books. I also have a book of poetry written by soldiers on the front lines in Europe during WWII. They were originally published in Stars and Stripes. Some of them are heart wrenching.

It was great meeting you!
this is such an amazing Type-in! The strong connection to the history of the library where it was hosted is magnificent! Wish I could've been there.

Happy 124th Birthday Ernie Pyle
Amazing!
Joe when are you going to write a book? You have so much to say and I’m sure many of us will love to read it.

I just read through the Wikipedia page on Ernie Pyle. Very interesting, I'd never heard of him before.

@@darkspar72thanks for those references.
Also check out Bill Mauldin, cartoonist version of Ernie Pyle.
