I harvested my first floor and now that the weather is warming up there are tons of weeds germinating in it. Tons
Obviously your forest is different from most I've seen which do not have much low growth due to the shade of the trees. Here's what I would do. Cultivate weekly until the seeds in the bed have all sprouted and then the problem should end. I use a shuffle hoe but any cultivating tool should work. I seldom "weed" in my in-ground garden but I do cultivate often. Its fast, easy and effective. All I deal with is what blows in. Seeds germinate once. If you kill them young, ithey are gone forever. Never let any weeds grow up and produce seed. Eradicate them early in the game and you'll be a winner. I'm sorry for your weeds but this doesn't have to ruin your grow beds. I hope it goes well for you.
@@LeslieCaza thanks for the advice I learn so much from you. Today I replicated the sweet potato bed that you did. I'm going to set my slips in water and plant them out. We eat a lot of sweet potato and it's getting expensive . My first try only produced vines so I'm really hoping this works. I've been sharing your videos with others because I think what you accomplish is amazing. Five stars ..keep up the good work and thanks for the education.
It's August 13th 2024 I just want you to know that I just found your videos today and I've watched two and I have learned so much about gardening I thank you so much. I'm also plant based❤ and a Christian. 😊
Thanks for sharing this was so full of information for a newbie gardener. Do you have to add to this each year or any additional things to the soil to fill with nutrients?
I live in Allensville, KY heard you mention Elkton is where you got some of your supplies. Glad to know I can get from my local Amish and hardware stores most of what I need if not all. God bless you and your husband for taking your time and making videos like this for us. I love you give God praise also for his blessings ❤
Thank you! It truly is just sharing the good gifts of the Lord.
Each year add compost to the beds. I like to add a mixture of composts. My favorites being mushroom compost and worm castings. If you can get a natural complete organic compost blend (like Revita Pro which i buy from Deerfield Supplies in Elkton KY) that is compost based (Revita pro is composted chicken manure based) that also makes a nice addition to the compost blend. Then add about 1-2 cups or one garden trowel full to each square before replanting in it.
You are wise to take up gardening! The benefits are far above just getting a harvest. Start small and learn, expand a little each season, and enjoy the journey. You were created to live in the garden!
Thank you so much for this video. It has helped me so much, is that pice of plastic running under the landscaping fabric? And did you put your wire inside also? My yard has a lot of Moles and chipmunks
No there's no plastic running under the landscape fabric but there is a little bit lining the edge of the cinder block. I have added a quarter inch wire mesh fencing underneath my beds and it has helped tremendously with the vole problem.
@@LeslieCaza ok thanks again 💚
Hi, nice to meet you 😂 can you tell me what the plastic is for in the cylinder block raised bed please thank you, nice video
I just wanted to line the cinder block so that if there was any disagreeable ingredients in it it would not reach into my soil. I don't think that's an issue today though.
Where to find such large bag of vermiculite?
Pikes Nursery, if they have them in stock. That's where I got mine from.
Will all vegetables grow this well in this mix?
Everything I've grown and it does very well.
