Congrats, I have rog phone 3 but don't think I'll upgrade to 5. Snapdragon 888 only has a small improvement in gaming performance and cpu performance also. I think I am going to wait for the rog phone 6

yes it does, functions exactly the same as on the global version
Were you able to change to global version? Do the updates have to be manual or is it already automatic? If it's in manual where or how do i update it?
no didn't bother to convert to global, I don't want to lose OTA and there's really no benefit for me to go global, but I'll look into it and see how you can update

Mostly the difference is with the network bands and of course the language options on the global rom, been using a tencent rog 2 and rog 3 for years and havent faced any issues
hi im from indonesia. i have been use rog 5 tencent for 2 months n actually i very disappointed :( i buy 16/256 version. the keyboard setting always back to default no matter how much u set it, sim 2 didnt work until now, and very slow download on some wifi in indonesia. i wait for asus to fix the bug.

@@EGotTech25 Thanks for the swift reply. I have checked that website but it doesn't have tencent rog 5 listed. Anyhow, I have made a workaround. I have compared the network section specs list in chinese rog website and indian one and figured out the bands are all same. Thanks for helping out bro.

there shouldn't be any issues bro, I've checked the network bands there and most should be supported, my sister's ROG 2 is full working and she is also in the middle east

I bought a global version but got a call before delivery saying they weren't yet available and offered a tencent edition with a discount. I can't find any accurate information on the bands or understand it enough to know :( Any help much appreciated.
if you're in Australia I'd recommend getting the global version and not the tencent edition to make sure you have most of the bands you'd need to get the phone have working calls and data
Can I get OTA updates as usual in tencent version ? What about updates in Global ROM? I have heard certain bank apps do not work owing to less security on global ROM...is it the same for tencent version as well ?
unless your phone is rooted, banking apps will work just fine even on the tencent edition. mine is working correctly. and yes OTA updates get applied automatically

Well I do..but I'm kinda skeptical with the CN version. .haven't tried using any CN versions yet and I'm afraid kabayan bka d cya usable dito sa atin..if usable nga but then bka iba yung performance compare sa global version. .If you could please help enlighten me on this..too many questions in mind.
ahh alright, no issues whatsoever with the CN versions here in Pinas, been using a CN Rog 2 and CN Rog 3 and performance is the same as global
If that's the case then CN version would be the practical choice..but I'm just wondering why lots of people would go for the global version where they would have to spend more bucks into it..maybe there's something "big" with the global that they're willing to pay more. .
@@rotnroll2117 didn't really see any difference to be honest, the CN version even gets faster and more frequent updates than the global, which is why I never regretted choosing CN over global

you probably had a chinese version with global rom installed, that breaks the automatic updates

Tencent is a gaming company and they did a collaboration with the chinese version of the Asus Rog Phone, it’s a legit version though warranty won’t be covered by other Asus branches outside of china

they will all work just fine, tested them all out on my tencent rog5 and no issues whatsoever

only the phone's language can be changed via the language setting option, chinese apps would remain chinese

What are the differences between this tencent version and the global one?
is this version worth buying? there is no risk?
its just mainly the OS, the global version has more language options, theres only English as an alternative on the Tencent version, hardware wise they're pretty much the same, been using Tencent versions since the Rog Phone 2 and never had any issues, also have a Rog 3 tencent version and still working perfectly

What carrier where you using I had a rog 5 global and couldn't get signal so was curious here in the USA
majority of the network bands in the USA isn't supported by the ROG 5 global version, so your signal will be spotty in some areas. that's one of the drawbacks of getting this powerful phone

I like the tencent version more, you get more frequent updates and you get them longer over the global version, it's also a lot cheaper than the global version

the global version will have more network band support and will of course ship with the Global rom, so more language support as well, other than those two key things, they are almost identical

no you have to install it from the app market on the phone and that's it

well it's basically what your phone uses to connect to your mobile carriers, if for example your provider only uses band 28 and the phone doesn't have support for it then you basically will have no signal to make calls or have mobile data, your phone becomes a wifi only device 😁

don't really see any downsides to getting the tencent version, 5G is working here in the Philippines, and play store just needs to be installed from the Asus app store, all play services are already preinstalled, I have the Rog 3 tencent as well and 5G fully working in areas that have 5G
an added benefit is that you get updates a lot faster compared to the global version

Not much of a difference, suggest getting the tencent version with the CN rom, that way you retain OTA, all the network bands are supported by the tencent version here in the philippines and 5G is fully working as well. no disadvantage at all

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between the tencent edition and normal edition?
the difference is mainly in the network bands, the global version comes with support for majority of the network bands around the world, but still dependent on where in the world you are. the Tencent version comes with support for mainly China specific network bands, but lucky for me, all those bands are also used here where I am. also of course the software is different in that the china version only has 3 lanugages to choose from with english being one of them. also there is some chinese bloatware but those can be removed easily

I wanted to jump ship from oneplus 7 pro to rog 5s (888+) but i encountered review in YT that says his screen died always in 6 mos from purchase and this happened since rog phone 3. Can you share hardware issues you encountered with Asus? TIA
Not sure if I’m just lucky but none of the ROG phones I’ve bought had any hardware issues, both my Rog 2 and 3 are both still alive and performing great

You have to position it a bit lower, but still can cool better than the aeroactive cooler

honestly 8gb is more than enough to run any of the latest games out now, there shouldn't be a big difference between 8 and 12, for storage though get the 256gb, it's the sweet spot now since you can't add storage via a microsd card

not really much of a difference, except the language support and some network bands, which part of the world are you in bro?
@@EGotTech25 I live in the UK. I can pick up the 12gb version tomorrow. Nit going to use it as a normal phone just purely games like diablo immortal and wild rift. Wasn't sure if the Chinese version would affect that. Also a streamer so a high end phone is important. It's the 12gb model also so hoping it won't be much different to the global version ?
@@GodriKtv ah alright then the Chinese version would be just fine for you, since it's not going to be used as a primary device, invest in the fun cooler pro 2 and the official protective case that has the cooling pad that I reviewed on the channel, it will help keep temps down and your fingers cool, you can also follow my play store install guide in case you have issues running play store out of the box

yep hardware wise it will be the same bro, and you get more frequent updates on the China version as well
is the only difference between tencent version and global verion that the tencent has the chinese rom? I'm looking at an Ultimate that is supposedly a tencent version with global ROM and it does include the aero cooler so I'm wondering if i'm going to have any issues or if there is a performance difference or something. I know the tencent version is cheaper, so I'm wondering why
the only problem with a tencent edition thats converted to global is that you lose OTA and you need to manually download the firmware in order to update. performance wise, they're identical
@@EGotTech25 so I won't get Asus updates, or Android? Or both? And when you say manually, you just mean go into settings and hit check for updates, or like I'll have to go to their site and download it and then extract it and all that jazz?
asus provides the android updates, Android provides the firmware to Asus, and yes by manual I mean, you have to download the firmware manually from the website and increases the risk of bricking your phone
@@EGotTech25 Well crap. Oh well. The normal global ultimate edition is at least 2 grand anywhere i've looked. Usually more, and you've gotta pay sales tax. This was $1400 and no tax, so I guess I'll just go without updates. Thanks for all the ino!

if bibili ka kina Xundd tumutulong sila sa pagpagawa ng unit if ever magkaproblema, sa kanila ko kumuha ng tencent rog2, rog 3 at rog 5 pati mga redmagic ko and so far no issues kahit isa sa mga nabili ko sa kanila

nope none at all performance wise, hardware wise the one difference would be the network band support

I think the reports of ROG phones randomly dying is exaggerated, I've had the ROG 2 / ROG 3 and now the ROG 5, all of which are Tencent Versions and never had any problems, those phones are still alive and kicking up to this day
Any down sides for the chibese version. Google app or chinese words randomly located ?
google app is easy to install, didn't really notice any chinese words in random places, unless of course you open the chinese preinstalled apps, which you can also uninstall 😀

just look at the back of your phone, if it says tencent games then it's a china version, if it says republic of gamers then it's a global version

network band should be supported, for tencent edition with global rom, you need to go to the Asus website and download the firmware manually, place it on the phone's root folder and do a local update

Is there a tutorial on how to do the update by you? Because idk what a root folder is or what local update is, and i heard if the tencent edition becomes global rom the bootloader or something like that will have an issue, do you know what that is or what it means? Dude i have bought rog5 tencent version and the seller said its global rom.. btw i cant ota . So did the seller changed my china rom phone to global rom so thats why i lost ota ?
Yeah you lost OTA because there is no way right now to convert to global and still retain OTA, you have to download the ota updates manually and put it in your root folder, but check with the seller first if you can do that, if fingeprint hasnt been changed to WW then manual updates will brick your phone

OTA updates will be there regardless of where you use the phone bro, I think the Rog 3 should have most of the same bands as the Rog 5 as the difference is more on the chipset and performance
