Fixing Flats | Chisel Plowing with the John Deere 4640

- We were about done with chisel plowing, when we were about to start for the day we noticed the front tire on the tractor a little low. We took it to Tandem Tire and they found a microfracture or two in the tube. After patching us up, we got on our merry way!

Summer Schedule
Our schedule may vary, but expect a new video every Wednesday. Friday, and Sunday at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a UA-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Ryan: There's literally no room for you Rocket
Rocket: Hold my Bone, I'm going !
I see that the sad dog eye look at 1:45 worked
Real cool production looks like a tractor no tracks and when she pulls it shows black smoke so cool
I just luv the sound of the 4640 cranking up.
Remember Rocket is the manager, he must be everywhere at all times.
the dirt closeups were so good, i felt like washing my hands
You still have the best production of all the farm videos on YT. Nice job.
16 hrs a day, 6 days a week discing hundreds of acres in the spring over 30 years ago....all of us boys.....haven't done since 1998 since daddy passed away...he farmed 36 yes...good times..farming has been long for a long time, just a memory now....NO SUCH THING AS GPS back then and we did just fine...grandpa farmed for over 70 yrs
I went to a John Deere dealer for a part and they had a 4640 I did not realize how big those tractors are .
They're definitely a larger frame than the 4440 I was used to seeing!
@@HowFarmsWork I remember feeling the same way when I saw them sitting side by side at the JD dealer.
It is so cool seeing you two brothers working together. Travis helping you lift that flat tire...good stuff!!!
Perfect length video. When you using the drone, less music of over the video and more of the sounds of the tractor.
Silverware is very good to see ready waiting Jerminacao will certainly be full !!!!
Farner has it so ruff these days, I remember summer following in an open tractor with a spring seat and actually having to drive the tractor LOL
Wow amazing
Talk about a grind... When it's a wet fall and you can't get into the fields after harvest to get the chiseling done, it becomes that much more of a stressor when you have to get it all done in such a short time in the spring. My relatives were never much into doing fall tillage, but their farms are quite a bit farther north than yours (Chippewa and Dunn Counties). I suppose, as long as Travis and you are willing to burn some midnight oil and roll coal, you can get it done. Those long (30+ hour) shifts in the seat must be rough at times.
I never tire of seeing this beauty working. Love that tractor Ryan.
Real nice drone shots
I hope you all have a good year with nothing bad happening to your crops or equipment.
Thanks for the vid Ryan. Take care sir..
Love hearing the 4640 starting up
Ryan, Nice video I enjoy seeing the variety of Deere tractors from different years. I remember my first ones from my youth being the yellow cab "Year-A-Round" cabs. Nice to see Ole Rocket win the argument of who is riding and who isn't.
The 4640 at its best👍👍
Grate video
Thanks for the video Ryan really enjoyed it keep up the good work guys 👍
Ryan I wish you the best of the 2020 season hopefully everything goes well with your farm.
Great job as always
Great video. Awesome nighttime drone shots :)
GREAT camera work as usual 😀👍🏾Night drone footage oh yes - Thanks
Great content, and your music choice is always spot on
Glad you like them!
Nice.
The LED's actually make that tractor a real "work at night" tractor instead of the old "just enough light to get you home with" ones from the factory.
Another great one. Thanks for the content.
Love the drone footage great job Ryan
Very nice video and cool footage. Thanks for sharing!
Rocket is such a good boy. Wanting to go even when there is no room
I love plowing in my yard.
Today we started spreading slurry and incorporated with the field cultivator in just before the rain.
Rocket loves his tractor rides!
That old Deere has a decent lighting package!
Great awesome video Ryan , about time u post some real tillage
Waw good job sir
Our bank sold and new online system. Everything did move over smoothly and had no issues getting set back up.
Your videos are very interesting i watch them all best regards i am a potato grower from a small island in greece
Every thought about more lights on the front? Like on the weights? Some guys around here do that
Here in Indiana they put the fertilizer, weed killer down and plant.
Great vids I’m a dairy and beef farmer
LOL-- Rocket you are not going- No- Not going-- Rocket smiling as he is riding in the tractor down the road lol... Rocket 1 - Ryan 0..... Great Video- Be safe!
Tireject would have fixed that tire and saved lots of time. It really works
Finished chisel plowing today. I put a video up.
Rocket win's again. You have a great partner there.
Banks..... Yes I know and you can't face to face them. Totally enjoy the videos.

This autosteering is a fascinating tech, imho! How do you get all those coordinates, the shapes, contoures, exclusions, and stuff digitized?
We do the field boundaries by mapping them with the gator and putting the unit on there.
I love rocket
Awesome video thanks Ryan
Glad you enjoyed it!
Need to try the LED video light in the dark shots. I'm sure you can find away to mount it. Really like your videos and pet Rocket for me. A fan from E.TENN
I’m a little surprised to hear your doing tillage in c range im used to doing tillage in b1 maybe b2. Are you still running the tractor wide open or at lower rpm?
You gonna have any planting videos
Whatever happened to that mower that was mounted on an arm, looked like it was good for mowing shoulders and embankments?
Hey Ryan!! Hey Rocket!! Can't believe you told Rocket he couldn't go. That look he gave you lol. How many acres you guys farming this year?
Hey Darrin, have a good weekend! We've got somewhere between 600-900 crop acres in this year.
Chisel plows, we use them once every 10 years and when we do, there's a problem.
We use ours every year and seems like every day there's a problem!
@@HowFarmsWork Just how it goes =p
I'm so glad we don't do tillage anymore (we do no-till with terraces and all that hilly nonsense). No-till is easier and we only pull out the cultivator every once in a while. It's worked out well so far (~20 years or so). We're an old operation so I dunno how we''ll work out all the GPS guidance stuff (we're still doing all manual).
Do you have to VT or chain harrow over this or plant directly into what has been chiseled?
@@krusejonathan01 Our little cultivator does it just fine after (we used to have a disc and a cultivator back when, no we have just the cultivator and it does rightly ok). Usually it would need a cultivator ran through it after a chisel plow. But only in the parts where it needed it. We try and keep the ground not needing it. =p
What Auto steer is that with the big monitor?I thought you were using the Ag Junction Wheelman Pro..
We use the Incommand 1200 for RTK on the planter
How many hours on the tractor? Nice video as usual
Why do you do chisel ploughing in the spring? When you could just run the Vertical tillage tool?
looks like the front left most disc/coulter (when you are facing the chisel plow) my have a bad bearing. The disc appears to "wobbling" as you were driving. Be safe.
It is imploding. We were lucky to make it through spring with it as it was 😂
Good stuff Ryan, how do ye find the 4 rib tyre in comparison to the 3 rib :):)
Do you use agtec for your auto steer...use to do gps rover work...going from agtec to trimble was always a challenge
How much horsepower does pulling something like that require?
How fast could you get your fields planted if you had mnmilenial farmers fleet?
In about two days. I wonder how well that equipment could get around in our hills 🤔
🤚👍👍👍👍
I know travis isn't too fond of the chisel plow you currently have. Do you guys have any plans on replacing it and if so with what ?
How much did the agleader set up for this tractor cost you guys and are you happy with it?
If I remember correctly, around 10K. It works pretty good.
One question before planting you disk or just plant?
We'll be following up with a pass from the VT!
Didn't you guys have a unverferth zone builder subsoiler to try out.
Unfortunately we had that for a limited time, and it was too wet to use it last fall.
Awwww, how could you say no to Rocket. I bet he started giving the sad eyes.
Sorry for being curious but why the field is seperated into all these pieces
Excellent video. Like the aspect from the ground level; how is that done?
I use the drone!
How Farms Work You’ll have that drone plowing before we know it.
I must be mistaken but i thought you guys do no till?
Ryan you can't really say no to Rocket with that look rocket have puppy dog eyes
I've heard you say "BT" a couple times, what is that? It's nice to see the dirt from my home state.
Ryan might of said VT, vertical tillage..if I remember right
@@michaelc9128 Thx
is this a replacement for a plow? greeting from Serbia
do you chisel all the ground you have? and why do you do chisel instead of going over the ground with the vt deeper?
Have u guys thought about getting a bigger chisel plow? I may have asked this before. Lol
How big are your chisels and how does the 46 do with them? My grandpa has a 4640 and a 7 shank with a gang of discs that I wanna use this fall when we reseed he never chiseled with it tho.
Brian, why do the passes you make with the chisel plow not touch? Is it a function of turning at the end of the row, just easier and less turning?
What ag leader setup do you run
Hey Justin,
We run the Incommand 1200!
Are you done planting corn and beans?
Why do you guys not use the FWA for chiseling?
The 8235R was on the VT at the time.
I think I would of had some choice words for the guy that chiseled along those waterways so you had to bounce across them and looked like tractor would lose traction also..
Busy doin the intern why was that ever tuned to big slash new rubber laters from Minnesota stay warm
Do you guys put beet juice in your front tractor tires?
I have a question. Why is this field arrangement? Why is it so divided?
Great movie.
Ryan, Didn't your Dad post a photo of the 4640 frt tire with a deer antler stuck in it?
Sorry, it was on the rear of outside dual tractor tire. I looked it back up to verify.

Thank you, have been on receiving end of Travis and YOU having a bad day. So whether it is his channel or yours, minimized comments are safest

So I've been way behind on your videos but how are you and Jamie doing??
We broke up six months ago. You really are behind! Hahaha
Should have used tireject.
Brandon Caldwell that’s for tubeless tires
@@ericrisch9616 itll work in a tube. Ive done it. Im slilled in the art of not doing things as they are not supposed to be.
Should change your channel to the reluctant farmer!
Is the autosteer system John Deere or a 3 party company?
It’s Ag Leader
@@HowFarmsWork ok thanks and amazing videos
I assume that the tire shop put a patch on the inside of the tire as well as the tube? For the type of slice we saw in the tire, Onelonelyfarmer has a good solution. Otherwise, you're doomed for future tire failures.
